Title: FML
Post by: kinboshi on December 31, 2008, 08:27:08 PM
People might have things bad, but they're nothing compared to what's happened to me today.

It's New Year's Eve, and the dishwasher has packed up.  We've had to resort to washing up by hand.

FML.

Sod the January sales.  Did some research online, and then ordered one today.  Will be with us by the 4th Jan.  Which isn't bad, but what the hell are we meant to do until then?  Wash up by hand?

I was thinking restaurants FTW.

What do I do about my hands.  The hot water has played havoc with them.  Can they be repaired?

let it pile up, research shows that dishwashers work best when full - what better way to find out?

Dish washers ... biggest fkin waste of money ever ... you still have to rinse plates and load the dishwasher, put your tablets and salt in ... then 2 hours later you have to unload it.

Get some rubber gloves if you are worried about you hands ya big poof.

get some rubber gloves and apply hand cream liberally before putting them on.  The hot water will help the moisturiser absorb and when you've finished washing up you'll have hands like a baby's bum :)up

You don't bloody rinse before loading!  That's like having a dog and wagging its tail.  In fact, dishwashers work better if you don't rinse.

I'm with Kev on this one...

F dishwashers. Ours broke a while ago and we haven't replaced it. Collosal waste of money and time and they don't work properly anyways..so feck em.#

I do all the dishes in our house, don't mind doing them and it's a hell of a lot cheaper to do them yourself..and it's less effort than having a dishwasher.

Dishwashers don't work properly?  They do if you don't buy a cheap Matsui one.  As a German you should know better.

There's always crap left in the bloody thing!..Dishwashers are disgusting and they smell!

Why spend £500+ on a decent dishwasher when you can do them yourself? There's only me and MrsB in this house (though she does create an awful mess...something about "The stress of having to put up with me") doing the dishes takes about 5 or ten minutes and the job gets done properly that way.

Seriously, it's like using a bloody microwave for cooking, it's disgusting!

You don't need to spend £500+ to get a decent one.

Dishwashers clean the dishes better than you can by hand.  You don't have to dry them with a bacteria-ridden tea-towel either.

No they don't..I've yet to see any proof of that...in fact I regularly see cups that aren't clean or a bit of crap left on plates in the dishwasher after it's been used (we have one at work) so don't see how the dishwasher does a better job really.....and you could use a clean towel..or not dry them at all.

Dishwashers are evil.

You must have crap dishwashers up there, that's all I can say.  Dishwashers heat the water to over 63 degrees, and that's a lot hotter than the water you'll use to wash dishes by hand.  63 degrees is a very important temperature.

You don't wash your clothes by hand in the sink any more, why wash dishes this way?

pffffffffffffft, why is 63 degrees an important temperature? I don't wash clothes by hand as it quite clearly doesn't work as well as using a washing machine.

I have yet to see any evidence that a dish washer is a better way of doing the dishes than doing them by hand. Add to that that; It's more expensive, it uses more energy and probably more water, so it's not environmentally friendly.

I just think dishwashers are OK for restaurants and maybe big families (but I don't have kids so what do I know about that?) but for couples or single people it's just because they are lazy and can't eb arsed doing the dishes...and about nothing else.

Boldie is spot on with this when there is just 2 of you it makes sense to wash by hand,

but then jeeves has been his dishwasher.

Some people I know BUY dish washers just to get out of doing the washing up !!!

TBH we have a strict routine in this house

Mon - Sat .. Jane cooks, I eat it, kids take turns to do the dishwasher

SUNDAY.. Jane cooks, I eat it, and as Sundays are my day for dishwasher, I flick a £1 coin at one of the kids to do it for me :)

Not now they don't. We still had the 'rinse and fill' argument but that soon ended when I changed the chore to different days instead. So now Jen does it all on her own one day, Ashley the next, no bickering... for 10 minutes.

It is impossible to get dishes as clean by hand as in a dishwasher - its just you cant see the bits that washing by hand leave behind. That plus its just time efficient to use a dishwasher.
