Title: Whats My fkin Job Title?? Post by: Amatay on February 03, 2009, 02:08:28 PM A year ago i used to teach Sport & Exercises Sciences in further education lol. For the last 12 months i have been a poker bum . This month i have to insure my motor and i recieved a redc quote of £980 from my current policy. This is partly because i have pranged the bastard thing twice in the last two years and had to claim, sigh. However, i thought i could get it cheaper so i checked out www.gocompare.com. When it came to employment details i didnt know what to put so i put unemployed and was quoted at £2k+ fml!! So, i changed it to teacher, education and got a quote for £558. Question is whats my fkin job title because i cant bullshiz can or it will my affect my policy???? Or can i??? :-) Help

Title: Re: Whats My fkin Job Title?? Post by: kukushkin88 on February 03, 2009, 02:33:44 PM lol breakfast chef. That would be lying if the signature pic is anything to go by, retired is just correct though. Obviously you can come out of retirement at any time but as far as the tax man and the state are concerned you are at the moment, retired.
Title: Re: Whats My fkin Job Title?? Post by: Amatay on February 03, 2009, 02:36:22 PM So retired it is then, are you fish sure??? I was gonna put self -employed but it asks for self-employed as what and sadly 'professioal' poker bum, blogger or redtuber were not on the list

Title: Re: Whats My fkin Job Title?? Post by: Moskvich on February 03, 2009, 03:32:26 PM One of the comparison sites has an 'independent means' option - any good? Seems like you'd be able to make a good case for this being true.
On a related note - if you were to have a claim turned down because your details weren't accurate, is there any danger that you'd be guilty of driving uninsured..? Presumably whether or not you're insured doesn't depend solely on the interpretations of the insurance company, but who does determine whether your insurance is sufficiently legitimate? Title: Re: Whats My fkin Job Title?? Post by: TheChipPrince on February 03, 2009, 03:33:47 PM if you won the lottery, what would you put then? Retired I guess, so surely the same...
Title: Re: Whats My fkin Job Title?? Post by: EvilPie on February 03, 2009, 03:41:31 PM if you won the lottery, what would you put then? Retired I guess, so surely the same... Much easier to justify though. You could stand up in any court against your insurance company and the Judge would happily agree that you are indeed retired. The poker player is a bit more of a grey area and down to interpretation so you run the risk of somebody not agreeing that you are in fact retired. Title: Re: Whats My fkin Job Title?? Post by: kukushkin88 on February 03, 2009, 03:42:22 PM Yep i'm still with retired, the fact that an insurance company in scotland tried to defraud some customers once doesn't really change your situation.

Title: Re: Whats My fkin Job Title?? Post by: kinboshi on February 03, 2009, 03:47:00 PM Investor? Risk Assessor?
I'm sure we've done this before. We also didn't come to a definitive conclusion on what a 'professional poker player' is. As Nick said, Moorman is obviously a pro, but where is the line where someone becomes a recreational player? Is it based on a percentage of income? Time spent playing? Title: Re: Whats My fkin Job Title?? Post by: lucky_scrote on February 03, 2009, 06:20:26 PM I've found this a tough one. At first, I used to just think "retired" but being 21 and claiming to be retired sets off alarm bells. With peoples insurance becoming invalid using retired as their occupation then I have just resorted to being unemployed.
I could probably get away with it, with there being a very famous rugby player named Dan Carter also... Title: Re: Whats My fkin Job Title?? Title: Re: Whats My fkin Job Title?? Post by: ScottMGee on February 03, 2009, 07:19:03 PM I can fully see the insurance company's perspective - professional poker player probably means travelling up and down the country at all hours leaving your car unattended in some dodgy car park whilst carry larges amounts of cash. This all adds up to a lot more risk than an old retired geezer driving to his allotment on a sunday morning.
If you misrepresent your occupation then you are just asking for trouble, imagine you are a well know who gets his brand new M5 nicked from the Casino car park 200 miles from home. I would be certain that the insurance company ask more than the odd question and decline your claim. Title: Re: Whats My fkin Job Title?? Post by: seven2unsuited on February 03, 2009, 07:23:43 PM ye prolly only time ur insurance company was ask more questions is if you have a theft claim

Or you spend all your time playing online, don't do as many miles in your car (as you don't have to commute). When you do play live, the car is parked in a secure car park with CCTV and security. If it was parked at a church and stolen - would that make me a priest? Title: Re: Whats My fkin Job Title?? Post by: GlasgowBandit on February 03, 2009, 10:16:06 PM I would think an online pro would be different from a circuit pro. If your main crust comes from playing 12 tables at a time from home your not using the car in connection with your occupation. Its a bit of a grey area, I would think the best course of action would be to speak with insurers direct and explain the situation.

Post by: relaedgc on February 05, 2009, 03:41:03 AM Can't you just phone a different insurance company and ask them "Which option shall I select as a poker player?"
Get your answer, then go back to the insurance company you actually want to use and use the one you were advised to use. Title: Re: Whats My fkin Job Title?? That way if they dispute it at a later date you can easily find the proof that's what they said. Title: Re: Whats My fkin Job Title?? Post by: julian on February 05, 2009, 12:05:11 PM it might have been colclough who nudged me a year or so back that i should check that my insurance was still valid, i'd been a draughtsman for years but after i made the switch to poker pro it never crossed my mind to inform churchill or whoever it was.
i got in touch & they cancelled my car & house insurance immediately, citing me as high risk, yeah right. luckily direct line took our money & it wasn't alot more than we had been paying.
