One of the comparison sites has an 'independent means' option - any good? Seems like you'd be able to make a good case for this being true.
On a related note - if you were to have a claim turned down because your details weren't accurate, is there any danger that you'd be guilty of driving uninsured..? Presumably whether or not you're insured doesn't depend solely on the interpretations of the insurance company, but who does determine whether your insurance is sufficiently legitimate?

Much easier to justify though. You could stand up in any court against your insurance company and the Judge would happily agree that you are indeed retired. The poker player is a bit more of a grey area and down to interpretation so you run the risk of somebody not agreeing that you are in fact retired.

Yep i'm still with retired, the fact that an insurance company in scotland tried to defraud some customers once doesn't really change your situation.

Investor? Risk Assessor?
I'm sure we've done this before. We also didn't come to a definitive conclusion on what a 'professional poker player' is. As Nick said, Moorman is obviously a pro, but where is the line where someone becomes a recreational player?
Is it based on a percentage of income? Time spent playing?

I've found this a tough one. At first, I used to just think "retired" but being 21 and claiming to be retired sets off alarm bells. With peoples insurance becoming invalid using retired as their occupation then I have just resorted to being unemployed.
I could probably get away with it, with there being a very famous rugby player named Dan Carter also...
