It'll be interesting to see if he waves to the United fans at the final whistle.

You can lay 1.88 now

Title: Re: warnock job
Post by: Karabiner on November 26, 2005, 06:46:30 PM
The price is beginning to collapse now, you can lay 1.67.

I may be tempted to save a bit soon.

I'm leaving it open.  Have 2.38, 2.36, 2.34 and 2.32

Your account has been frozen, pending an inquiry by the fashion police headed by Robert HM.
All dodgy ' jumpers ' are being looked into.
If the outcome is positive I will add 10% to your account ok

Cochester Kiv, you have been investigated and been found to be a blatant poker whore.

(let's split it Jim)

This is such a strange market it's been laid @ 1.6 and it's back out to 2.58 recently and now 2.24.

I'm confused ???

Title: Re: warnock job
Post by: bookiebasher on November 26, 2005, 09:35:35 PM
Kev will get jealous if we do some splitting without him, but hey, now I know he's a whore who cares !!
Is a strange market Ralph but going to have faith with my source. Might change my mind if I hear he is not talking to his missus.

Warnock statement today is that he will be in charge for the local derby with Sheff wed next week, I have laid my bet now if he goes I have a profit of £60  he stays I'm EV

Title: Re: warnock job
Post by: Karabiner on November 27, 2005, 04:11:58 PM
Interestingly, as well as the Sheffield derby, Porstsmouth are away to Man U next Saturday.

Another good reason to wait until afterwards for Mr. Warnock ?

Title: Re: warnock job
Post by: redsimon on November 27, 2005, 04:30:56 PM
Price has been yo-yoing more than my chips do in a tourny, so I've layed off for a small profit.

Title: Re: warnock job
Post by: Karabiner on November 27, 2005, 06:12:31 PM
I've saved my stake @ 1.48, so if Warnock gets the job I win £85 or break even if he doesn't.

Someone just put £2000 on Warnock @ 1.5 (1/2)  but I couldn't resist the freebie  :D

Title: Re: warnock job
Post by: MrMoves on November 27, 2005, 06:28:12 PM
I'm out for a nice profit.  I've no doubt he will join.  I wanted to the cash for a Rooney to score/Utd to win bet.

I'm not sure if you have inside info. Ironside, but since you said that you fancied Redknapp,

his price has dropped from 10/1 to 100/30 !!

Warnock is back out to 11/10

This market continues to fluctuate wildly.

Title: Re: warnock job
Post by: Ironside on November 28, 2005, 01:05:06 AM
my source tells me that redknapp will be named at miday on tuesday and the conspiracy theorist that redknapp went to southampton to take them down and thus making his prestige with the pompey fans even greater

Title: Re: warnock job

I'm born and bred Portsmouth buddy!!! There's blue blood in these here veins. If you meet a Pompey fan, at least you know they're proper footy fans and most definitely NOT glory hunters.

I think Redknapp has a snowball's chance in hell at getting back into PFC with Milan "The Ego" Mandaric still in charge. Add to that every single Pompey fan labelling him Judas Redknapp due to the fact he said "I'd never ever go "down the road"" and where'd he go?? He's not flavour of the month right now. Still though.... would just be another chapter in the saga.

Safe money's on Robson or Warnock in my opinion... though I wonder what it would take to prise him away from his beloved Blades??? He's gone so close with them many a time, and they're looking good this season so far!!!! Why the hell would he come to us????

Wouldn't mind him coming to us though to be honest!

Title: Re: warnock job

I would lay Warnock all day long now.

I do not think he will take the position

Well there's plenty of 8/11 to lay on Betfair.

speaking of real portsmouth fans - 3 seasons ago i went to portsmouth vs grimsby (in the league) as i was staying with a mate who lived in petersfield and we got tickets.  We were drinking with all the pompey fans in this real dodgy boozer when we said to one of them "hey, - do you know that fella with all the tattoos who rings the bell at every game?" - i think his name is actually John portsmouth FC - he got it changed by deed poll. - The 2 lads we were drinking with said they knew him well and he should be here any minute.  Right on queue, he comes through the door of this pub with another bloke and we get introduced - looks a real psycho but is a genuinely nice fella - he owns a tattoo parlour in petersfield and he became my mate instantly because he had atended every ground in england apart from the one i have visited the most - field mill, home of the stags! -

portsmouth fans are great - especially him - proper hardcore!

Title: Re: warnock job

Yeah Junior!!!!

His name is actually John "Portsmouth Football Club" Westwood. He's an absolute legend!!! Had the fortune/misfortune of sitting next to him at both Forest away and many a time at Fratton Park!!! He just never shuts up!! He would scare children just to look at but believe me he is a top bloke and a gentle giant. His passion for his club just takes him over. He can't play the bugel for toffee tho. Same with the bell actually. He lives a bit of a double life as his day job is an antique book salesman. He owns his own shop in Petersfield :-)

Didn't know so many people were interested in our little club and it's next manager. Should be interesting!

See you in the card room.

Your account is still under investigation by Robert HM and as you know, solicitors take their time.
Reckon you ought to back TK for the £200 freezeout at notts. on sunday if he is playing.

yeah my source is the portsmouth chairman beingin interviewed on skysportsnews saying they have asked to speak to mcliesh as rangers want rid of alex without paying £1mill that would cost them to sack him

its odds on alex's for the job now as portsmouth will get him without paying compensation rangers can get rid without paying a dime
warnock will prove to be too expensive as he doesnt have a get out clause in his contract

Morning Guys.

As you know I have been against warnock since the betting opened.

I have some decent info on the portsmouth manager.

My missus's uncle was the cambridge manager a few seasons ago )just before the frence took over) and he is currently training the youth at norwich. He got told last night that Warnock wioll be in by Thursday, and def. before the weekend match. Thery want him in before the Sheffield derby at the weekend.

I have said all along I personally didn't think it was a good bet, but I am thinking otherwise now.

IMO the Sheffield derby is a bit of a smokescreen, but he''ll probably take over this Monday.

Strange things happening today

wotsis name says Warnock and McLeish are the targets but says nice things about Rednap

SUFC give permision to approach NW but Rangers say no to approach

A little while ago Betfair suspended betting and when it starts again AM is 20! but eases to 13.5 and NW goes out a bit to 2.1, meanwhile Rednap's price is shortening, wtf is happening?

This market is increrdibly volatile.

I've just gone in again for Warnock @ 2.1, but Redknapp is now very short indeed @ 3.5ish.

I've already backed W @ 2.4, Laid him @ 1.48, Bet him again @ 2.3  etc.

All very confusing, but one must keep faith with one's sources and ignore the hype..........

Title: Re: warnock job
Post by: Ironside on November 29, 2005, 09:36:45 PM
warnock gets it i make £1.45 redkapp £6.06 mcliesh £22.96

anyone else £0.76

Title: Re: warnock job
Post by: Graham C on November 29, 2005, 09:51:07 PM
man this is confusing me.

If Ive had £2.50 laying warnock at 1.88, what odds and what would i need to put on to make a profit no matter?

I dont really get the trading off system of betting

Ive also £2 on McLiesh at 11.00

Title: Re: warnock job
Post by: Ironside on November 29, 2005, 09:55:38 PM
have you got warnock and mcliesh to get job at that price or against them getting the job?

Title: Re: warnock job
Post by: Graham C on November 29, 2005, 09:58:46 PM
Ive  got McLeish to get the job at 11 and Warnock not to get it at 1.88 - is that what you mean? Seperate bets

Title: Re: warnock job
Post by: Ironside on November 29, 2005, 10:01:51 PM
ok warnock back at any price over 1.89 to get the job for £2.50 would mean that if he gets it you win pennys
if he doesnt get it you break even

for mcliesh you would need to wait for the price to plummit beofre you can lay it off

Title: Re: warnock job

lovely thanks :)

Title: Re: warnock job
Post by: Graham C on November 29, 2005, 10:06:45 PM
actually ive cocked it up already!  there was only 2 at 2.02 and I cancelled the extra 50p.

not big bucks but im covered either way i guess.  In fact, it was kinda pointless betting on either now - I will learn!

Come on McLeish :D

Title: Re: warnock job
Post by: Ironside on November 29, 2005, 10:09:32 PM
now i am cooking

warnock £3.45
rednkapp £8.06
mcliesh £4.46
anyone else £2.76

so no matter what i win a couple of quid

Title: Re: warnock job
Post by: Graham C on November 29, 2005, 10:15:00 PM
this trading off, is it like this?

if i back at 2.00 for £5 then i need to lay off at anything less than 2 for the same amount?

likewise if i lay at 2.00 for £5 then I back at anything greater for the £5?

is that correct?

Title: Re: warnock job
Post by: Ironside on November 29, 2005, 10:17:46 PM
i think so

but i only been doing it less than 24 hours and cocked up on the football

ended up winning 20p on arsenal and losing £2 on villa
and i am still exposed a few pounts on the champions league but hoping that will resolve itself next week

Title: Re: warnock job
Post by: Ironside on November 30, 2005, 08:27:01 AM
ok is this good?

warnock wins i get £9.05
redknapp gives me £5.36
mcliesh a whopping £11.70
anyone else £6

Title: Re: warnock job
Post by: Ironside on November 30, 2005, 11:36:17 AM
ok i have shifted my postion to favour the 3 favourites

£11.20 if warnock wins
£11.71 if redknapp does the dirty
£10.70 if mcliesh jumps before he is pushed
and £5 if anyone else  including me get the job

I can only think that SUFC were playing for time whilst they sorted out a new contract and have let Portsmouth in to see what the offer is, they will then match it.

bookiebasher mentions Phil Bull, who was the founder of Timeform. Fascinating man, who I got to know quite well. Anyone know any Phil Bull stories? A quite extraodinary man, who lived in Halifax. Owned a lot of Racehorses over the years, always with ancient Greek names.

When Phil spioke, it was time to listen. Great, great man.

Mention of a "payoff" if Pompey got relgated reminded me of my Chairman when I was working, Mr John Kirkland OBE. For 40 or more years, John's Father, Jack, & then John himself, were Directors at Derby County. I believe Jack was instrumental in Cloughie departing, Jack believed that NO individual, even Brian Clough, was bigger than the club.

Anyway, when John was Chairman, or Vice-Chairman, he believed in running the Football Club along commercial lines. So he was against paying players wages if they got suspended. Quite right too.

But he used to get apoletic with rage at the mere suggestion that when employees (of Derby County, or his Construction Group, Bowmer & Kirkland) got dismissed for failing to deliver, they should get paid off. He would take their car keys off them immediately & give them NOTHING. He simply could not grasp why someone should fail, & get paid for failing. "It will disincentivise those that do their job properl;y" he told me a million times.

When I decided to retire, he ofered me a number of different positions within his Group, in a bid to keep me, but I'd burned out, & was not prepared to work for him unless I could give him maximum value, as I always had. I said, "Thanks John, but I'm all washed up, I can't go on, I just can't hack it any more, the Company has got too big for me, & I have some things to do in life before it's too late". ("My" company, owned by him but run by me was turning over £50 million plus by then). I had no contract - I don't believe in them, nor did he, so that was that, I asumed.

Imagine my shock when he says"OK Tony, I don't want to keep you if you are not happy. I will pay you 2 years salary, & you can keep your Company Car (a Merc). Organise your succession, & you can go". What a top, top man, who I truly idolse. We still keep in touch, & he's knocked out about Poker 425 & stuff, watches it regularly.

Don't know why I just told you all that, but there you go.

Nice story mate

but I'm all washed up, I can't go on, I just can't hack it any more

Oops, that may get a repeat airing........occasionally!!
For anyone to spot values in any employee is a true sign of competency, my production manager took a temp off the shop floor and gave him an office job stating "he's far too intelligent to waste here".
I actually challenged him to an IQ test, shopfloor v staff (even though i am staff i regard myself as "one of the lads" though that's very tough!!).
He declined and i mention it as regularly as i can get away with :)

i dont care either way as long as the prices keeps shifting i can turn a huge profit
keep backing when there are huge backers and keep laying when the layers are huge the price changes and i trade off

well i got £5 on pleat at 170 yesterday then put it up for sale at 160 thought it was a wasted £5 after no intrest dispite press mentioning his name yesterday went to toilet today came back and pleat went aslow at 60 after getting mention on sky sports so i get a free £50 on pleat but could of been a hell of a lot more if i didnt need to go for a call of nature

wow, nice going Ironside.  I need me some of that :D

Im down about £20 if Harry takes it

Title: Re: warnock job
Post by: Ironside on December 02, 2005, 05:19:01 PM
currently i am fully laid up on harry and and stand to lose £40 but if the field wins i get £62 and i have a select few that would give me £100+ some nearly 4 figures

i lost alot when warnock walked away yesterday and i was busy backing him at 4-1 so spent today resolving this

redknapp willl drift to 1.5 in a few hours where i tend to use most of the £62 i have on field to recover some of my loses on harry and wait for him to drift back to 1.3 again and replay the ths, as nothing will be done untill money and the market will continue to move i should clear my liabilty on harry just keep an eye on where the market chasers are putting there money and try and get in and out around that value

If Redknapp does go to 1.5, I could be in :D  Layed at 1.38 so should at least recover my loss.

the price is being kept artifically low while the backers get there bets laid off

thats why you see huge bets every know and then then as soon as the price moves down then come off

Title: Re: warnock job
Post by: Ironside on December 02, 2005, 08:59:08 PM
you can put in a bet name the price you think will be fair and hope that nothing drastic happens then if it reaches the price you want you will get it

2 huge rolls facing each other off at 1.24/5 20k v 10k

which every one backs down then the price will jump

Title: Re: warnock job
Post by: Ironside on December 02, 2005, 09:01:12 PM
they clashed on the 1.25 now lets see if the price rockets up

Title: Re: warnock job
Post by: Ironside on December 02, 2005, 09:02:38 PM
the problem is the market is priced at 103%  so for redknapp to move up someone has to come in and nobody has a clue who to back

if you know what you are doing you can make cash. I mearly put money in others pockets  -  Im happy though.  I generally just bet, I dont try and trade off

i have no idea what i am doing but i am still trading off my lose on redknapp only down about 20 now and up over 60 on the feild and a couple of hundred on the real rivals

lesson for betfair never leave a position open when you goto bed i left a lay open at 1.15 on redknapp last night with the knowledge that nothing would happen today with the saints being a PLC and milan being in ireland only for redknapp to resign

Title: Re: warnock job
Post by: Ironside on December 03, 2005, 11:34:34 PM
i also had bets open on kerr and sanchez at 100 mcliesh at 30 and robson at 80

knowing that with nothing happening today when i woke up only mcleish was under100

and he has only come in this evening due to him also likey to be unemployed on wednessday

my thinkig is milan will waiting till tuesday night if rangers get knocked out he will aproach mcleish

if rangers get thru he will appoint redknapp so i am still happy with my postion as i think rangers will lose to inter and porto will win and go thru

With Redknapp resigning, I can only see him becoming the new Pompey manager.

Title: Re: warnock job
Post by: Ironside on December 03, 2005, 11:59:47 PM
the fact he has resing means nothing unless milan is willing to pay the compensation he cant speak to him
milan is reluctant to give saints any money as he feels they stole redknapp in first place
anyway mcleish was always the 2nd choice and milan has been told he can speak to mcleish on wednessday but not to make it public and he can get mcleish for nothing as it will save rangers paying him £1mill in compensation
redknapp has always been 3rd choice

Not big movement but Sanchez seems to be moving in and Harry is out to 1.3.

OK Its all on betfair, but things are moving.  Im not so sure Harry will accept the job now.  I heard he will be out of things for up to 6 months on the radio this morning.

i traded off at 1.57 to go green all over

was on phone to robertHM at time and he was red all over apart from 3 but i talked him into a lay an he is now green all over

It's even better now, I laid Harry at 1.29, still in the green if he gets the job but all the others are stronger green. I am beginning to like this game.

That should be about the top of the market, I agree. But heaven knows when that might happen. I hate the idea of leaving a market open on an unattended machine.

i have layed redknapp again at this price its too good there will be drift back up tonight but i have to fly in morning so i am going to have to leave the postion open

btw easy to spot the guys trying to trade off there loses

they put a bet out that they want matched then put in a huge bet 2 or 3 points betting against there postion they want matched as soon as it gets matched they remove the huge bet

I backed harry at 2.0 :D  Layed him at 1.38 and Im going to break even on harry if he doesnt get it and be up if he does. - happy with that just glad to have covered some of my potential losses.

Didn't see that one coming at all!!! Harry's back at the helm at Fortress Fratton. How did you exchangers do then? P&L wise? Always been intrigued by them, but I'm not really a gambling man, the green beize of the poker table is as far as my fluttering goes Im afraid (and that's not too much like gambling to me tbh, it's the ultimate mind game).

I bet Warnock at 2.24 and layed him at 2.02 so a tiny profit. I never had the time to get on Harry etc and I'm gobsmacked hes gone there. And didnt he look happy in the press conference :D

Hah!!

Anyone else seen the news that Southampton have called for an investigation into betting exchanges? Quite a fair amount shifted, comparable to the outcome of the FA Cup! BetFair have signed an agreement of understanding with the FA so will help out with any investigations apparently. Interesting stuff!! Watch the exchanges and not what people are saying it seems.

Just caught up on this thread.
Very interesting to be sure, but it sounds like a very dangerous game of making money.
