So the deals should only get better as summer approaches.
Title: Re: mgm vegas rooms at £36pn Post by: Simon Galloway on March 25, 2009, 01:01:00 PM Was having a poke around the other day on smartervegas and I noticed you could get a MGM Terrace Suite for only a couple of hundred. Won't break the bank for a couple of nights balla, 1300sq ft, two-story suites with a massive balcony. Pre recession, these were $1k per night stuff.
Nothing wrong with the standard rooms tho - apart from them potentially being half a mile from the lifts... Title: Re: mgm vegas rooms at £36pn Post by: Woodsey on March 25, 2009, 01:06:43 PM LOL, I'm staying at the Flamingo in early may for 6 nights for $87 in total for the full stay.
Title: Re: mgm vegas rooms at £36pn Post by: tikay on March 25, 2009, 01:08:22 PM A piece in The Times earlier this week suggested Vegas was being hit hard by the economic thingie. Footfall through McCarron is down 25% year on year - a pretty reliable yardstick, I'd have thought. Over 350 planned conventions in Vegas were cancelled in February alone, partly because Obama mocked all the Corporate jollies the Banking & Finance Industry were still going to hold. It also said, eye-raisingly, that some 80% of the Hotels profits came from Slots! That's jaw-dropping, (if true), the power of Slots. Given that the whole Vegas industry is geared around various forms of gaming/gambling, plus the Big-Name Shows, the era of completely free Hotel accommodation cannot be far off. A lot of Hotel capacity has been planned & constructed in the last few boom years, (borrowed money financed it, of course), and is now coming on stream, so this will excacerbate the situation. Bad news for Messrs Trump & Wynn is good news for those Vegas-bound. For every action, a reaction. Title: Re: mgm vegas rooms at £36pn Post by: Simon Galloway on March 25, 2009, 01:12:37 PM If AQ beats AK for much longer, I will be offering him $17 for the floor.... so please get a GO room :)

After MGM Mirage revealed a 2008 fourth-quarter operating loss of $1.15 billion, shares fell more than 6 percent in early trading on Wednesday. Global economic conditions and market trends hurt the Las Vegas company in the fourth quarter, and in the earnings statement released yesterday, MGM said these trends have continued into the first quarter. According to Bloomberg, auditors have strong doubts that MGM will be able to carry on, which could lead the company to seek bankruptcy protection. In the filing, MGM said it received a waiver and amendment of its senior credit facility, which will allow it to make required equity contributions to CityCenter through May 15. “While there is still work to be done, this is a positive step that provides us with the opportunity to continue to work with our financial advisors and our bank group in addressing the company's current financial position," said James J. Murren, the company’s chairman and chief executive, regarding the waiver and amendment. MGM reported a fourth-quarter revenue of $1.6 billion -- down from the $1.9 billion earned in last year’s corresponding period. For the full year, net revenues decreased 6 percent to $7.2 billion. In the fourth quarter, the casino operator posted a loss of $1.15 billion, and a loss per share of $4.15 including an asset impairment charge of $1.2 billion, or $4.25 per share. Overall revenue for gaming was down 17 percent for the quarter, as was table games volume, MGM said. Despite the fourth-quarter room revenue drop of 21 percent, Mr. Murren said that MGM resorts are “still driving high occupancy” given the challenging economic climate. Title: Re: mgm vegas rooms at £36pn Post by: 77dave on March 25, 2009, 07:36:25 PM The strip and poker rooms in Vegas are as busy as ever as far as i see.
I went to the Venetian on Monday at 2pm. They had 12 $1/2 and 8 $2/5 games with waiting lists to get into both. Restaurants and shows are getting hit, but it looks like tighter money gets the more people gamble. Me too, I so want to go but lack the bankroll to buy a trip and the talent to win a trip. Some lucky ones make it though, perhaps I can do it this year. |
