Title: Is thisa standard call?
Post by: George2Loose on March 26, 2009, 09:47:44 PM
ok 35 left. 27 paid. 100r with 1ra (TURBO) 5 min blinds

Villian set me in from sb last time- I folded. Previously he raised button with K9 and didnt bink against my aces (he had to call re raise)

I'm thinking his range in this spot is quite wide- given that is this a call or still a fold? Blinds are going to 1k/2k after this hand:

Fold for me and look to shove any 2 rather than call K8

OK and if I have A8?

I call with A8

is that flawed thinking? is A8 all that different to K8. Actually I guess weak aces are a large part of range so it is a reasonable difference...

+2

I probs fold A 8 in this spot as well.
I'd rather get it in first with 9 3 soooted than call with junk.

as a proviso a call is probably the right thing to do

if he's shoving atc then your k8o is only like 56% here and it's highly unlikely that his range is atc

rather stick it in with crap than call here

A8o is only about 3% better vs atc

I'll re-iterate that I believe villians range is super wide.

Also everyone so far has said you'd rather shove shite from the button then call in this spot. I'm very unlikely to get a chance to shove from LP as people are consistently opening before me

Also people's calling ranges from a cut off/button/MP shove are also quite wide

I don't hate a call here. If I'm in the small I'm shoving any two.

Timebank and OPR him imo.

If hes a winning player then call, if hes a losing player you can fold.

I don't hate it either but have realised I didn't make it clear with my post. my reason for pointing out that we're 56% vs atc was to say that we're never too far ahead here so it's close.

if he's pushing top 60% it's a flip, if he's pushing atc we're 56%. essentially everyone's pushing range falls between these 2 so by making the call we're always going to be a slight favourite against oppos range here. in fact I've just talked myself into a call with no further info

As the hand progresses and it gets folded round, I'm hovering over the call button ready to crush his dreams insta-style.

Call and its not close, yeah you might only be 55% against his range or whatever but i would rather be 55% now for this pot when i have this many blinds than looking for a 'better' spot down the line where i might find a 60-40 or even 70-30 for an 18k pot.

I put one arm in the air and snapped.

ALPACA had 72 suited (diamonds)

Flop was two diamonds and I dodged the lot to double up
