Good point, I reckon it's a run-of-the-mill transmogrification of joke into urban myth.

That would be 226 bottles pre-allin shove.

Very bad play all round here.

The businessmen's 3-bet should have only been to about 11 bottles - no need to go to 20.

Ivey's 4-bet to 200 is just horrible spew - could have achieved the same result by raising to about 60 imo.

Mods, plz move this thread to the CHA board.

I don't really understand this thing about people proving how much money they can afford to waste, or of others being impressed by it.

It reminds me of how, when sugar was a luxury only the rich could afford, those that had it would rub it on their teeth until they went black because black teeth = wealth.

How balla was that ?

How balla was that ?

And that as back when £1m was a lot of money.

It's a sad reflection on society that it will have impressed more people than it would if they had spent the money on MRI scanners or incubators for premature babies.

I wrote up this story and apparently it's true! (well let's just say that in essence it's true, although details of the story may have been exaggerated somewhere along the line)

It is ridiculous excess obviously and AndrewT is right, the bet-sizing is all off.

I guess in some ways it does represent what Vegas is all about - vulgar excess and showmanship.

I prefer the story of Ivey about how some small stakes player shipped him $10 on Full Tilt as a joke, only for Ivey to ship him $1k back.

I always wondered if this was true, or a clever money-making scheme by Ivey, involving tens of thousands of small stakers all shipping him $10 hoping for the same treatment!

Probably not a very good gag from me then.

Trying to say they spent all their money on women, and that those women's bodies could be considered baby incubators.

As I say, not the best, but I'll keep trying.

If this story is true, Ivey might be even more dull than he seems.

So, he might have impressed the businessmen, but they were not the only people in the coup. How does Ivey think the waiter feels about him throwing away more money than he and every other normal person earns in a year? Pretty pathetic I would think.

Not when the waiters get 18% service charge on every bottle.
fwiw I think the story about the Cristal and shipping 10 bucks is total bs, someone in the Ivey balla thread on 2+2 said they were going to do the "ship Ivey 10 bucks on tilt" thing and now it appears to have happened and he got 1k back LOL
urban myth ftw

You're absolutely right, I have no right to question how peeps spend their money, and I didn't really intend to do that, nobody likes a sanctimonious bastard.

Anyway, however it's spent, I suppose it still works it's way through the economy, so everyone benefits.

Burning it though?  :dontask:

"I'd hate for you guys to go out and have fun"

This made me laugh because it reminded me of something that Mrs Red says.

Although she doesn't drink much, she likes parties, weddings etc, I don't, but I sometimes go along for her sake. When I do, I tend to stay in the background and she says "Your problem is, you don't like enjoying yourself".

In fact, Ivey is the one person that never looks like he is having fun.

Lol @ everyone just wanting to take this so serious and start questioning the way people spend their money. I'd hate for you guys to go out and have fun.

Depends your definition of fun. Mine is having a laugh with people that you know and like, not spending sick amounts of money in the hope that people will think you're great.

In fact, Ivey is the one person that never looks like he is having fun.

Yeah but really he is DUCY?
