My boss is just arranging this.

1. He's been told 1 or 2 weeks with your feet up - and you can't drive
6 weeks for the full recovery

2. Also he's been quoted £837 for both knees - so wtf are you going?

I had mine done two years ago after a misshap playing footy. Did the trick and sorted out the crap in them.

Went with NHS and from referal to op was 2 months. I was up and about a week after on crutches. Back at work and walking about two weeks after the op.

The swelling for the first week was the problem, so feet up and icepack 24/7 :)

Did lots of leg work for 2 months and playing footy 3 months afterwards...Although for me I took about 6 months to feel normal again.

Had this done a couple of months ago. From MRI to op was 2 months on NHS.
About a week properly on crutches and a week just using one to be safe.
Driving is the most difficult thing but as i was able to work from home i didn't really attempt it till 4-5 weeks after but it was still uncomfortable. I only started working in the office again after 7 or 8 weeks.

Pffffffffff, take it you are all males. I had this done last last Friday at 04.30 am, out of bed by 5am, OK a little painful, drove bread van to bakery and delivered bread on way home. Milked the cows, fed the sheep did the washing and had it hung out by 9am in time to wake up Darren to wash him  and dress him ready for his full English breakfast I had cooked and had on the table like any good wife would do. I did have a sit down around 10 am mind to have a wee. Then onto do rest of womanly chores before I started my late turn on the Train.

Why Squat?

The squat is essential to your well-being. The squat can both greatly improve your athleticism and keep your hips, back, and knees sound and functioning in your senior years.

Not only is the squat not detrimental to the knees it is remarkably rehabilitative of cranky, damaged, or delicate knees. In fact, if you do not squat, your knees are not healthy regardless of how free of pain or discomfort you are. This is equally true of the hips and back.

The squat is no more an invention of a coach or trainer than is the hiccup or sneeze. It is a vital, natural, functional, component of your being. The squat, in the bottom position, is nature's intended sitting posture (chairs are not part of your biological make-up), and the rise from the bottom to the stand is the biomechanically sound method by which we stand-up. There is nothing contrived or artificial about this movement......

FFS the NHS is really is a pile of poo my MRI showed a small degenerative tear  of the free margin of the 3rd middle lateral meniscus(will google that in a min) so my consultant has to write a letter to my GP to get him to write for a  referral to the orthopedic consultant at the same hospital,as apparently it is to do with costs,

now get this the orthopedic consultants office is next to my consultants office!!!!!!!!

/\ The look on the surgeon's face when he realised he'd forgotten to do an MRI scan. Proceeded instead with an operation based on 'clinical assessment'. Hasn't really fixed the knee I don't think. He did have a wry smile on his face post op 'You know all those things you did? Kiteboarding, skiing, running?' Keep doing them, then come back to me in 2 years and I'll fit you with a new set of knees.' So he's stuck me on swimming :( I can't really walk far without feeling some pain in the knee. I get the feeling he didn't do enough, or maybe wasn't informed enough because of no MRI. I now need to demand my hospital notes to do the research myself and see if I need a second opinion.

i went for my consultation today, apparently the consultant doesnt think i have torn the cartlidge as it is on the wrong side of the knee to where i am getting the pain,so i have to wait upto 11 weeks to get the arthoscope to see what is wrong,

oh and my rhemautology consultant will be "missing" for 8/9 months wtf?? so on hearing that news i asked for a repeat prescription for the methatrexate that i am on as my cancelled appointment will mean i wont have any medication for 2 months,No luck on that score as there wasnt any dr's answering the pagers!!!1

[ ] Knee hairs grow back , fyl :D

I was late for a train the other day, so had to run about 1 mile, happiest day of my life. Got to the train, was like WTFFF? No pain at all in my right knee. Old man has been going on to me like forever about the importance of building strength around the knee if it's a bit ****ed, so the cartilage doesn't have to bear most of the load all the time. Been doing squats with weights and walking 90 minutes a day, feels much stronger. Am going back to doc for 2nd opinion on whether I actually shouldn't be running ever again or doing serious sports. So glad I did get the operation though, and refused to let them anywhere near my knee with that razor thingie.

Best of luck with the op!  :)up  ;stickaforkinme;

All home safe and sound, but not without drama, ffs got to the hossie, booked in sat in waiting lounge, everyone else was being seen by the anethietist then going to get gowned up,all bar me,asked nurse what was going on and was told dont worry they haven'nt forgotten you,15mins later a registra calls me and we go into a side room.He tells me that i have no pre op notes and unless they can get them they will not be doing the operation as it is against the law.

He asked me what the consultant looked like so it would make it easier to track him down, like i could remeber exactly so said about 50 ish bit portly and wears glasses..

1/2 an hour later he comes back up to the now empty lounge and gives me the thumbs up,phew.

get to see anethetist all ok there no allergies/asthma etc were good to go,registra comes in and talks about what what they are going to do and draws a big black arrow pointing to the knee,i asked wouldnt the massive swelling and shaved knee give you a clue? procedure apparently.

All gowned up and get this had to walk to the theatre, 1st time i have ever done that was quite wierd really walking into an operating theatre, anyway i get on bed and surprise surprise my note are not in thetre FFS wtf is going on in this place,10 mins passes with calls and nurses to and froing b4 someone comes in with them phew, begin to get the knock out drugs through the face mask and told to count back from 10 got to zero and was asked am i sleepy? No not at all, oops he said i'll need to increase the dosage, hold on right count back again, got to 4 and gone and out.....

woke up feeling well spaced out yum registra comes round and tells how it all went but cant remember a thing as was still flying about,

but when i was compus mentus they told me that the tear was so slight it wasnt worthy of trying to repair and that there is mass degeneration of the cartlidge and a synovial biopsy was taken and that they had used 5 litres of saline to clear every thing out but they will be looking at biopsy results for rhematiod arthritus..

2 weeks min time off work then see how knee is fk i'm going to be skint.

On a slightly worrying side note the medication that i am taking are what that dr who tried to abort his girlfriends unborn baby and can cause death.Methatrexate and diclofenac arrrrrrgg

but when i was compus mentus they told me that the tear was so slight it wasnt worthy of trying to repair and that there is mass degeneration of the cartlidge and a synovial biopsy was taken and that they had used 5 litres of saline to clear every thing out but they will be looking at biopsy results for rhematiod arthritus..

2 weeks min time off work then see how knee is fk i'm going to be skint.

On a slightly worrying side note the medication that i am taking are what that dr who tried to abort his girlfriends unborn baby and can cause death.Methatrexate and diclofenac arrrrrrgg

I got some codeine based stuff afterwards, it was bloody fantastic tbh.

Get Well Soon!

Twisted the knee I've had the op on last night at rugby. Didn't hurt as much as when I messed it up but it has ballooned. Don't fancy another op. Is it likely to be easier to do once you've done it once?

Should be 3 small incisions either side of the knee and the middle.

I saw my consultant yesterday who performed the op,he told me that unfortunately there was nothing that he could actually do as the tear in the cartlidge was so slight that it wasnt worth doing anything with as it would have made it worse, and with nothing wrong with the knee mechanically so thats that really.

from the biopsy that they took it is most probably going to be rhematoid arthritis but as he was orthapedic he couldnt say 100%,my next appt is feb i think if my rheumatology consultant is back at work as he is of sick for 6/9  months sick leave.......

I hate getting old............
