Title: pc help please .,.,it went phut Post by: G1BTW on July 07, 2009, 01:05:28 PM just came back after week away,pressed soft power button on my desktop and it went phut and died. power fan no spin but optical mouse lights wtf? have triplet ammeter but no know where to start :s May have pulled kettle lead in haste on running pc before departure. :( help!!

Only sound was like the phut of the soft power button shorting or something. Now nothing. It's a wired PS2 optical. If that doesn't work, turn it off and reset BIOS, try and power it back up. If that doesn't work, well I'll be back. There is a clear CMOS (BIOS) jumper on the motherboard, or a lithium battery you could take out. Im asking for my lappie, it takes 10 goes to get it up and running. It keeps on asking me at the start if i wanna start windows normally or the last good configuration. Which ever one i enter it just reboots itself once it gets windows loading. Ive been punching it to make it work, it sometimes does and sometimes just takes an absolute age. Im getting a new one very soon, but wondering if there is something else i can do to make it work. Ive reset it to factory settings a few times but no joy. Laptops are a bit different, they are a pain to open up. Some have a small BIOS reset switch on the outside. But the fact it is already booting up, means a BIOS reset is unlikely to change anything and it also means you can reset the BIOS via the software as it's booting up if you wanted. Could your laptop be overheating? Sounds like it to me. |
