Title: GUKPT leg 6 Luton - advice pls
Post by: Drain Alien on July 29, 2009, 08:03:46 AM
Hi guys

apols if this has gone into the wrong area (I wasn't sure where to post it)
Luton g next week - £1060 main event for GUKPT.

- Day 1a (Thursday) or 1b (Friday) ?

apart from the obvious break advantage (on Friday) by selecting Thursday, any other thoughts to swing decision?

Thanks v much, Drainy

Day 1 tends to be more pro's and people there for the week whereas Friday is more tourists taking Friday off work. Depends who you want to play against. IMO.

Friday will be the bigger field innit. Whether that's a good or a bad thing I dunno.

Friday's tend to be softer IMHO. More unexpected bullets to dodge though.

Absolutely dsagree with the above.

Thursday's are MUCH softer imo.

The pros want to save on travelling costs/hotels and will book for Friday -> Sunday.

I reckon both days are pretty much the same.

Damn, just as I was reaching a conclusion a conflicting response comes in.

Currently booked on flight b, but last night a couple of regulars suggested that I switch (due to the rest advantage) hence the post.

........Still not decided.    ;-(

any other views or thoughts?

Or do I just flip a coin?  (as if I don't face enuff coin-flips every day!)

Less players on thursday, hence more short-handed play towards the end.

So, if short handed is your bag....

ahhh but more players friday means more chips in play, more chance of getting a big stack.

If you have to fly there, then play on the friday to save on hotel bills.

Thanks very much to all who commented.
Lots of interesting (and inevitably differing!) views.

My current thinking - rightly or wrongly - is to stick with day 1b.

But that could change!

Thanks again.

So you shopped around and then went back to your first choice. Are you a woman?

I didn't think luton was a popular stop on the tourist trail.

I guess there's the historically significant Kennilworth Road where they used to play top flight football way back when.

Then there is the kebab shop in the high street, scene of some great fights down the years.

The world famous Sainsburys car park, spiritual home to crackheads from throughout Western Europe.

One of my first outings in the police was to the football ground. I could hear water on my head, looked up and one of the spectators was peeing from the back of one of the stands onto my police hat. It was like a right of passage! Lovely place....

the £100 comp tomorrow. will I be OK turning up half hour before it starts or will it have sold out by then? if so can I ring tonight and pay by debit card?

Title: Re: GUKPT leg 6 Luton - advice pls

don't think you can ring in, though you can pay in advance at any grosvenor/G

Can't see it being a sell out with 300+ at dtd, though it was a sell out last year. Earlier you can get there the better I would suggest, if you haven't bought in advance

Try the latter Byron - turning up at 5.30 would be cutting it very fine.

But there's no chance of it starting at 6, as I fancy a lot of players will turn up at the last minute, & chaos will reign. 5pm should be OK, I'd have thought.

If I'd known this morning, I woulda paid you in myself - I did a bunch of buy-ins for Luton while I eas at The Vic.

You might yet get the chance. I'm trying to ring a few Luton Regs, to see if I can get you bought in tonight.

I just rung Chompy, but he musta spotted my number, cos he bounced the Call. I've already grimmed him for £650, what's another £110.50 between ex-friends?

I overheard one of the cardroom staff on the phone to a punter last night, and he was saying smart trainers are ok. I meant to query it afterwards, and forgot!
