Title: RSQ31 - Everyone join in! Post by: Cf on August 21, 2009, 02:18:52 PM The RSQ has been declining in numbers recently. Hopefully everyone can make an effort to join in with this one :)
Welcome to RSQ31. For those who haven't played before this is a good chance to get some practice at the format in before bB8, where there will be a live version of this quiz. The idea is simple. PM me an answer to each question. All the questions are quite easy, but with some not so obvious answers. Your score for each question is the amount of people who selected the same answer. So you want to avoid obvious answers. But if an answer is super obvious you might want to use it because no-one else will use it because it's too obvious. Or whatever. The most common answer is called the sheep answer. You may pass TWO questions. You score 0 for each question you pass. This is good, so be sure to use both passes, even if you can answer all questions. Note that you can't pass question 11. If you get a question wrong then you will score the sheep score + 2. The reveal will take place in this thread at 19:30, Tuesday 1st September. During the reveal we will see who answered what and score the quiz. If you wish to object to an answer then feel free. I'll review the objection and give you a decision. The winner of the quiz has the honour of either hosting the next RSQ themselves, or nominating someone else to do it. Any questions, post to this thread. Deadlines for submission: 19:30, Tuesday 1st September. Good luck! QUESTIONS 1. Name a circular road traffic sign which has a white background and a red circular border. Must be in the highway code. 2. Name a non-numeric button found on a standard, non-scientific, calculator. Source: Windows Vista calculator. 3. Name a song by The Beatles whose title includes a person's name. 4. Name a position in association football. 5. Name a rock or metal band whose name begins with a vowel. Must be quite well known. If I haven't heard of them myself I would expect to find a wikipedia article or some sort of professional review etc. Your mate's band who plays down the pub probably doesn't count. 6. Name a state in the USA whose name consists of more than one word. 7. Name something you might expect to find in a bathroom. NOTE: non-ace answers will incur a 2 point penalty. 8. Name a state of matter. 9. Name a video game featuring Sonic the Hedgehog. 10. Name one of the red brick universities. 11. TIE BREAKER - Give me an interesting fact. The fact can be about anything. In the event of a tie at the end of the quiz the most interesting fact wins. Objections to facts in the reveal are allowed. If a fact turns out to be incorrect you will incur a 2 point penalty. Not giving a fact also gets a 2 point penalty. 12. Name a Star Wars film. CURRENT ENTRANTS Claw75 dousche The-Crow G1BTW kinboshi TightEnd Shogun112 Title: Re: RSQ31 - Everyone join in! Post by: gatso on August 21, 2009, 06:49:02 PM Can we just forget about the quiz and have an interesting fact thread instead? great idea in theory. in practice however it's likely most of them won't be interesting and the ones that are won't be facts Title: Re: RSQ31 - Everyone join in! Post by: thetank on August 21, 2009, 07:00:13 PM The followers of Pythagoras considered that all even numbers were female and all odd numbers were male.

Title: Re: RSQ31 - Everyone join in! Post by: Cf on August 26, 2009, 02:23:09 PM Hey guys.
Turns out I'm busy tonight, so in typical rsq farce style I'm going to have to move the reveal. I've set the date to next Tuesday instead. Hope this is ok with everyone. Anyone who hasn't entered yet: get some answers in! Will only take you 2 minutes to come up with some :) Title: Re: RSQ31 - Everyone join in! Post by: kinboshi on August 26, 2009, 02:51:37 PM Question 8 - are the answers all going to be whales, or are you looking for specifics? If you're going to whale different answers, then there aren't many correct ones - so it might have to be a pass.
Title: Re: RSQ31 - Everyone join in! Post by: Cf on August 26, 2009, 02:57:01 PM There are not many answers to question 8. There are 3 obvious answers, and 3 not so obvious answers to my knowledge (or at least according to QI lol)
A couple of the questions have limited answers, but are perhaps more difficult. Tactical usage of your 2 passes is recomended. Title: Re: RSQ31 - Everyone join in! Tactical usage of your 2 passes is recomended. There are well over a dozen answers, but you might lump some together as whales (e.g. Sperm whale and Blue whale being the same answer for an aquatic mammal). If you're going to do that, then I'll pass. Title: Re: RSQ31 - Everyone join in! Post by: Cf on August 26, 2009, 03:17:47 PM Depending on what you put it may well be whaled into a more suitable form. Take a punt, or just pass it :)
Title: Re: RSQ31 - Everyone join in! Post by: kinboshi on August 26, 2009, 03:23:28 PM Depending on what you put it may well be whaled into a more suitable form. Take a punt, or just pass it :) There isn't a more 'suitable' form. It's one of the states of matter. Anyway, if you're only going to allow 6 answers, then it doesn't matter (see what I did there?). I'll just pass it. Title: Re: RSQ31 - Everyone join in! Post by: Cf on August 26, 2009, 03:53:39 PM Of course, just because I consider there to be 6 doesn't mean that I'm correct. Objections may be made.
But that would involve disagreeing with Stephen Fry.. Title: Re: RSQ31 - Everyone join in! It just won't do you much good in a tie break situation where I select the most interesting :) Title: Re: RSQ31 - Everyone join in! Anyone who plans on entering that hasn't yet, start getting your answers in :) Anyone who wasn't planning on entering, why not? Think you'll find dousche's score isn't correct from that point on. I notice that he had two sheep answers - whereas I've only had one (before the final round that is). Found the error. I accidently gave kinboshi a 2 point penalty for his fact instead of TightEnd. More fun still to come as TightEnd reads the rest of the thread and no doubt blows up later on.
Onto the final question: QUESTION 12 - Name a Star Wars film. SHEEP - Return of the Jedi - 2 points Claw75 kinboshi ACE - A New Hope - 1 point dousche ACE - The Empire Strikes Back - 1 point The-Crow PASS G1BTW TightEnd Shogun112 Giving us final scores of: kinboshi - 11 dousche - 11 G1BTW - 13 TightEnd - 13 Claw75 - 16 The-Crow - 18 Shogun112 - 19 Meaning our final RSQ winner is kinboshi.
