Its a busy month....also PSOP is on in London/The International, this weekend (£1000 buy in with £10,000 added), and some pros have gone/are going to the WPT in Cyprus this weekend. Title: Re: GUKPT Cardiff News/Chip counts Post by: TightEnd on September 04, 2009, 11:27:23 AM no updates on Blonde? Didn't even know this was on today! We haven't had a sponsor since Minted Poker pulled out in May. We also have a commitment to the DTD £300, which is sponsored by DTD, and where Kev is going for tomorrow Since Minted pulled out I've done Manchester, Newcastle and half of Luton on a voluntary basis but am not available this weekend for us to go double on the live updates. We're really keen to do the GUKPTs (and other non DTD events) but sadly there's a limit to what we can do financially, or indeed with one person going solo at them, unless we get a sponsor or higher revenues. They ain't cheap when you factor in travel, hotels, updater payment etc Title: Re: GUKPT Cardiff News/Chip counts Post by: celtic on September 04, 2009, 11:32:35 AM Ahhh, I seem to vaguely remember about Minted pulling out.
Would have been fun to get a couple of the locals to a mini update. I'm thinking dewi with the camera & sofa-king with words.... Would have been fun to get a couple of the locals to a mini update. I'm thinking dewi with the camera & sofa-king with words.... True, but only if they'd do it for free. The point is valid though, we'll have to be creative on updates until we get funding/money. Title: Re: GUKPT Cardiff News/Chip counts Post by: celtic on September 04, 2009, 11:37:18 AM You could charge as much as you like if dewi had the camera and sofa did the updating imo.

The very last hand of the night goes to Dewi James, who finds ACES and talks Raymond O’Mahoney into calling his all-in preflop bet of 15k. “If I had AQ, I’d call!” says Dewi. None other - & a true giant of UK Tournament Poker. His Database of Live Tourney cashes stretches back about 15 years, & few, if any players have cashed in as many Fessie Events as Alan. I think he's accumulated nearly $800,000 in winnings. Title: Re: GUKPT Cardiff News/Chip counts Post by: byronkincaid on September 05, 2009, 11:28:04 AM but how much has he loosed?

Title: Re: GUKPT Cardiff News/Chip counts Post by: tikay on September 05, 2009, 11:40:15 AM but how much has he loosed? No idea - maybe more than he's won, I don't know. I just know his "winnings" are more than most players could ever hope to achieve. When I first came to poker, I actually thought that Player Databases such as THM were having a laugh. They list winnings, but not losses. After a lifetime in commerce, that stat seemed to me to be meaningless. (As indeed, it is). It's like, say, Gross Profit, in business - it means nothing - Net Profit is the number that counts. But all Live Poker Databases work the same way - cashes listed, losses not mentioned. It's a complete & utter nonsense, but those immersed in poker long enough gradually come to accept them as some sort of yardstick. And by that yardstick, Alan is as good as most in UK Live Poker. I wonder how many other prominent Circuit players, or even Online players, have his longevity in the game? Title: Re: GUKPT Cardiff News/Chip counts Post by: TightEnd on September 05, 2009, 11:47:31 AM Allan is also an interesting case I believe, as he was a LAGgy maniac well before the style of LAG came to the fore. He, Eric Barker, Ali Mallu terrorised the festival scene in the UK for about a decade and a lot of opponents didn't have a clue how to counter them
The festival scene has moved on, everyone knows what Allan is about style wise, yet he still gets results. Some achievement I feel. Some achievement I feel. Agreed, 100%. He's over 70, I think. The game has changed during his career - several times - yet he's still there. September 6th, 2009 at 11:39 pm The very next hand it ended. Iwan had 13k left and was all in with T-7. Karl had A-4. No improvement for Iwan and he finishes in 2nd place for £25,200. Karl Mahrenholz is the third Hitsquad player to win a GUKPT. He was runner up at the inaugural GUKPT in Bolton in 2007 and now he has joined Praz Bansi and Sunny Chattha by taking down a main event. He takes away £38,700, a seat in the Champion of Champion’s event and a nice blue trophy. Info from the GUKPT blog, again.
