I don't know anything about total security, whether it's meant to be good or not but I'd turn it off n see how everything works from there. Title: Re: trojan/virus infection ???????helpppppppp Post by: G1BTW on September 04, 2009, 07:49:54 PM I had a very similar virus a few weeks back, by a minor miracle I came away ok and have been clean ever since (I think).
AVG will not totally remove it any way. You need to run a combo pack of stronger stuffs. This will be Malwarebytes Anti Malware A-Squared free SuperAntispyware (a really good proggie) Avira Anti virus The virus I had (Windows Anti Virus Pro), sounds just like yours, symptoms the same. You have to run the programs I listed but it tries to block you doing so, in at least two ways 1) It checks the name of the program you are trying to run 2) It blocks most programs from running from 'startup' or double clicking desktop. Try first rebooting in safe mode. Reboot your machine and press and hold F8 then select safe mode with networking. Open the command prompt. (Start....Run....'command') Now go to the application you are trying to run. Drag and drop it into the command box. If you don't know how to do this, shout. This will cause the program's executable to be listed in the command line, you just press 'return' to run it. This may take a few attempts. You will need to run the softwares a few time before they clean it up. Once one anti virus program seems to have worked successfully, go to 'System Restore' and attempt to restore to when you know the computer was clean. If you cannot do this, then you must turn Sytem Restore 'off'. This entire process is a lot easier if you can get files on to your pc 'externally', from a cd/dvd or a usb storage device like a smartphone. I used my smartphone's wifi with my router and got my programs that way, then cabled them across to PC. The virus will stop you downloading them from websites. Once clean, you must change all your sensitive passwords. These programs have been logging your keystrokes. Try that first. Good luck. Can you download files from your email account, if you want I can email the antivirus progs to you.
I had a look at your list of tasks. Normally this virus you have is running in task mgr as a number like 9098796, you don't have obv. Some of these processes will be used by Windows to run and if you stop them Windows will crash, but doing this won't be totally fatal. Some tasks that are critical cannot be unloaded because Windows might block their removal. The virus writers are aware that you may attempt to remove processes from taskmgr so put them there with common sounding names like svchast.exe. What I ended up doing was just deleting tasks, starting from ones that didn't sound like common windows tasks. This is a good place to start but at the end of the day the virus may make this hard for you to do and you'll still need to delete the virus files and registry entries from your hard drive by running the antivirus programs I mentioned. Title: Re: trojan/virus infection ???????helpppppppp Post by: G1BTW on September 09, 2009, 03:41:07 PM was excellent in safe mode,, so what is it i need to do again....... Start off just holding a ball in each hand. Run all the scans in safe mode. Reboot in safe mode and run them again. Reboot in normal mode. Run the scans. It takes ages, but it's the only way. Make sure all the scanners are up to date before you start too. Title: Re: trojan/virus infection ???????helpppppppp Post by: cia260895 on September 11, 2009, 08:01:24 PM well he's got malwarebytes and spybot onto the lappy and they are running their scans.....

Title: Re: trojan/virus infection ???????helpppppppp Post by: G1BTW on September 13, 2009, 10:28:17 AM all is well thanks have got Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware & Spybot - Search & Destroy what is malware btw? what else do you recommend? Good stuff. I'd change any critical passwords (pokers, paypal, banking, email) after you've run the following scans in case the malware recorded it and sent it on. Malware I think is a kind of generic term for viruses that have evil intent, like trying to steal your data or damaging your machine until you buy some phony software. The other softs I would get are Avira http://www.free-av.com/ And Superantispyware http://www.superantispyware.com/download.html This one seems really good, picks up some stuff missed by other detectors. I'd be interested in hearing others suggestions on anti virus programs tho. I did use a paid for proggie once (zomg!), Norton Anti virus, but it missed some stuff and slowed down my system too much. Freeware ftw! gl mate Title: Re: trojan/virus infection ???????helpppppppp Post by: weller001 on September 18, 2009, 12:50:22 PM I would recommend 'combofix' for helping with spyware infections.
this is one of the most effective little programs ive seen yet. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix This is a tool that you run manually if you find your'e pc is infected , you would obviously still need to be useing Virus software and have a firewall of some sort. |
