Title: Mastermind
Post by: G1BTW on September 04, 2009, 08:21:10 PM
What's your chosen specialized subject?

Choose carefully, we'll ask you questions by googling (you can't obv)

You're IN until you give a wrong answer. You have 2 passes. You can object to a ruling, which will be ignored, per RSQ.

PASS lol I liked the variation while I knew the answer.

Contestants can enter whenever they like, I don't think it has to be serial

My specialist subject. Assuming I pass the final audition, having passed one

"Football stadium designs of Archibald Leitch"

Fascinating subject, Leitch was a protestant Glaswegian who owned a firm of engineers, and from the turn of the 1900s until the 1930s designed and built stadia or stands in stadia at over 40 English and Scottish grounds

Eight of his stands survive, most notably the main stands at Ibrox, Fratton Park and one side of White Hart Lane and Goodison

Good subject - hope it gets through.

Picking the right specialist subject is key - you need to get away with as narrow a subject as possible, so there's less to learn.

I remember on one recent series some idiot picked 'British history between the two world wars' - ie 'anything that happened in Britain between 1918 and 1939'.

He didn't do too well.

the Street stand in Sheffield, brammall lane...see before and after photos on my diary

the Sentinel works that Laz refers to is the oldest surviving Leitch building, and Glasgow's first ferro-concrete construction

Still there today, but sadly lies derelict, grade A listed

It's under threat

In 1995 an application to demolish the building was submitted to Glasgow district council by Strathclyde regional council in connection with the proposed M74 extension. Following advice from Historic Scotland, however, it was accepted that the demolition of the building was no longer required in connection with the extension of the motorway and the application was withdrawn.
