Watching the hand where Mark Goodwin bizarrely had the clock put on him in the middle of a massive pot by a Spaniard in Barcelona, made me realise what a bizarre rule it is.

It's the only rule where another player can arbritrarily decide to screw your decision making process, even if they're not in the hand. What do people think?

I dont see how the dealer in this sort of situation doesn't say sorry sir it's been 2 mins 30 and look at your stack size. be quiet. you say it again? i kick you in ze nuts as formal penalty.....

Yeah, in fact, I think one of the problems with the clock is that the dealer actually very often doesn't do anything at all.

Whenever, the clock is called, it's often much longer than a minute of confusion, as it takes a couple of mintues for the dealer to get with it and call the floor over.

If a player calls a clock it's at the dealers discretion to determine if it's been long enough for the game and situation. If it's been too long, then 'FLOOR', you have 1 minute sir. If not it should be 'KAPOW' KIK IN DE NUTS be quiet pls sir your right to call clocks is revoked for 5 minutes.

I thought Mark did incredibly well to keep his cool, when the Spanish guy had very obviously made his decision about 10 times tougher.

At the DTD £300 about 2 months ago Ade Bayo called the clock on me after about 1 minute in a huge pot for stacks.

After, when I pulled him up on it he said 'yeah I wanted to influence your decision'.

This was from a guy who's been playing the game years. Some people just have no idea of what etiquette is.

I think there should be a rule made as to what constitutes a reasonable amount of time as sometimes players abuse having time on the bubble to just delay their decisions for ages.

It's a horrible spot, but I think his only mistake is the flat call before the flop. Surely it just has to be a ship or fold before the flop?

Yeh pre isn't good but once you do do that and put that much in and then he reps AA or QQ that checked the flop after small 4 betting pre. and goodwin has AA and an A out there. What did he call AK pre to hit?

I did come out with a good line to him at the DTD £300 though.

When he was telling the whole table how he was the most profitable small stakes live tournament player in the country I simply replied, "You're talking to the wrong audience, none of us play small stakes mate". I was quite proud of that.

Shame by sfd missed vs his top pair for the world.

Yeah, it was actually nowhere near as bad as our man Ade. But given the size and situation of the pot, it seemed bizarre for someone not involved to call the clock after just 2-3 minutes. Once that minute is on you, I find that any clear thought goes out of the window, and it became impossible for Mark to do much but pass.

The thing is, he's allowed to get away with all that shouty nonsense at the Gushot/International, because they are scared of losing his custom, but he thinks he can do it everywhere. Fortunately, some Establishments are run a little better.

We had a run-in at Gutshot one day, he was giving it all the usual gobby stuff, & I told him to grow up, & he got a bit tetchy about it. Afterwards, he came & explained that, away from the Table, he was a nice bloke. He seemed quite sure of his facts.

I agree completely, I think Carter's line is actually pretty bad. If he had aanythingon a flop of Q109 hh, even as strong as a set, he would surely have to bet it. So, by checking the flop and betting the ace turn, he's surely only repping the same hand as Mark.

Carter doesn't like the flop and is c/f since 68s somehow didnt smash the flop, how unfair. That flop looks great for MG's range. The turn is his only stab but since MG checked back and either has AK or like QQ/JJ maybe a confused and misplayed pre AQ? Carter isn't firing again on the river  into what MGs range looks like after calling turn with that psr. I think MG should shove the turn though now he's got there like that.

Shame how poker sometimes turns nice people into idiots.

It means "avoid." So, if you "fade" some outs, you avoid them.

It's why all these kids are so good at poker, they know how to fade.

Carter is obligated to bet turn when its the A and MG checked. But it's prob bad unless he thinks he can be defending light deep which I dont think he would do. MG should shove the turn to take it down there without showdown with so much in the pot.

err, not true at all tony. he was perma banned from the gutshot long before they closed/moved and has afaik only ever played at the international twice in the year it's been open

you quite often make a post about something bad that's happened in a card room and ask us 'when did you last see a penalty given for this in a uk cardroom?' or similar and my answer is always that it happens at the international. crap that used to be tolerated no longer is and penalties are handed out regularly as well as bans for persistant offenders

he got a temp ban, was then allowed back on probation during which he behaved exactly the same and got the perma ban. you probs saw him in the brief time he was allowed back

It's true, I've not been there for some time. There was a bit of a discrepancy, shall we say, between the Chip Counts & the Prize Pool in a Rebuy one night, & I decided that was that, & I've not troubled them since with my custom. In fairness, that would be 3 or 4 years ago, whilst they had the "big room" (& very nice it was) next door but one.

The interesing thing about the Gutshot is the number of top top players who all started off playing there.

watched it yesterday, really like how goodwin went through it. Pity he was called the clock on, monster pot for himn otherwise.
