There is no doubt the kid is an amazing poker player.

He was banned from every casino in England for arguing that he wouldn't take his hat off in a casino to such an extent that he got rude, abusive and threatening.

Then someone (I think Eddie Hearn) gave his word that he would behave more appropriately so he could play the EPT.

How long did that last? 2 days? Before he thought he was so important that he didn't have to pay for a sandwich and again became rude and abusive.

I can only hope when he's 40 he shivers with embarassment when he remembers his current behaviour.

Heat one was won by Luke Schwartz, who secures himself a place at the final table. The runner-up was Christian Schafer, an online qualifier from Germany . The tournament start was held up yesterday after Schwartz was refused entry to the Palm Beach Casino and he was only allowed to step foot in the building after tournament organizers provided him with an escort at all times. Talks are now ongoing to allow the controversial high stakes player back in the building on Thursday for the final but nothing is confirmed as yet. The casino ban is thought to be the result of his recent refusal to pay for a sandwich at EPT London.

A PartyPoker.com spokesman said: “We hope that Luke will be able to take his seat at the final table but we have no guarantees as yet. In retrospect, perhaps Luke should have paid for the egg sandwich at the EPT – imagine if the casino ban costs him the chance of winning the $250,000 first prize? He could end up with serious egg on his face.”

Reports differ as to the quantity of sarnies that Mr Schwartz attempted to liberate. One security guard who claimed to have witnessed it told me it was a tray, another that it was a single item. The key thing that the hotel management had an issue with was the foul and aggressive verbal abuse that was dished out to their staff while this most pathetic of heists was carried out.
Shame on certain tv producers and online sites who pander to this twat. I really hope he is not allowed to take part in the final.

London – 14th October 2009 – The action at the partypoker World Open V continues! The Matchroom Sport organised event takes place from Sunday 11 October – Thursday 15 October 2009 in London . For the very first time, the action takes place in the prestigious Palm Beach Casino in the heart of Mayfair and spectators are welcome to rail and the crowds are growing every day. The action starts at 11am.

 

Hollywood actress Jennifer Tilly won heat three at the PartyPoker.com World Open V to join her partner Phil Laak at the final table, while ex-England football star Teddy Sheringham lost to internet qualifier Jan Veit heads-up in heat four. They join Luke ‘FullFlush’ Schwartz in the final

Tilly, a WSOP bracelet winner, had to overcome both a tough field and a tricky overnight break in play to reach make it to last seven, where she’ll face a battle for the $250,000 first prize with her American pro boyfriend Laak, who took down heat two.

“I told Jennifer this is war!” said Laak.

“We’re really competitive so we better spend some time together now because we might not be speaking on Friday!” said Tilly.

It was as tough a heat as you could find with online star and pre-tournament favourite Tom “Durrrr” Dwan, triple-crown holder Roland De Wolfe, big cash game player Sammy “any two” George and Neil Channing – Tilly’s eventual heads-up opponent. Online qualifier Gustav Ekerot was the first player to perish and it was Durrrr who followed next, kicking-off Tilly’s run to the final when she picked up aces against jacks for the second time and the bullets held to leave the table six-handed minus Dwan. No sooner had the aces been put back in the deck, they were out the very next hand and Channing used them to full effect, with Josh Gould the unlucky man to have kings in that spot.

Channing was at it again when he knocked out fellow Londoner De Wolfe, with the short-stacked Roland pushing with 105 suited and Neil calling with pocket threes and hitting quads on the river for good measure. It was not long after that when Channing hit quad kings – but George did well to get away with A10. Sammy’s reward for that escape was to knock out online qualifier Robert Sherwood and take the chip lead. George raised with AK, Tilly called with A6 and Sherwood moved all-in with A7 behind her – Sammy snap called and Tilly got out of the way – the king ruled the board and Any Two was up to 1,218k, Tilly held 980k and Channing just 202k.

He pushed those chips over the line with Q4 and was called by Sammy with pocket nines – hitting a queen to double up. Channing then performed the same magic with AK against Tilly’s Q7 and doubled up again to hold over 800k.

With Channing the chip leader – he took an early crack at Tilly with his K8 against her A8 – Channing hitting a king on the flop but Tilly’s prayers for an ace on the river coming true and moving her to 1,000,000 in chips. Had Channing won the hand, Tilly would have gone and Sammy would have had at least a runners-up spot but George was the bubble boy in this heat, moving all-in with AK and getting called by Tilly’s pocket threes – the board coming K3Q2J to get us heads-up.

Tilly held the chip lead and it is one that she converted into victory, steadily building her stack before getting the best of an action board when the duo held seemingly innocuous cards. It read 23K26 with short-stack Neil holding 42 when Tilly moved in with 54 – Channing made the call that sees Jennifer progress through and Neil have another go in the runners-up heat.

Before they finished their tussle, online qualifier Jan Veit won through to the final after seeing off former England and Manchester United striker Teddy Sheringham heads-up in heat four. Sheringham made the first moves of a cagey heat when the blinds hit 5/10k – first knocking out Simon Craig, then seeing off PartyPoker.com in the Sky winner Johannes Nord Jorgensen, beating his pocket queens when his AK hit an ace on the flop. Sam Trickett was the third player to fall, getting it in good with a pair of sevens again Veit’s AQ and staying in-front on the flop before Jan rivered two pair to end Trickett’s tournament. Double WSOP bracelet winner Scott Fischman completed Teddy’s hat-trick, shoving with pocket sixes and running into Sheringham’s kings and Fischman was gone when both men missed the board.The heat was suddenly moving along at great pace and we were three-handed going into the 20/40k level with Alec Torelli the unfortunate victim. He took a shot at Veit with J9 when Jan moved all-in, only for Veit to turn over the red aces. That left Torelli with just over 100k and moments later that was down to nought, Alec pushing with K2 and Sheringham picking up a pair of eights to go three-handed with over one million in chips.

But the 20/40k level was not kind to the striker and as the blinds edged towards 30/60k, he bled off a portion of his stack to Veit in two hands with nothing against two pair and top pair and it was Jan who now moved over the one million mark. He remained dominant going heads-up with Sheringham after WSOP November-Niner Antoine Saout, who ran into trip nines to be out on the bubble. So Veit had the chip lead and it wasn’t long until he had them all – Teddy pushing his in with 102 and running into AJ, with Jan hitting a jack for good measure to move into the final with Teddy joining Channing in the runners-up heat.

A PartyPoker.com spokesman said: “The final table is shaping up to be one of the strongest and liveliest in the events history. Phil Laak, Jennifer Tilly and Full Flush aren’t exactly the shy and retiring types! We’re expecting a great crowd on Thursday night.”

Oddly, the thing that most caught my eye was Kara Scott getting the Presenter gig.

She joined Poker night Live knowing nothing about Poker, & mot much about Presenting, but she's trying to build a career, & has really worked hard at her game, & her Presenting skills.

From PNL, she went to Sky Poker, thence to 'Stars, then moved up again, & got the WSOP-E gig (covered by ESPN) recently, & is now getting some of the Matchroom stuff.

I fancy she'll wow the Yanks, too, & get the American WSOP gig, too.

Grand to see someone apply themself, & to see hard work pay off.

It does not come naturally to her, either - but she does all her research diligently. And it shows.

The latest news sees Ambassador of Poker Mike Sexton and newly signed PartyPoker grassroots pro Bodo Sbrzesny make the final table. Mike overcame online qualifier Daniel Drescher heads-up.

In recent minutes, Bodo has come through the runner-up heat, beating online qualifier Patrick Funke. The heads-up was dubbed the ‘Funke Bodo’, in tribute to nightclub ‘The Funky Buddha’ that is opposite the casino. Talking of funky buddhas, ‘Mad Monk’ Andy Black is also at the final table - joining Phil Laak, Jennifer Tilly, Austrian online qualifier Jan Veit and Luke ‘FullFlush’ Schwartz. Organisers are hoping for no trouble when Schwartz turns up after he found himself barred from the casino when he arrived for his heat on Sunday.

 

A PartyPoker spokesman said: “The final table line-up is fantastic and is undoubtedly the strongest and likely to be the most entertaining in the event’s history. Equally, & as you know, there's no such thing as a free meal. Which is probably a bit hard for young Luke to grasp, given his developmental issues.

The hotel makes its money from selling expensive rooms, food and drink.  Your theory applies to casinos, not hotels, which was where this happened.

Did the hotel get a % of the juice? Or a fixed fee from the EPT?

No, but they got 250+ rooms for at least 5 nights each at £166 per night, plus all the food and beverage sales they could muster and internet access at something like £15 per day per room.

Hotels which charge for wifi which is basically free to provide are just highway robbers.

In my experience it is 4star+ hotels that do this as well, as their clients are more likely to swallow it.

Yes - cheaper hotels are more likely to give cheap/free wifi than expensive ones.

Of course, this revenue stream will die with the rise of dongles.

So why is stealing a sandwich from these robbing bastards such an outrage? Fair play if he did get a whole tray.

That was the defence argument of those guys that did that jewellers in London.

Whatever one thinks about the high prices that the hotel was charging, the abusive and confrontational way that he talked to the catering staff during the incident was not on.

Luke was barred for the best part of a year, prior to the EPT coming to London (for, you guessed it, being gratuitosly rude and abusive to a member of staff who had asked him to remove his hat while on the gaming floor). He had his bar lifted before the festival so that he could play in the EPT, on the condition that if he misbehaved, his ban would be reinstated permanently and across the Grosvenor estate. He knew the consequences of his actions would result in him being barred again and surprise surprise he broke his promise, caused an incident and got rebarred. Standard.

talking of gettin banned. i know of a guy who got banned from grosvenor and the next time he attempted to gain entry to gala he was refused and told he had to get bk into the grosvenor before he would be allowed bk into gala. would anyone know why this would happen ?do they have a list they share? also the individual received letters from aspers also sayin he would be refused entry aso dont waste therre time attempting to get in. any advice i can pass on to what he can do to gain entry again etc etc would be aprciated

It's a national bar. The casino companies do share information on such individuals. Particularly to protect their interests against thieves, cheat teams and particularly violent or aggressive individuals.

I don't know the circumstances of the situation, but obviously he needs to get himself back in the good books by making reparation for whatever it is that he has done.

To take this further, to get 2 laptops connected to the Wifi from the same room you need to pay twice.  You'd think if 2 people are in the same room using the same connection but on different laptops they would just be charged once or maybe Im expecting too much!

Completley impartially, she's a terrible interviewer though, no skillz at all. Mind you trying to get blood out of a stone with Pob.

Once one person has paid for the wifi the other person can just wireless/bluetooth connect across to that laptop and share the internet connection? Is possible?

Anyone watch Late Night Poker last night? I knew in advance it would be Schwartz against Feldman heads up and really really wanted to watch it, now I have seen it, it just looked like a pair of pissed amateurs who havent played live much, playing in a home game.

Thought it made pretty good tv tbh.

I thought Fullflush was pretty funny on LNP last night.  Too good to be flipping, his whole, "Im all in, you call ok what you got?" rant and then the Feldman bashing later  lol

I found Fullflush pretty entertaining to watch. Yeah, he's arrogant and the rest of it but he does make it interesting.

I quite liked the hand where he folded 78 (2 pair) to the qualifier.  WP Miss. And his 'I'm too good to be flipping' was brilliant.

FullFlush pwned the table.  He may well be a tosser but he is very good at poker.

to use a FFism; what was really 'gay' was the fact that Feldman didn't stick up for himself on this.  He insta called with KK and said something like 'spose i call' in a sarky trying to be funny kind of way.  Goodwin got carried away and made a bit of an arse of himself to deflect from the shite shove he just made and Feldman just sat there saying nothing.  He should man up and strap on a pair!!

FF is funny but too arrogant IMO, he needs to tone it down - someone is gonna smack him eventually.

I think I quite like this Fullflush character. Reminds me a bit of Ali G. After he won the way he high-fived the td and just trapped leaving Feldman staring quietly at the felt was com.

I find this whole thing pretty interesting.

It feels like there are not many people who would disgaree that this guy is a self-obsessed clown.

At the same time, presumably few people would disagree that this guy is one of the most, and probably the most, skilled poker player in the country at the moment.

"Character" is  a word used very loosely in poker, but if a character is measured by how many viewers he attracts, this guy is unfortunately quite a big character.

So: is it a shame that the best player we have is probably the most ill-mannered and the most arrogant? Or is there enough about it to make it a good thing?

If it is a simply a bad thing, surely we should stop taking any interest at all in this guy's self-love?

Is he really the best player we have? I'd just say he is the one we hear about the most. Anyone who plays the nosebleeds is going to be amongst the best, and although they are all crapshoots there is obviously some merit in the fact that he has final tabled three TV tournaments this year. But at the same time he notoriously ducks playing some players who challenge him (But sticks around to slag them off), is known for hitting and running when he makes a profit and has been accused several times of being a bit crooked.

Richard Ashby is up way more than him this year, and no doubt last year, but he goes about his business much more quietly and professionally. I guess it all depends on how you define the 'best' really.

I actually think this guy's personality is indicative of a good poker player. The trouble is he bares those characteristics too openly whereas most of us bury them beneath basic social etiquette. The essence of great poker is thinking you're better than your opponents, that you are the best, that you have an edge. You should be hungry to beat the hell out of the other players and rejoice in their losses. Most people are good at hiding those thoughts...but that's pretty much what we want to be happening when we're playing poker.

I mean experienced campaigners like Goodwin and Colclough could easily intimidate a much younger player in a live 6-max game like that. This kid did well to be the one getting under their skins instead imo. Sure, socially he's an ass, but what's the rules about being life-bad in poker? Multi-tabling is obv gonna make you life-bad. I think it's ok to have that element in poker because it tests your own patience and your own character. I'd object if he behaved like that in e.g. a post office though.

Not if the young player has seen them play before.
