Whats the saddest thing you've done in the past whilst playing football manager?

When i was like 14/15 i used to interview myself before and after big games. I also always used to read the teams out to myself and let out a fake cheer for each players name before each match. That was when i took Scarborough from the conference to 8th in the Premiership tho (huge brag).

My friend Marc Steele (Steelio on blonde) used to have a sheepskin coat which he would dress up in before big games, he called it his "managers coat".

And Richard Hare, whom many of you will know from here as "ChipRich", once drove his Dads car around his village after winning the F.A Cup, stopping at regular intervals with a large vase belonging to his Mum, kissing it and raising it into the air.

I've never done any of the above, but I will be..

I remember when i was 14/15 i used to stay up late til like 5ish playin cm, My dad use to work late and when he walked past my room i always had to cover the computer screen up to stop the flashing whenever there was a goal. For some reason i was always Juve and the black and white flashing made it so much worse!

Also for about 6 months when i first got into CM i use to play the games at super slow speed cos i thought that was the only speed, that was until one of my m8s at school told me to press the space bar a few times.  :)

I used to love CM, spent hours of my life playing that game. I have officially retired from the game as I would never play poker.

The Chiprich story is the greatest, I was dev'd when he denied it.

These days i just restrict my playing to network games with my housemates. There is a lot of pre and post match interviews.
I qualified for the Champions League last season as West Brom and used to play the Champions League music on European nights to wind up the others.

When i was 14/15, before CM or FM was even invented, i used to play a game called Football Director on the Spectrum.
Every time there was a goal, i would re-inact it on my landing using a baloon and my bedroom door as the goal  ;ashamed;

its possible but hard work doing it with a couple of people let alone 20 due to trying to get everyone online at right time etc etc

I spent a huge chunk of my younger days playing Football Director as well.

Sometimes when a game was being played I used to cover up the side of the screen which my team (QPR) were on, and watch the game only seeing goals scored by the opposition. Once the game was over and it was 'Ipswich 1' (or whatever) I'd be calling out for two QPR goals before I took the piece of paper away to see how we'd done.

I have to admit that i did this as well!  But i used to move the piece of paper up slowly to see what minutes i had scored in.

My mate once rang me up at 1am to tell me he had been offered the everton job after getting rushden and diamonds into the championship, asking me whether to take it or not. At this time he had a very attractive 21 year old girlfriend in his bed and he was on the phone to me about this. I advised him to turn his pc off and nail his missus.

He took the Everton job in the end.

Downside of living in/near Aberdeen

I think this was the version we played lots of when I was working at Hastings Direct.

CM and TOCA, kept lots of statistics and records for every season we played.

I wrote them all up in a state of the game analysis and report at the end of every 10 seasons - had it nicely bound by the repropgraphics people.

I'm pretty sure that's what the Managing Director had in mind when he set up the statistics department :D

Just got my copy, went to a GAME slightly further away since it opened at 9 and the one close to me opens at 10am.  3 of us at the door for it opening all waiting for FM  lol.  Got a FM2010 notepad too which is pretty cool but Ill probably never use.

i remember when it first started, back in about 1997, i got the game and thought it was amazing. At the time i was working as part of a team of about 20 programmers. i mentioned this new game, and of course everybody started playing it. over the next two months productivity went through the floor, as everyone was up virtually all night playing this game, and then for the short time they could stay awake at work the next day, the would spend discussing tactics, players etc.

Eventually the management banned all talk of the game, and told us in no uncertain terms what would happen if we didnt stop pulling all nighters playing the game...

After winning promotion to the championship with my Leeds team i was very geenrously given £4.6m to spend by Sir Ken. Selling Becchio for 900k got me upto £5.5m, then i unleashed the spending.

Just bought this game today, it's really good by the looks of it.

It will run better on my PC than my laptop so will have to wait till I get back to Nottingham so it won't be so jumpy when playing matches.

Just beat Spurs 6-1 away from home, and then was browsing the Football Manager forums coz i was annoyed that the game was too easy, they all said that you have to download the patch and it makes it tougher,

i didnt have the ptch downloaded as got the game 2 days before release day etc.

Heaven, me and Brent started a network game

Picked 6 teams out that got predicted 9th-14th, and picked them out of a hat for who we'd be.

I got Blackburn, he got Bolton, should be fun. Neither of us got any £ to start though.

Start of the season soon, cant wait for 1st game vs him.

com, ive started with 3 draws...2 away, 1 at Arsenal 1 at Burnley and a home draw to Wigan.

BH got 1 win and 2 losses.

Big game is in 10 games time [  ] gl BH.

i got a little peed off with database being too small even with 17000 players
with 8 nations meaning if i got anyone outside of those nations they would get capped no matter how crap
eastwood had a cypriot full internationals and a portuguesse U21 (who was only 18)
so starting over added every player with a national rep in europe so got 89000 players in game
game speed has gone from 5 stars to 1 star

sickkkk. In our network game, 2 games to go and im safe in about 12th position (Blackburn) and Bh (Bolton) in 17th 1 point ahead of Pompey in 18th.

glgl. Hope he stays up because, if he goes down might get sacked & this will have been pointless!

He gets a home draw to Villa and Pompey fail to win their last 2 games, he stays up.

Played my 1st game last night decided to be man city buy ashley young,david silva and arshavin.Sat and played for 9 hours all i need to do last game off the season is beat hull away to win the league it's half 2 got work in 5hrs but guna be worth it when i bink the lge 1st season.Go 1 up but they equalise in 60th min fk,I get a pen in 78th min haven't missed one all season keeper saves it norrrrrrrr i got the match speed on slow........ rebound falls to Adebayor GOOAAAAAALLLLLLL gtfi totally chuffed "wer guna win the league wer guna win the league...."then Fagan 88th min scores a wonder goal on the volley FK FK FK FK abs dev to make matters worse i obv go all out they score again and i end up finishing 3rd on goal difference FMEL

I played him 2 games earlier and he was on the verge of the sack, but he got a battling 2-2 draw away at Ewood Park then he lost the next away at Arsenal which sealed it.
Would have been incred to beat him in the game that made him get gg'd but nvm.

He has just been offered the only job going, MKDONS, but will sensationally turn them down as he absolutely hates them as they stole the dream that IS, Wimbledon.

Tells me he has to go down to the lower leagues as he hasn't got what it takes at the moment to cut it with the big boys, but will see me back in the Premiership in a few years.

No one ever be Bolton. They have terrible terrible players, and all are rated by the scouts as Championship level players except Gary Cahill.

They also had a £0 transfer budget. I did do terribly though to get the sack and i am extremly embarrassed.

Rater than quit the game though and start again as Rich suggested, i want to prove to the world that i have got what it takes to be a successful football manager, and i wish to do this by taking the job at Leyton Orient and masterminding the first period in their history of top flight football.

Its not going to be easy, i've just taken the job and we currently lie 21st in league One, my first priority is to keep them in the League One and i have 5 months to do so.

The Chelsea transfer ban is not a fixed fixture in the game because it was up in the air irl when the game was being finalised.

Ok, been a while since an update

Me and Brent decided to leave our network game for a while and start our own norm games.

I decided i wanted a challenge of taking a tez team all the way to the top.

I took over Burton Albion, predicted 24th in League 2 and had bout 20k transfer Budget.

1st season was really tough and just stayed up with a game to spare, ended up 22nd.

Next season i got some decent freebies in and was still predicted to battle bravely against relegation, but i wasnt having any of that and ended up winning League 2, with 3 games so spare. The transformation was incred, again with small budget of about 15k this time.

Next season in League 1, expected to struggle relegation again obv.
This time i got 14k transfer budget so had to wheel and deal in the market. I get in Harewood and Pericard on frees, Somma from Leeds cheap and the rest is history. Pericard scored 32 in all comps and Harewood 38! Ended up getting promoted to the Championship, incredible scenes!

Im worried theyve gone too far too quickly, and could get stuffed in Championship, especially as we still have no money to get some decent players in.
Got offered Spurs job a bit ago, but turned it down as i aim to take Burton Albion all the way.

Planning on staying in all weekend and catching up on entourage/dexter etc and playing fm still deciding who to be either Arsenal,toon,spurs or some other team i fancy at the time

Started with Bradford and won the league in my first season! Brought in some excellent loanees and some freebies and have just started off the new season!

Brent and I started a network game today.

We chose the MLS for something different, its a pretty good league (drafts/wage caps/play off style league)

Im LA Galaxy and Brent is Seattle, we both have mid table media predictions.

My wage is capped at 32k a week and i have a xfer budget of 240k. I pretty much stayed with the same team except for some golden oldies that i got on frees, but still dominate the MLS:

Sol Campbell
Bolo Zenden.

We only played a few hours tonight as BH was ill/tired/dead/ftops

I only bought in Henri Saivet who is class and sold Lucas, Voronin, Cavalieri, Dossena and some shitty reserve players. Been playing 4411 and surprise of the season for me has to be N'Gog.

This summer (2010) im gonna get my scouts sent around to see if i can pick any worldies.

Saivet is class, couldnt afford him as i splashed out on Rodwell.

Van Persie is crushing the premier lg for me

how do you afford their wages if your capped at 32k?

All the MLS players are on about £300-£1700 a week, my signings were all unemployed so accepted cheap wages.

the freebies in the game are unbelievable

Anyway whilst still pissed up this morning i was wondering what would happen to your manager if you went on for long enough? Would you die? Say you got to 89-90 years old on the game or summet! Would they just retire you? Would you complete the game? Would it end? Do you die?

Depends I think,,, how old are you when you start managing... say you start at 35 then the game is more likely to crash after 20/25 seasons anyway like the FM games always do... Never thought about it... May try now lol...

Then suddenly from out of the blue he gets a 12 year global ban from football, WTF. So i Wikipedied him and:

Currently in a game with Palermo, lifes pretty tough in Serie A. Hoping to push on for Europe in my second season after a 10th place finish in 1st season.
