Title: Heads Up Challenge
Post by: Robert HM on December 10, 2005, 01:32:37 AM
During the last year we heard mention of Heads Up Comps between Nottingham, Luton and Blackpool. It died a death and nothing was ever heard of them again. Perhaps it was hardly exhibition stuff and the teams were staffed by second rate Heads Up players, who knows.

Well good news! A new grouping of five stars has appeared on the scene, The Heads Up All Stars. Formed especially for the Brum Bash.

These highly trained players form an awesome team and ready to meet any other team in a Comp during that weekend. Yes, any team! It could be from the above mentioned villages or  indeed a team of girlies or Casino staff, there will be space and time to play in the hotels no doubt. It may be that a County team can be formed from the outlaying parts of England, i.e. scotland or wales.

Is there any team willing to risk humiliation and a smidgen of their bank roll? Probably not but the chance is there for the taking.

I'm sure we could rustle up a Scottish side. How many in a team?

Buy-in? What is the?

Or is it negotiable?

I thought we'd already established that................

Title: Re: Heads Up Challenge
Post by: Robert HM on December 10, 2005, 02:11:30 AM
OK, the fine print.

What is invisaged is each of the 5 team members each play a single HU match against a drawn opponent. So 5 individual matches in all.

Each member stakes £45 + £5 (the rake going to Poker4charity if all agree)
(the buy in IS negotiable if need be, the main thing is to have fun)

There is nothing stopping a team having a joint bankroll to reduce the variance.

2000 chips, blinds start at 25/50, 15 minute clock.

Once teams have been chosen there is nothing to stop other challenges, e.g. the scotch people against welch ones. This is added in case you felt the might of the All Stars is too great to overcome.

Any Scottish blondes going to BlondieBishBash fancy this? I assume Ironside is up for it, with me that makes 2, need 3 more.

Mr Tank - check the "acceptances" list - there are a whole load of Scottish blondes coming down. Between them, there must almost be the sum total of one English brain.

Title: Re: Heads Up Challenge
Post by: thetank on December 10, 2005, 12:43:23 PM
A fair bunch of us coming fae Scotland totaling around 10, fine and good, Scottish brains.

MikkyT coming down aswell, so there's your, not quite one, English brain.

Just putting the shout out asking which ones fancy the heads up comp. If more than 5 we might need to arrange some qualifying heats so as to earn the right to represent our fine country.

started reading the thread and thought "definitely outting a team together.
got to page 2 £50 is too much.
can it be between a minimum and maximum with a flat £25 per team rake for charity?
I would certainly like to put a team together for £20+£5

Title: Re: Heads Up Challenge
Post by: Royal Flush on December 10, 2005, 03:42:28 PM
Adam i think thats why you can pool the bankroll, very unlikely you will ALL lose.

Title: Re: Heads Up Challenge
Post by: AdamM on December 10, 2005, 03:53:39 PM
You've still gotta start with £50 a man

Title: Re: Heads Up Challenge
Post by: tikay on December 10, 2005, 04:33:15 PM

Point taken Adam, we will take a look at this. We may even be introduce a lower buy-in Heads-Up Comp, or satellites, or some means to ensure everyone who wants to play, can play.

Title: Re: Heads Up Challenge
Post by: Robert HM on December 10, 2005, 04:35:02 PM
Will you be trying for the Nottingham team then Adam, do I sense improvement, perhaps you could attract sponsorship?

This team has been put together at great expense. Transfer fees, training camps, international air travel, steak dinners and Guinness do not come cheap. However if you get yourself into the Nottingham team, or whichever, discuss it with them and PM me that way we save time and energy, oh and no polls.

I think you missed the concept of the joint bankroll and JD's post. Yes it would cost, say, £50 to buy in perhaps but only if all 5 of you lost would it cost you that much. But as I said get in a team and elect a captain to contact me. Money will not stand in the way of us all having a good time.

Without wanting to sounding patronising there are a group of people who, throughout the year, give us all great service and perhaps are rewarded less than they should. If the casino staff can get a team together and one of them contact me we can chat about setting up a game.

Title: Re: Heads Up Challenge
Post by: AdamM on December 10, 2005, 04:49:27 PM
I have a team and I'm confident of a win.
Notts B has a pool of about 10 players
£20+£5 is the challenge regardless of who your team is, we'll win

where would the game be played as the casino staff cant play the blonde comp so doubt any will travel to broadways

I understand there will be some coming and it will be open to broadway staff and other local poker room/casino staff to play.

the matches all took place and there was quite a rail. The matches were £300 a man if I remember correctly (Mr yong from the Notts team still has the trophy). Cant really argue about the 2nd rate heads up players though- how long did your match last again Tikay??

Hi dik

Perhaps I should have mentioned it to you first, apologies, the idea is to find a corner of the cardroom/hotel and play there. I don't want it to be extra work for you but wouldn't mind a few chips if we are in the card room. I suggested a structure earlier in the thread, in this post:

http://blondepoker.com/forum/index.php?topic=4523.msg100958#msg100958

I understand that staff can't play in the card room and perhaps not in the hotel (Marriot!)

Unfortunately i'll only be around for saturdays festivities so unless its going to be held on the saturday then there isn't much point of me trying to find 4 other members for team "monkey magic" - if it is on saturday then i could always join any team with vacancies if i cant rustle up four of my fellow primates into action.

could even be a proper cheeky monkey and get a spot in the girlies team - i'd love to spend the afternoon playing with <ahem - sorry> alongside the better looking members of blondepoker  :D :D

Matt, it depends on how many teams appear. It may be a sprinkling of challenges or, if enough maybe even a knockout comp, though I maybe a little adventurous with that idea. We'll see.

There's been a bit of discussion about who people want in their HU teams and a couple of names have been mentioned. We thought it fair to tell you who's in the winning All Stars team before you start drawing up team sheets:

Royal Flush
byron kincaide
snoppy
myself
and last, but certainly not least, elblondie

Still open for serious challenges though it would be understandable if you lot chickened out he he

i could beat your team playing all 5 of you HU at the same time and on a clock
if i lost more than 1 game i would be shocked but no way i would lose more than 2

Yes of course you would, absolutely.
(excuse me whilst I humour the deluded fish)

Very worried that you are not wanting to play in a team, do you just want to play with yourself?

Going back to bed so I can have a dream as well.

I'm sure they'll be plenty of Statler and Waldorf style comments from anyone watching you play Ironside.

Sorry I can't repeat the phrase, but "short and curlies" spring to mind.

Are you happy with the buy in and structure. If so we'll get someone independant to make a draw and he individuials can arrange to play as soon as possible over the weekend.

Ian, the girls team was made up of remnants from the bottom of a barrell and I see you are planning on looking for talent in an aquarium.

Robert i will save my talking for the table... the more you talk the harder the fall will be! Especially when your team fails to win a match...

Your taking lessons from flushy... the only thing he is helping you do is talk a good game!

Some fish BITE you know...

Were we ever able to rustle up a Scottish HU team ? Maybe not for the Blonde Bash, but maybe we should invite the "All Stars" up to "Jockland" for a 5-0 drubbing.

Do we give them the drubbing before or after we lose at the poker?

I don't think so, but they'll definately be at least 5 of us down there so we may as well.

I would be up for this if anyone will have me. If not I am sure I can rustle up a world beating team on the day.
