Title: The Each Way Stealing Money Thread
Post by: The Camel on December 02, 2009, 01:36:44 AM
Just for Ironside (because he wants to win some money) and Monkey Matt (because he thinks you can't win backing short priced horse each way) here's a thread where I will start with a grand and back horses each way in races with 5,8 or 9 (occasionally 10 too I suppose) runners and handicaps with 16 or 17 runners (possibly up to 20 at tracks where alot horses can be safely ignored due to the draw such as Beverley and Chester).

The better the bet is, the more we'll have on.

I can't promise I'll find all the good each way races, but will find enough to have made a nice profit by the end of 2010.

Should have started this a day earlier..

Just studying yesterday's card. There would have been 2 bets and two winners Glamorous Spirit (2.00 Lingfield) 4/1 and Lord Generous (1,20 Southwell) 11/8.

Curses!

Am i right in saying we pretty much just back the 2nd fave EW when the fave is odds on and the rest of the field is hopeless?

Pretty much although sometimes 3rd fav is best  and a little more science needed in 16 runner handicaps.

When at Uni and on days off I did a similar thing.

Started off with £10 with a mate and tried to get 17 horses to place in top 3 over a few days.  £10 would turn into £10k if you got 17 in a row right.  Needed odds of 1.5 approx on average to make is which is normally always a available on what Flushy mentions above.  Sadly I never made it but got to 11 or 12 a few times, but a mate of mine did it.

Nothing today.

If you were absolutely desperate for a bet Canadian Blaze 2.15 Catterick fits most of the criteria, but there are 2 or 3 too many runners to make it perfect.

I won't update this every day from now on, just when there's a bet.

Trigg is right, but anything up to £100 ew the bookies will sigh a little bit, shrug their shoulders a bit.

Only if you try and get £500+ on will you struggle.

That's not true for everyone though Mr Camel.
A lot of accounts are changed to win only, while others capped at, say, £25 each-way.
I haven't used any of my fixed odds accounts for ages but still wouldn't fancy my chances at being able to get £100 each-way on a second-fav behind an odds-on jolly.

Keith

I believe a similar system was used by the successful pro punter Alex Bird back in the day?

Always backed second favourites e/w in non-handicap stakes races on the flat, as long as e/w 1st three applied

I have his autobiography which I am trying to dig out with no joy so far that explains it

Shops are easily your best bet for this kind of bet.  Online they will cut you down very quickly although I did hear of a punter that was backing the jolly each way in races like this (which also has value on occasions) with Hills and lasted a long time.  Avoid BetFred and Corals shops in general and, if possible, spread it about a bit.  Below £25 e/w if okay at any shop.  They are also not great at understanding which races the advantages are in.  For example there are very few places that won't take a big bet on a 16/17 runner handicap but an 8 runner race with a 1/4 jolly and 9/2 second in is always going to be a struggle for anything more than £25 e/w and I have been knocked back for that before.

Chomps, I was mostly talking about the shops.

Obviously if you pound one account with this sort of bet on the phone or net you will quickly get knocked back.

Rich,

I wouldn't be surprised. Especially as in those days it was 1/4 odds a place all races.

12 runners just too many to make it perfect.

However at the off it was trading at 1.33 - 1.34 in the place market on betfair. Getting an each way bet on @ 7/2 meant you were getting 1.7 about the place part of the bet. So obviously it was great value.

I went to Catterick (had a tip for a horse in a nother race) and the on course bookies were offering 1/7th the odds a place on this race!

Keith is poker or sport betting more profitable for you?

Lifetime I am way further ahead at poker (problably won 3 times more playing poker)

But obv much more variance at poker than sports and horse race betting, had a couple of losing years at poker (this year would have been worst ever without wsope) but never had a losing year at sports.

Plus I enjoy sports betting more than poker except for the absolutely biggest tournaments of the year.

And the poker games are way way way harder than they were when I started.

You are obv a shrewd bettor (sp?) but do you have a lot more bets than you should have because of how much fun it is or is it purely a professional moneymaking attitude you take towards it?

Are my questions annoying?

Are you sure?

Shall I stop now?

In the old days it was very very easy to money gambling.

You could sit around and wait for a chance to make easy money just having a few bets a week.

Now the edges are very small and you need lots of bets with small profit margin to make money.

Remember all those corner bets I had on the weekend punting diary? Ten years ago I wouldn't have bothered (and they wouldn't have been offered), I was taking 10/11 about something I thought was 5/6 or 4/5, a pretty tiny edge and to overcome variance I have loads of bets.

You said something like you would never turn down an each way bet on a 5/2 shot.

This thread is to prove bets like that can be the best value offered by bookmakers today.

Bank: £1000

Bet: £50 e/w Brinscall 5.15 Wolverhampton 11/4 Skybet, PP and Stan J.

Think it's worth risking betting this early and keeping our fingers crossed there isn't a non runner because there is almost zero chance it starts as big as 11/4.

Old boy I knew used to do this.  4 horses, e/w trebles and accumulator, anything between 2/1 and 1/2 in 8-10 runner non handicaps.

place accumulator paid for the bet
3 winner was about 100% profit
all 4 up paid about 600%

He was better than me at getting all 4 in tho :(

It was perfect, but one of best contacts really really fancied the jolly and I didn't want to put up a horse which I didn't think was a decent value bet for the win portion (I priced it up at 7/2; sp 2/1)

Sorry :(

Anyways, the third favourite in today's race has less friends than the Kellster (out to 6/1 on bf) and ours is holding up nicely on the machine. So 5/2 is fine.

No last minute withdrawals plz.

The idea is you get near to the exact true odds of it winning, but you are taking 4/6 about a 1/3 chance in the place market. Anyone that says bookies want to lay these does not know what you are talking about and the minute you do a few of these YOU WILL get ur account severely restricted or limited unless you are an action junkie on other stuff. So find your most active account and try to use that to put the bets on, as it will make it less obvious and likely to be flagged up.

FYP

The horse will win about 30% of the time. If it does we win £150.

The horse will be second or third about 50%. We lose £25 if this happens.

Out of the frame (20%) we do £100.

It's all adds up to a great bet.

keith, any reason you didn't take lord fidelio yesterday at kempton? looked perfect for this but then I probs don't understand it

It was perfect, but one of best contacts really really fancied the jolly and I didn't want to put up a horse which I didn't think was a decent value bet for the win portion (I priced it up at 7/2; sp 2/1)

Sorry :(

ah, I see. I was on the winner, glad I didn't ask you about it first as you would've talked me out of it

LOL - the third favourite has drifted out to 20 on BF. Did it come out of the horse box with only 3 legs or something?

They've come for the fav, our horse holding steady.

Post by: bazzabhoy on December 03, 2009, 04:58:54 PM
everything on drift bar the FAV.......what about drift on court drinking?  out to 18 lol  from 3.5

Title: Re: The Each Way Stealing Money Thread
Post by: Dubai on December 03, 2009, 05:00:47 PM
The bigger the drift the more value you get on the place part of the bet. The horse drifted from 5-2 to 7-2 but its place odds only went from 1.33 to 1.37. Hence why bookies hate these bets.

Post by: Nico29 on December 03, 2009, 05:19:37 PM
Meh the 33-1 shot ran a blinder to place. No matter as they can't all win/place.

Def a bet that will make a profit long term anyway, the place part was worth about double the price offered in that market on betfair. Keep em coming keith please! Over a long period of time this could help every1 make a tidy profit.

Title: Re: The Each Way Stealing Money Thread

Well for doubters/non risk takers, you can simply secure a profit by laying both parts of the bet anyway.

I just dont see how youre gona be able to get these bets on tho for more than a couple of months.

I used to work in the industry, and for the firm i worked for all it would take is one £50EW bet in a bad EW race such as yesterdays and your account will be coded with things such as WARNING, CAREFUL, MONITOR, BAD EW BETS and your account will be like 0.99 and then a quick journey to 0.01 in no time at all.

And i know not every one is as tight as Skybet, but most are!!!

When I was at Blue Squirrel bets of £100 or less wenr pretty much unnoticed. I think you should be able to get £50 bets online ok for quite a while.

Also, I forgot to say, just in case of days like yesterday betting with BOG bookmakers is a good idea.

Camel, for example yesterdays 11/4 shot, would you have taken it at 5/2 or stuck ridigly to wanting 11/4?  I think some may snap up your tips even when it shortens drastically because 'a tips a tip'!!

These aren't exactly tips. There are purely maths bets. I will try and only put up horses I fancy and the price you should take.

I think 5/2, even 9/4 would have been fine yesterday, but 2/1 or less would have been marginal.

Best bet is to stick to the exchanges if you can get the value.

Once you become successful the whole bunch of bookies will restrict you to £5 win, 50p forcast blah blah close you down been there had that.

If all else fails you have to get on the road different cities, runners etc, but believe me it is extremely tiring.

Think there's scope for a bit of Blonde entrepreneurism here. I'd imagine quite a few folk without lots of online bookie accounts might be tempted by this, so a few affiliate links might be in order.

Ironside, get Tighty on the case.

I thought the point was that the bookies were huge place wise compared to betfair which represented closer to the correct price for a place ?

henrik

Exchange prices fluctuate its a matter of sitting there with fastest finger when you see the right price and they don't restrict you, ban you etc.

The secret is not getting involved if the correct value is not available, most punters think blow it i will take that price.

As Keith says, you're best off getting on in the high street bookies where you will be practically anonymous until you start spraying the pink notes about.

Even Blue Squirrel notice the bad each ways nowadays....

£50 each way Headsontheground @ 11/2 general (6/1 if you're lucky enough to have a sportingbet acct that accepts bets). 1.15 Cheltenham

There's definitely room for each way doubles and trebles with all the 16/17 runner hcaps today but I havent had the time to study up :/

I got £100 e/w Headsontheground without any trouble this morning at 11/2.

FWIW I have also had an e/w Lucky15 including this, Lidar in 335 Chelt, Tiger Hawk 1200 Southwell and Elusive fame in 250 Southwell.  Last two are probably close to  being place value too and a non  runner in either of those races would definitely mean they were value but the 3x odds one winner and other bonuses with the multiple made it +EV.

I meant to write £888.75  :D

I'm having a mind blank, how is £50 e/w @ 11/4, place odds 1/5 not 'returns £38.75' = -£11.25 from £900?

Ironically it is the marginal runners that cop and get me half of my stake back.  In these kind of bets ther three times the odds one winner in a lucky 15 is worth quite a bit because by multipying the advantage of the place parts we are getting better value and the three times the odds the win element if only one winner along with the 100%bonus if 4 winners means that the losses on the win element are reduced yet further.  Ofg course trying to find four runners can be hard although there are days when there are a lot of them and you have to perm them all up and it can get quite expensive.

Cross-posting from the Chelts thread as it is relevant here.  With this special offer, just waiting for Camel to bowl up and tell us which selection will be stealing money...

Couple of good offers on PaddyPower today.

1. Non runner money back on ante post markets.

2.  If Dunguib (odds-on jolly) wins the Supreme Novices hurdle all losing win singles are refunded.  (including the win part of ew bets, £200 max.) With 7/1+ bar, time for a decent punt...

230 sed Caerlavrock @ 11-4  is the other decent ew bet today, clear 2nd fav by a mile, and though it's only first two it's 1.33 to place on betfair and we are getting about double that.

Lol- the jockey almost gave me a funny turn there. Won a shade cosily imo. 7-2 sp again.

Nice result all round, quick fire dble ftw. :)

I have a treble running on this misaro@5-2 in the 240 linfield for a tidy sum, but that's my least fancy of the 3. The singles and doubles are up and thats the main thing, still the treble wld be a boommmm! :)

Feel bad not posting all 3 up when i first tipped the first there, just sick of giving out losers all the time. Confidence restored ill now start posting donkey after donkey.

I actually (aftertime alert-although i did say i fancied 3 others in my OP) have the world on a ew acca now going on one in the 415 sed, tempted to lay some off, will work out the sums, suffice to say it's the 2nd fav.

Didnt bother with the first one.
When it won, tried to get on the second one but forgot to finish putting it on, BETTING SUSPENDED sigh.
Then you slowroll us with a third winner ;)

Im off to have a cry  :'(

Sorry mate. Like i say i normally tip on here and havent been doing that well. Guess thats results based as the bets r mostly good.

I just thought this thread needed some tips/winners as its been left dormant.

Now do i lay off this 4 fig amount running on?

Judge the bet on its own price merits.  :D

what was your origianl bet

e/w lucky 15

e/w yankee,

or just big doubles smaller trebles and an acca?

Title: Re: The Each Way Stealing Money Thread

2 large singles ew first 2, small single 3rd ew, no single on this last 1. I did doubles, trebles and an acca all ew-pretty sim stakes , ive worked out that over 4 figs riding on the last 1 despite a nice profit on the day.

Ive lumped a bit on the fav to cover myself, with a few pennies on the rag.

But the main sweat obv is still being left on the greenbelt.

Come on u nag, 1 time plsssse :)

Hit the post the other day, was somewhat annoying. Today ive only really got one proper ew bet on. 210 hexham master fong@5-2 looks a nice bet, third fav 15.5 on betfair and after that it's rags aplenty.

Also in the 215 down the 2nd fav fearnwood girl looks a bit of a dirty ew 7-2 shot.

Urgh, master fong leads the whole way till fading near the line to finish 4th. Those ones really hurt, was matched at a low of 1.03 on betfair to place too.

215 one comes 2nd to the odds on shot.

Bit obvious but the first at Aintree tomorrow is pure filth.

Big Bucks 30/100
Tidal Bay 5/1
14s bar

Ladbrokes are doing 1/4 odds so you make a profit if (when) Tidal Bay places.

No idea how much they'll allow you to have on, but I'd imagine theres some shrewd money on it one way or another.

edit: Just checked and its max £200ew, well it is for this mug punter anyway.

Cheers chezzboy. A bit of interest in the goings on at Aintree should spice up my afternoon. Shoe shopping with the wife... sigh

Yeah good spot, that was a filthy race. Unfortunately the bookies prob had a word and there have been 2 withdrawls. Now it's just first 2 the places.

Tidal bay might still be a small bit of value on the place part, but it's not the same anymore. :(

Quite a few dirty ew races at taunton today, trip to the local bookies me thinks, sick of getting accounts closed by online ones.

So bent how these always end up down to 7 runners, Tidal would've been no good anyway....

How did you go on Nico?

FML m8. Was too lazy to go down to bookies so just left the first 2 races alone, basically trying to rebuild my image with certain bookies as i can't get many bets on online anymore, and some just close my accounts.

Anyway first two won at 9-2 and 8-1, were crazy races with the fav clear in both approaching the last, in both races the fav unseated at the last in insane fashion.

Seriously tilting at the wedge i'd missed out on i popped down the books for the last race. Was hoping for 5-2+ on this one, but it opened 2-1 and soon went 7-4, i try to be disciplined on prices so again just let it ride. Of crse that nag hacked up too.

Serious kkk today shlda been won, oh well. :(
