Title: What's the point, tikay? Post by: G1BTW on December 22, 2009, 11:53:11 PM Why do train points systems fail so frequently? What exactly is the mechanism involved in them?
We had 3 inches of snow today in Paisley/Glasgow and this was enough to smash the points to bits. Everything stopped. A 20 mile journey took me 3.5 hours. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/8427280.stm Please can you get your friends at the railway to sort this asap. k thx bye Title: Re: What's the point, tikay? Title: Re: What's the point, tikay? Post by: The_nun on December 23, 2009, 02:55:51 PM Various reports flying round work but I will stick to it passin 2 and there for the grace of the signal man. Well done that man. Tbh I never thought of the brakes being locked on hence no back up safty net of the tpws. And yes spads are very common but I personaqlly think they are brought to light more now because of all the on board data recorders we have on board these days. By heck years back the old hands would have got away with it. We had one last week one of ours spad at leeds gantry.

No - the exact opposite, in fact. Snow which built up around the ducts when the trrain was in open countryside in a very cold Northern France melted when it entered the warm tunnel, & the moisture/water which ensued "shorted" the power plants.
