Do you not find it slightly too big?(as is my main worry) what did you have before a 50", as i fear going from 32" to 50" might be a drastic jump.

My ex has exactly that one (I think, it's definitely a 50" Samsung).

I fitted it to her wall and she sits about 10-15' from the TV and it's fine size wise. A decent enough picture, especially on HD.  Not perfect when dealing with movement (e.g. footy), but fine for £650 (which is what it cost her), and definitely a bargain for £300.

Can you get any more for that price?

There were 2 available, he put one aside for me, and some other girl put one aside for herself.

If it looks too big for me, ill stick it on here for someone.

I watched Ronnie O'Sullivan drop a long blue dead weight into the baulk pocket on my 32".

My brother watched the same shot on his 50" and it stopped 18" short.

50" not too big in that room. In my old house I sat <10' from a 42" for 5 years or so, started to look small, so went for 50" and that was nice. Moved now, and sit maybe 12' from the 50", and frankly it's not big enough :D. That's a Panasonic 50PF10.

Once you've bought it, make sure you have a play around with the settings for contrast, sharpness, etc. If you can get hold of a HD calibration disc it's worth doing, or use the THX calibration stuff that comes on most Lucas films (Star Wars 1-3 deffo have it). They usually are set up for a shop out the box, so ridiculously high contrast and way too bright - a good plasma will give you way better colour reproduction than an LCD, but only if it's calibrated right. It'll take a while to get used to - if you've been watching TV on an LCD, you'll be used to people with somewhat purple skin without even realising it.

Damn good price for that.

Edit - just looked it up - it's not a FullHD model - I presume you know that? 768 lines rather than 1080. Still get the benefit from SkyHD, but not the full monty on Blu Rays, games, etc.

Thanks mate, i think this was all i was really looking for, someone to tell me i wasn't a twat for buy a 50" lol

As for not being 1080, i knew this anyway, was concerned at first but for £300 ill take 4x times better quality, than 5x.

Thanks for your post Rex

You were after some proper serious advice? You should've said.

I've got a 50" LG that's 4.5m from my viewing position and it doesn't look too big at all.

Mine's only a 768 as well but the picture looks great. Great set at the price.

As Rex said, unless you're watching stuff on Blu-Ray, you're not going to be missing out getting this instead of a 1080p telly.  Also worth remembering that the quality of football on the telly won't be great if it's two Scottish teams playing... ;)

Definitely agree with Rex about setting your telly up correctly.  Still amuses me when I go to people's houses and they have a fantastic telly but it's been set up terribly.  Doesn't matter how well specced the telly is if the settings mean the picture is to cock.

Dave, I install a lot of tvs, and imo top end Pioneer & Panasonics are great pictures but in all honesty the quality picture of Samsungs is excellent and for £300 its a bargain.
As for the 50" it will be fine, i got a 120" HD projector in my lounge and you will just get used to it love it.

Dave, where are you thinking of moving to?

Uddy, Tannockside ideally as its smack in the middle of my Folks and Janet's Folks. So easy for her to get out and about with the kids to her mums and sisters house near you etc, and not too far away from Angels Pub and the Windmill Pub !!

Somewhere near yourself, Renny or Pat was be the best option.

Was looking at Calderbrae's too

If so, we should get the TPT up and running again, for a laugh more than anything this time round.

Luckily enough my little brother got this box et for Xmas there, i can see the THX sign on the back of the pack, but when i put the disk in, there is no option to click on a THX Symbol anywhere to start the calibration?

Am i missing something Rex?

They usually are set up for a shop out the box, so ridiculously high contrast and way too bright - a good plasma will give you way better colour reproduction than an LCD, but only if it's calibrated right. It'll take a while to get used to - if you've been watching TV on an LCD, you'll be used to people with somewhat purple skin without even realising it.

Luckily enough my little brother got this box et for Xmas there, i can see the THX sign on the back of the pack, but when i put the disk in, there is no option to click on a THX Symbol anywhere to start the calibration?

Am i missing something Rex?

Sorry - not caught up for a couple of days.

Had to go and remind myself - it's semi-hidden. If you put in the main film disc of any Star Wars 1-3, go to "Language Selection" on the main menu, bottom right of that page is the "THX Optimiser". Basically takes you through contrast, brightness and sharpness calibration (and colour as well, but you need special colour filters for that one). Worth doing the first three at least to start with.

Once you've bought it, make sure you have a play around with the settings for contrast, sharpness, etc. If you can get hold of a HD calibration disc it's worth doing, or use the THX calibration stuff that comes on most Lucas films (Star Wars 1-3 deffo have it). cool, nice one mate.

I clocked the Colour filter specs in the THK store for $1.99, might try to get a pair in near future.

Funny how they sell the colour filter specs in the THX store, yet not the actual THX Optimizer disk lol??

If you want to go the whole hog, look for DVD/blu/HD discs called "Avia" or "Digital Video Essentials". Usually these come with the glasses/filters and go into much more calibration detail as well. But just getting contrast/bright/sharpness right can make a big difference.
