Title: O/T Proud to be British
Post by: suzanne on December 15, 2005, 07:14:29 PM
Be very  proud to be British
Because:
Only in Britain... can  a pizza get to your house faster than an ambulance.
Only in Britain... do  supermarkets make sick people walk all the way to the
back of the shop to get  their prescriptions while healthy people can buy
cigarettes at the front.
Only in Britain... do  banks leave both doors open and chain the pens to the
counters.
Only in Britain... do  we leave cars worth thousands of pounds on the drive
and lock our junk and cheap  lawn mower in the garage.
Only in Britain... do  we use answering machines to screen calls and then
have call waiting so we won't  miss a call from someone we didn't want to
talk
to
in the first place.

NOT TO  MENTION...
3 Brits  die each year testing if a 9v battery works on their tongue.
142  Brits were injured in 1999 by not removing all pins from new shirts.
58  Brits are injured each year by using sharp knives instead of
screwdrivers.
31  Brits have died since 1996 by watering their Christmas tree while the
fairy  lights were plugged in.
19  Brits have died in the last 3 years believing that Christmas decorations
were  chocolate.
British  Hospitals reported 4 broken arms last year after cracker pulling
accidents.
101  people since 1999 have had broken parts of plastic toys pulled out of
the soles  of their feet.
18  Brits had serious burns in 2000 trying
on a new jumper with a lit
cigarette in  their mouth.
A  massive 543 Brits were admitted to A&E in the last two years after opening
bottles of beer with their teeth.
8 Brits  were injured last year in accidents involving out of control
Scalextric cars.
And  finally.........
In 2000  eight Brits cracked their skull whilst throwing up into the toilet.

RULE  BRITANNIA!!

Only in Britain... do  people order double cheeseburgers, large fries, and a
DIET coke.

i have too as there is sugar in all there other drinks

Quote
Only in Britain... are  there disabled parking places in front of a skating
rink.

are you saying that the disabled shouldnt go skating?
let alone go curling

even wheelchair users skate and play ice hockey
and britian has the world champion "DISABLED" curling team

i know it was meant as a joke but jokes with factual errors in them lead people into the wrong sort of thinking

Sorry Ironside I didn't quite get the skating rink one and I meant to delete it.

no problem had this debate on THM site a year or so ago, people think that disabled parking should just be outside hospitals and doctors surgerys, there are many different reasons for using a disabled parking bay  and most of the disabled have fantastic social lifes too (if only i could get one)

i think the impressive bit is that one woman shouts HURRY HURRY  while 2 others chase a stone down the ice, brushing around it like a street sweeper on crack, then to top it off another woman with a brush stands in the target with broom in hand ready to sweep should she be needed ....  why cant the silly bints get with the times and buy a bloody vacuum cleaner :)

I could be a world champ at that, when i was in a relationship and the ex was hoovering as i was watching footy, I was always shouting HURRY HURRY ... or words to that effect :)

no winning a world cup gives you 4 years of bragging rights

the fact the english forget that and brag for 40 years is why 99% of the rest the planet want to beat the english and the reason why when not playing the english 99% of the world supports the team that is

good job scotland didnt qualify this year as i get 31 teams to support

Maybe 99% of the rest of Britain. Throw in Argentina and Germany. After that you're running a bit thin.

I wanna know why the scots hate the English more than we hate them?

Coz you're a bunch of arrogant jumped-up, has beens whos press lamast your sportsmen for not winning everything. If the nations of the world were all poker-pros England would be Phil Hellmuth. Bad winners and even worse losers. It's easy to despise the English because they possess these qualities. (Individually you can still be groovy though)

The scots are on the most part funky chickens who know our place in the world and are glad to take part. When we win, we do so with grace. (Perhaps a little bit ribing will take place if we win but it doesn't last long.) When we lose we get pissed and say hey-ho. (We don't smash up the town with big sticks like you guys are prone to) Our nation gets behind our sportsmen, we're don't disown them when they don't win.

As we're so fantastic and you're so pisch it's much harder for you to despise us than the other way around. I hope this helps.

It's not so much jealousy as shame. England have a lot of things that they could and should be proud of, on the whole though their attitude stinks and ruins their worldwide rep. We can sometimes be tarred with the same brush and resent this to the extent that we're rooting for the other guys come penalty shootout time..

The fact that you have never won anything in the first place may affect your sunny outlook. we of course have won everything and as such can have an opinion on these matters.

The US? They're our best buddies. Even in the sport we compete in the most (athletics) they respect us. I spoke to two huge US soccer fans this summer they love watching our league and support our teams in the Champions League.

Canada? I have family there. They're indifferent. To be honest most of them don't even know about our sports and they're the ones with family here.

Hmmm.... Western Europe hey?

The Portugese dont care whether we win or not unless they're playing us, they're very internal. All the people I know there could not only name our national team but also told me why each player was great to watch. No hate there I'm afraid.

The French want the rest of Western europe to lose, especially the Germans, not just us.

The Spanish DO care about having the best league in the world but in terms of our national team they're not bothered (unless we bring our black players to their shores). Beckham and Woodgate are well supported there. Owen was too. Benitez says everyone in Spain supports Liverpool as there second team because of the huge Spanish contingent. So do Spain want us to lose? Erm... I doubt it.

The Italians dislike every other nation when it comes to football!

Anyone else????

A lot of African people support England as their second team. (Many also support France)

Brazil and England have a huge mutual respect for each other.

Yeah the Aussies hate us - I'll give you that one.

Scotland's elephant polo team have won their second world championship in a row after beating the National Parks of Nepal team 7-6.
The tournament, now in its 24th year, saw eight teams and players from 11 countries taking part in Nepal.

Player manager Peter Prentice, who scored 25 goals in the tournament, was the Scots' star player.
