Title: EPT Monte Carlo thread Post by: TightEnd on April 23, 2010, 01:44:36 PM PokerStars is pleased to confirm that the EPT Grand Final in Monte Carlo has not been canceled following the chaos caused by the Icelandic volcano. The event will run from April 25-May 1 as scheduled.
Under normal circumstances, seats won by PokerStars qualifiers to PokerStars live events are not refundable or exchangeable. However, owing to the changeable travel situation in Northern Europe, PokerStars is providing 'EPT credits' for future events to players able to prove they cannot reach Monte Carlo by April 26. PokerStars is also allowing players who have won or bought a full package to Monte Carlo (including hotel) to give their hotel room to another player. Any high rolling blondes who are playing, please let us know I will update the thread as the event progresses Title: Re: EPT Monte Carlo thread Post by: GreekStein on April 23, 2010, 01:48:09 PM PokerStars is pleased to confirm that the EPT Grand Final in Monte Carlo has not been canceled following the chaos caused by the Icelandic volcano. Title: Re: EPT Monte Carlo thread Post by: The-Crow on April 25, 2010, 10:39:07 PM Just read this on a pokerblog
Unlucky Mr. Flushy 5.48pm: The Roumeliotis roll James Dempsey and Alex Roumeliotis both went deep last week in San Remo - and they may have played the odd pot against one another there. If so, it was Roumeliotis who learned the most about Dempsey's game as the Swede has just sent the English pro to the rail. Dempsey raised to 800 from mid-position and Roumeliotis made it 2,500 from the button. Dempsey called. It was the two of them alone to a flop of J♥5♣4♦ and Dempsey checked. Roumeliotis bet 2,900 and Dempsey now found the check-raise, making it 7,200. Roumeliotis called. The turn was the T♥ and Dempsey led for 16,000. Roumeliotis took a while, pondered, and then said: "Do you have king queen?" Dempsey didn't answer, but Roumeliotis moved all in, covering Dempsey. He was obliged to call. "You got it right," Dempsey said, and showed K♣Q♦. Roumeliotis had J♣9♥. Dempsey had outs, but the J♠ on the river wasn't one of them. Roumeliotis took it down and is up to about 120,000. -- HS Title: Re: EPT Monte Carlo thread Post by: The-Crow on April 25, 2010, 10:50:31 PM Found the latest chip count for level 9

Title: Re: EPT Monte Carlo thread Post by: pleno1 on April 26, 2010, 03:45:17 PM It's often said that the sign of a great player is someone that can lay down kings pre-flop and if that is the case then Moreira De Melo has entered that canon. The Dutch Olympian raised to 300 from the cut-off and was three-bet from the button to 700 by Haykel Vidal. Moreira De Melo then made it 2,000 and was swiftly five-bet to 7,000. Moreira De Melo sat and stared then pushed forward a total of 17,000. Vidal wasted no time in moving all-in for his 30,000 starting stack.
Moreira De Melo looked a little sick and asked Vidal: "Do you have aces?" "Yes, I have aces," replied the Spaniard. The Dutchwoman eventually folded kings face-up and was shown the bullets for her troubles. Moreira De Melo is down to 12,000. - lollll Title: Re: EPT Monte Carlo thread Post by: MC on April 26, 2010, 03:50:36 PM It's often said that the sign of a great player is someone that can lay down kings pre-flop and if that is the case then Moreira De Melo has entered that canon. 5.20pm: McCorkell larging it From small acorns grow mighty oaks, and Craig McCorkell is currently sitting behind about 1,750,000 chips, which is the runaway chip lead. This pot is representative of how he's been accumulating those chips today. It started small and grew very large - and McCorkell won it on the river. Sami Kelopuro raised to 28,000 under-the-gun and McCorkell called on the button. Everyone else let them go at it alone and the they saw a flop of Q♥A♦J♣. Kelopuro checked, McCorkell bet 16,000 and Kelopuro called. The turn was 3♥ and Kelopuro checked again. McCorkell bet 43,000 and Kelopuro called again, taking them to a 9♠ river. Kelopuro checked for a third time and McCorkell bet once again, making it 167,000 this time. Kelopuro resignedly called and McCorkell showed T♥8♥ for a rivered straight - good for a 400,000-odd pot. Title: Re: EPT Monte Carlo thread Post by: Blatch on April 28, 2010, 05:28:02 PM Think I sat next to Craig for most of the day at the £1k Monte Carlo event at DTD. Flopped two pair with 72 against turned two pair with A2, and then a 3-bet shove with A8 and call from original raiser with AQ for Perrins. McCorkell reshipped AQ, but was up against AK. AK holds. Then got it in with AQ against KJ, was looking good for McCorkell on the QJ3 flop, till it came 3J to complete the board. UL Pez. The residents pay no income tax, so the way the government raises money is by levying a very high rate of VAT. The locals don't mind because they are so rich they are laughing at saving 50%+ of their income they would have paid in tax anywhere else in the world. The visitors must cough up. A small bottle of coke on F1 weekend can cost about €35. Yes the VAT is high but it's not 2500% The high rate of VAT is barely relevant. It's only about 2% higher than in the UK. The real reason they charge so much in Monte Carlo is simply because they can. If you walked right round to the harbour, you could get them for 5 euros. And there was a supermarket up the hill where you could get everything at fairly standard for a beach resort supermarket prices.
I do remember jimmyz trying to charge us 200 euros for pretty much the cheapest bottle of plonk on the menu mind. So, the reporter should be so impressed by that, that they can't stand up for the decency of the game? I'm sure the reporters find it hilarious and cringeworthy when a poker player thinks that the big amounts of money flying around make him important/someone to be admired/allowed to act like a clown. They laugh at the rest who pay up and head 'round the corner to places you're on about. They're the ones to ask. lol, the locals sure do care about finding cheap food. It just makes the reporter look petty and biased imo Title: Re: EPT Monte Carlo thread Post by: doubleup on May 01, 2010, 06:51:26 PM You can be sure the locals aren't paying mad prices. He should be delighted that he is playing in these events but instead treats everyone with disrespect. He has supposedly won fortunes in cash, but in the fog of shared accounts etc who knows. I don't think he has ever won a poker tournament. It just makes the reporter look petty and biased imo I think the reporter is biased. And I think that's fine; he wasn't necessarily before this episode, unless he had witnessed the pathetic behaviour of this guy before. However, from the way he writes, he has obviously felt annoyed at seeing a respectful and friendly game destroyed by him, and I say big respect to him for feeling that. In any other profession or in a sport, it would be the commentator's job to criticise someone if their behaviour has so obviously been an insult to the other people around them and to the game, and this should be the case in poker. I don't think there is such thing as "petty" when you are writing about someone who consistently insults whoever he likes without reason, and who has actually risked destroying the game here by sending chips flying all over the place. I think it should be the reporter's perogative to say whatever he likes, and he has done well to mainly voice his displeasure in a positive way. But if he had written "why is this self-obsessed clown allowed to be offensive to decent people and behave like a spoilt child without any consequences?" I don't think even that would have been petty; I think it would have been completely fair. Title: Re: EPT Monte Carlo thread Post by: ChipRich on May 02, 2010, 03:34:39 AM Siggggggggggggggh. For sure his outbursts lack class but class isn't a fundamental requirement for playing poker. I think his moody ways actually test the character of other players around the table and those that fail in the face of his nonsense expose their own weaknesses. I don't think his petulance is anything unusual in sport, I mean I remember watching John McEnroe as a kid, now there was a petulant guy. And I think it's a bit rich to suggest he's bad for the game, look at the match fixing in other sports eg today's revelations about John Higgins, and the drug taking in athletics, now that's actually bad for a game. This is just a kid letting off some steam. I also would suggest that playing poker in EPT for big bucks shouldn't really be classed as a "friendly game", you're gonna be confronted with lots of different players with conflicting attitudes and sometimes strong emotions. As long as nobody gets hurt it's ok imo. That said, if he did swing a punch at me I would happily kick the shit out of him. Title: Re: EPT Monte Carlo thread Post by: NoflopsHomer on May 04, 2010, 02:14:21 AM Flushy, please appreciate the irony of your statement, given that you're the part-owner of a site at least partially known for the independency of its updaters' views. ;)
I wasn't around around at the time, but the people updating told me it was a pretty jovial and friendly atmosphere until Schwartz busted and went on his apparently petty rant. However you do have a point in that updating a tournament can be easily compromised if someone has a seemingly bad reputation or annoys a journalist. These days, so much tournament coverage is done by poker sites, that it's more like propaganda than real tournament reporting. Independent updating is very unlikely to ever be profitable, but right now I think it's probably more needed than ever. |
