Title: Re: R.I.P HURRICANE Post by: Sheriff Fatman on July 24, 2010, 08:34:40 PM Sad news, but no surprise given the long battle with cancer.
He was one of the great entertainers during snooker's height of popularity and was never too far away from controversy due to his erratic behaviour. The image of him in 1982 with his baby after winning the World Championship lives long in the memory. RIP Alex Title: Re: R.I.P HURRICANE Post by: Eso Kral on July 24, 2010, 08:37:18 PM Very sad news

I always look back on watching snooker in those days surrounded by family rooting for Davis or Higgins as some of the best days. That 1982 World Championship was a deserved title in many ways but I remeMber staying up late on the Friday night with mum dad and brothers to watch his semi with Jimmy White. This frame was just about as good as it gets, a 69 break when barely on a ball was simply stunning. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dViH2UERKBs RIP Title: Re: R.I.P HURRICANE Post by: pleno1 on July 24, 2010, 10:47:18 PM Very sad news RIP Title: Re: R.I.P HURRICANE Post by: Maxriddles on July 24, 2010, 10:58:37 PM Title: Re: R.I.P HURRICANE Post by: Pelham Boy on July 24, 2010, 11:14:37 PM The word 'genius' is over used. Title: Re: R.I.P HURRICANE Post by: moonandback on July 25, 2010, 10:33:31 AM very very sad, i was fortunate enough to witness him play a few impromptu frames at my golf club back in 92 or 93 he took on all comers for a tenner a frame, i remember a old golfing buddy of mine broke off and made the mistake of saying i did'nt leave much, 141 points later he was shaking hands! he was a bit nuts but was an incredible player i felt honoured to watch the genius at such close quarters with maybe only 20-30 people there.
RIP Alex. Title: Re: R.I.P HURRICANE Post by: boldie on July 25, 2010, 11:03:39 AM Very sad. Title: Re: R.I.P HURRICANE Post by: Marky147 on July 25, 2010, 06:35:09 PM Was privileged enough to play him in an exhibition in '93 even though I was on the wrong end of a hiding. Even then the quality of his snooker was outstanding, just a shame he couldn't control his demons.
RIP Title: Re: R.I.P HURRICANE Post by: Rod on July 25, 2010, 07:29:39 PM Saw him in an exhibition years back in Torquay. He was my favourite player back then. RIP
