Title: Sponsored diet - Game for Life - FINISHED!
Post by: Pokerron on December 22, 2005, 04:07:28 PM
Hi All

As of 1st January 2006 I am going to be going on a diet with the aim of losing around 4 stone by 1st July 2006 (I reckon I weigh 20 stone give or take a stone!).   Obviously I have my own reasons for wanting to lose weight and its in my interest to do so.   I wanted to get some form of sponsorship (xp per pound lost, that sort of thing) as I want a charity to benefit and also to help with self motivation.

With that in mind I will be doing this to raise money for Game for Life (Reg Charity No:1108681) through its Poker4Charity campaign.

I also want to make sure that the charity benefits, even if I fail in my aim to lose weight.   Therefore I will include two clauses.

1) If I don't lose at least a stone by 1st July (sounds easier than it is for me!!) that I will match the average price per pound pledge and pay it x 1000 so if the average price per pound is 20p I would give £200 on top of the money raised for any pounds lost.

2) If come 1st July I have put on weight I would match the average pledge x 2000

If anyone would like to sponsor me then please reply here with a pledge.  Its obviously up to you how much you offer and on what terms, but I think a x pence per lb lost would be best in terms of raising money, keeping it fun and helping with motivation.
Not to mention making me pay more if I fail!

Assuming this goes well and a few people pledge, I will provide weekly updates on this thread.

Thanks in advance

Anthony

Anthony - I weigh more than you!

Are you going to the blonde bash this weekend?

If so, we can have a weigh in and a side bet for your charity if you like? Whoever loses the least by July 1st will have to add £100 to your charity?

Title: Re: Sponsored diet - Game for Life
Post by: Pokerron on January 03, 2006, 12:52:04 PM
sadly not, but I am a trusting fellow and will accept your offer on the basis of you posting your weight now and weighing in bi-weekly.

If you weigh a lot more than me then maybe we could do it as % lost??

I was looking for a boxing style weigh in for a laugh so that we were using the same scales. However, I will weigh myself tonight on my bathroom scales (I think around 21 stone but I will confirm on here tomorrow).

My aim was to get down to 17 stone by next Christmas, so I am hoping to be half way there in July. I will postmy progress for you, but I have a tonne of chocolate to get through from Christmas, before I make a serious push. The idea of a bet will hopefully keep me more focused.

Want to make that a 3 way comp?

I dare not weigh myself at the moment but 19st is perhaps not far off.

Lowest %age loser £100 to charity and middle one £50, How about that?

I will be at the bash this weekend.

Ok Robert.

As Anthony quest is already generating cash, how about you and I have a weigh in on Saturday and then we can have a straight bet for his charity. It will also give us a good excuse to attend another poker event on the weekend nearest 1/7/6 for the final weigh in. ;)

I don't mind mate. I can't speak for Robert, but my guess is that it will be good news for the charity whoever pays and how much is a bonus to them, so I am sure that he won't mind.

Hard to belive that people who sit around in front of a computer all day, eating pizza and drinking beer, would be overweight. Who woul have thought? :D :D

I will be driving on Saturday as I only live in Warwick which is around 45 minutes away, but I plan to get there around 5pm. I need to join the Broadway first and then we can find somewhere to do the 'big' weigh in.

Sorry for the delay, was too busy eating.

Sounds a good idea Sheriff. The 3 of us in a race, best % loss gets away scott free, middle loser coughs up £50 for P4C and the one who ate all the pies is down £100 for the charity.  OK?

Good Luck  :)up

I'm doing the same, trying to lose 3st by July. Just stick to the diet but allow yourself a treat once a week or so, thats the way it works for me. I think I'll be good for the whole week then allow myself a Grosvenor Breakfast after Poker on a friday night! That'll be my incentive!!  :D

Hope you do it mate!!

10th January - 19 Stone 8lb

Weight loss to date - 5lb.

Keep going - well done.

Sheriff / Robert; I will pm you both later in the week. I need to fgo to the local train station for the scales there (they have some of those big old fashioned red ones - but far more accurate). I tried to use mine at the weekend, but I can lose/gain two stone if I just turn them to face the other way (and the floor is level). I guess this would give me an unfair advantange when July comes and I tell you that I have lost two stone and I look fatter!

On the upside, it means that I can continue with beer and crisps this week as I probably won't get there before Saturday ;)

Welldone on your lost of 7lb, in two weeks thats very good. you should be able to lose 2-4 lb aweek comfortable, any loss is a bonus. I myself is on a diet, i go to a weekly club, that includes exerise after the class, i fill out of place at a gym at the moment, until i have lost more weight. so this class helps me because all the people are in the same boat as me. If you need any help with the diet, or have any question, then just ask, 3 years ago i lost 7stone, and i know how hard it is to keep going, we all have bad days. Anyway goodluck, and keep it up. 8)

Another 2lb this week, solid if not spectacular!

24th January - 19 Stone 4lb

Weight loss to date - 9lb.

2lb per week is just about right ...

You generally get a big weight loss the first couple of weeks, and then it will plateau ...

Anything mroe than 2lb per week when you have been dieting for a while and you are overdoing it, and will be more likely to put the weight back on.

Also, only weigh yourself once a week, same place same time.

Good work Mr Ron!*

*better work than me ;) in 1998 I lost 6 stone in a year - went down 6 clothes sizes, and felt great - then I started a job where they had a vending machine :(  new Job in Feb - no vending machine, done it once, can do it again :)

Life is so unfair to me ..

I don't drink beer...
I rarely drink at all in fact.
I don't eat chips (much to the bemusement of people at Luton last weekend).
I used to be bad with the full far coke, but now I am 90% onto diet pop.
I don't really eat 3 meals a day.

I probably eat far too sporadically, I remember when I was conciously trying to lose weight, my doc had said to me .. little and often. If your body gets hungry then it will turn food it has into fat deposits quicker, so it can store it, if it doesn't know where the next mealis coming from.

Thinking about it, this is where the GI diet comes from.. small meals with high energy burning properties that allow your body to use the energy in a more healthy way.

Anyway.. moot point now, my bum still looks bad in jeans :)

3rd January - 19 Stone 13 lb
24th January - 19 Stone 1lb

Weight loss to date - 12lb.

I wish I'd only lost 12 pound on the poker table since 3rd january, I think I am suffering from a touch for the Phil Taylors!

Just realised the month has come and gone.    I will be posting my results monthly otherwise this thread will just be 20+ postings from me and nothing else (this way it will only be 4 or 5 postings from me!).

I must admit I have slipped somewhat in recent weeks and I am not looking forward to the weigh in next week (if I am the same as I was on the 24th I'd be happy).

Strangely as my weight came back on my luck in poker changed and I won a tourney which had been crushing me of late, I even dished out 2 bad beats on the way to (split prize money) victory.   Sadly my health, this challenge and my July life insurance application are insisting this must be put to one side!!

Title: Re: Sponsored diet - Game for Life

3rd January - 19 Stone 13 lb
10th April - 19 Stone 8lb  :(

Weight loss to date - 5lb.

I have tried the 'watch what you eat' diet which worked, I then got cocky and tried the mon-fri diet which didn't, followed by a eat what you like for dinner, but have no supper and small breakfast/lunches which was a disaster, the upshot being that halfway through my quest I have lost an average of just over a pound a month, shocking!

The good news it I am now starting another 'watch what you eat' diet and still hope to have shifted the weight by the end of June.   Hopefully people will realise how cheap it is to sponsor me (most people owe just a pound at this stage!) for this cause and I may generate a bit more cash.  As things stand I owe more than everyone else combined, because:

1) If I don't lose at least a stone by 1st July (sounds easier than it is for me!!) that I will match the average price per pound pledge and pay it x 1000 so if the average price per pound is 20p I would give £200 on top of the money raised for any pounds lost.

2) If come 1st July I have put on weight I would match the average pledge x 2000

I will be doing weekly results regardless from now on as it motivates me more.

I wish you the best of luck, i know its hard to lose weight, and its hard when you have a good loss then relax to much and start eating things that you shouldnt.
Have you tried the Slimming world Diet, im on this at the moment and find it so easy, never fill hungy, with a good result.
Nice to see your getting back on track, i was told "if you have a bunch of flower and 1 or 2 flowers die, you dont throw the whole bunch away.

Dieting is, really, all in the mind - you just need the will to do it.

Sling away all those stupid "proprietary" diets, & dieting books, the formula is absolutely simple. They will work ONLY if your mind is right - & if your mind is right, you don't need them, you can do it with simple common sense.

Here's the secret formula. EAT LESS. EAT SENSIBLE.

Do that, & the weight will drop. Guaranteed.

Now you use your mind games. Weigh yourself daily, put the weight on a graph, & as soon as that graph starts going in the right direction - it will start to drop within 72 hours -  you have impetus, & feel better, you can see the results so clearly. Within 2 weeks, those tight trousers will start to feel comfy - another ego boost, & a great psychological booster. Within 4 weeks, the trousers will be too loose - this is a seminal moment in the diet, because you go & buy a smaller pair, put them on, look better & feel better - now you are hooked!

Before you start the diet, set a weight loss target & a date.

One more psychological trick. Once you get your mind in gear, challenge yourself to break the diet. I keep a small packet of Custard Creams - my fave biscuit of all time - on me or with me, 24/7. I DARE myself to eat one. So long as you do not give in, you KNOW you can beat this weight thing. I began my diet in Cardiff, February 4th, & my packet of Custard Creams has been with me, unopened, 24/7 since that day. Weird, I know, but the human mind is a wonderful but weird thing.

My particular eating pattern during dieting is a bit odd. A home cooked spag bol every day - a MASSIVE one, enough to feed 3 people - but use Lean Mince, max fat content 12%. And grapes - sometimes 2lb or 3lb a day. Every time I feel hungry, I eat some grapes.

Drinking - tea & coffee - is a big prob for me, maybe 20 mugs a day, each with 2 sugar. So sugar is out, & sweeteners are in. Sweeeteners are horrible - imo - so the end result is the 20 mugs a day becomes 3 or 4.

Everyone thinks I'm a fool for doing it this way, but a loss of 3 stone in 2 months & 6 days tells the answer. I conclude it this Friday, my original target date, & I'm as pleased as Punch.

But it's THEN that my problem starts - I shall immediately eat like a pig, wrong foods, too much, & by Christmas I will be back where I started. Daft, I know.

Good luck!

Let me offer you a colonic free of charge to help speed up the process and earn some more money for charity. You are only down the road from Northampton - as long as you are ok with me doing the procedure give me a pm or ring and I'll book you in.

Often I can give advice by just gleaning info from the questionnaire you fill out - lets get that old stuff out so you can hopefully speed up your metabolism, get rid of some toxins and give you more energy.

Understand if you are not sure - but if the premier division footballers can do it you are man enough too! 8)

The colonic room is a bit like vegas - what happens in vegas stays in vegas - so you are assured of complete confidentiality in the colonic room (apart from the fact it's been offered on the forum!). More info on www.colonicnorthampton.co.uk  (hope that's not spamming? If so please remove Mods - thanks.)

Hope you decide to come over,
Tracey

Absolutely agree - its what you are happy with that is important - I'm a chunky chick and happy  - if someone doesn't like it thats their problem.........luckily my man likes chunky chicks (along with every other type of woman on the planet) so we're a match ;-)

I much prefer my men to be chunky - nothing worse than sitting on a mans lap knowing his thighs are smaller than yours....

i have a very slender body (surrounded by about 6 inches of muscular blubber)...its also quite hairy...i must be the only guy that has to use "Head and Shoulders Knees and Toes Knees and Toes" but I am happy with the way I am...and thats all that matters

3rd January - 19 Stone 13 lb
15th June - 18 stone 6lb

Total lost to date - 1 Stone 7 lbs (21 lbs)

Only 2 weeks to go.  To be honest I am disappointed with how this has gone, but 21lbs is better than nothing I guess, hopefully I can lose a few wore ahead of the 30th June close date.

In short - No!  (now for the excuses) I tried going the gym but find it really tedious and too easy to avoid.   I do go on bike rides with my kids on the back but only once or twice a week.

I would like to play 5 a side football, but being new to the town I don't really want to play with strangers at this weight and show myself up.  I need to be 15-16! stone before I will be comfortable playing for the first time with people I don't know.    For the same reason I haven't joined a badminton club yet, I am decent at badminton but at this weight would embarrass myself!

hey anthony we are about to start playing five aside footie beginning of june in luton.

dunno if that bit far from you but you certainly welcome. its on a wednesday evening.

as those of you who attended the blonde bash footie in glasgow will testify im carrying a few extra pounds at the moment after retiring 2 years ago i have added 2 stone to my playing weight and am looking to this to help.

most of the team will be carrying a little extra baggage and we are entering the league to get fitter before the next blonde bash cos i know them jocks will be out 4 revenge  ;goodvevil; we would have to be 200 stone overweight for them to overturn a 20 goal deficit!

anyway let me know if u fancy it
