Defo going to be the worst choice of his career

Very much agree with this. where can he go?

Real won't put Ronaldo or Higuain on the bench to replace them with Rooney so that's not an option.
Barca are in the same position as Real.

Man city already have plenty of top class strikers and won't drop Tevez or move Tevez to accomodate Rooney.

this only leaves Inter or AC IMO. Inter being the most likely choice as he could play with Eto'o there.....and there isn't an awful lot to be gained by moving to Inter from Man U IMO...except that the tabloids might finally leave him alone.

Title: Re: Rooney on his way

lollllll

Rooney would be Man Yoo's biggest player. I dont think they have a plethora on strikers, Adebayor, Santa Cruz etc are all wank imo and Rooney/Tevez partnersip would put City in with a great chance of winning the league. Also Rooney going would perhaps attract other high profile players to sign.

Really, you think he'd go to Citeh? and that City would benefit from it? I doubt it very much and think the main reason he wants to leave ManU is thathe wants to move out of England.

I would think its to do with the media rather than Ferguson(who the media are funnily enough trying to put the blame on)

so it must be abroad; I still think Mourinho would love him at Real even though they have a plethora(good word pleno) - YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-mTUmczVdik of strikers

What is really surprising is that this actually all happened in August and ManU didn't bring in anyone to replace him....reckon a swap is actually already worked out now?

The reason he wants to leave Man U is simple - ego.

If a footballer considers himself to be, say, in the top three players in the world (as Rooney probably does) then he will want to be among the top three highest paid footballers in the world (if he doesn't, his agent will very quickly persuade him that he does), because that's the only way these spoiled brats measure their worth.

Rooney is currently on about £90k a week, which wouldn't even put him in the top 20. Therefore he simply wants to be paid a wage commensurate with his opinion of his ability, and Man U will never be able to do that because they're broke. Hence wanting to leave.

Man City already have Adebayor and Tevez on about £140-150k a week (and Yaya Toure on a ridiculous £200k a week). Rooney could easily double his money if he were to move.

Colleen won't want to move away from the North-West because of her disabled sister.

Smells like their just cashing in and getting rid for profit while they can to me.

Theres no where like united for "no one man is greater than the club", put some spin on it to sell it to the fans and take the money to rebuild what is a pretty weak squad by there standards with giggs and scoles about to drop.

Title: Re: Rooney on his way
Post by: outragous76 on October 19, 2010, 04:21:25 PM
no way would he go to city!

No player is greater than united as many have proven in the past! If he wants to go, let him go. It will be a crying shame, but unless he goes to chelsea (in prem) or real madrid who have already said they dont want him, im not too sure where he "step up" to!

hope ManU get some decent money for him (can't see them getting a ridic amount now..prob 20-25mill'ish?) and actually use it to buy new players (Llorente, anyone?)

Title: Re: Rooney on his way
Post by: TightEnd on October 19, 2010, 04:23:57 PM
I would think City are favourites

Partly for finance, and partly because he won't want to leave the area

If the relationship with the club deteriorates further, he can stick two fingers up at Old Trafford as he leaves and puts the light blue on

Llorente is 30, and some form in 2010 apart, a carthorse.

But he's the one that is responsible for the relationship with the club deteriorating now?

Llorente is 25 and has been running roughly 1 goal every 2 games for the past few seasons which, at a team like Bilboa, isn't bad

Jose will do Fergie a favour. Think Jose rates Rooney as better than Higuain. Didn't he say on arrival that he wanted a striker who was a cross between Higuain and Benzema? Doesn't sound like he thinkgs Higuain is the ideal striker. Take Benzema and some money. Get a replacement and pay off some interest has got to be the plan.
Man U have loads of strikers though. Maybe Fergie will just want cash so he can replace the ageing midfield and and pay off some interest.
United look set for a fall soon. Battle for 4th this year imo and next season out of the top 4.

So, farewell then
Rooney, Wayne
Will we see your like again
My friend Keith, says Higuain
Will replace you soon(ey)
So farewell Wayne Rooney

But

as an afterthought
If you hadn't been caught
Out whoring
That you could have been scoring
The goals that could have won
The World Cup?
and that elusive fourth title in a row

Rooney can buy out his own contract for £10m in a few months and then go pick up £40m signing on at City. He can even stay in the same house. £30m in personal cash is a good return for a quick business deal. Not sure the guy who cheated on his pregnant wife will be too bothered about the morality issues.

Somebody posted this on facebook about it earlier. Kinda makes sense to me...

The only reason Rooney wants to leave is because of Coleen. Before all the stuff came out about him, Rooney wanted to stay at united for LIFE! Since it came out, Coleen no longer supports him because she feels betrayed by the whole team as they knew what he was doing. She hasnt been to a single game since! He will move clubs to save his marrage! deep down he is united through&through!

They're the 18 hockey players who got paid more than Rooney last year.

If you want to look at take home pay, and considering that top rate of income tax in the US of A is 35% and in the UK it's gonna be 50%, then you can expand the list to include another 50 or so skating guys that I've never heard of.

I find it interesting that footballers salarys are always quoted as being such and such per week.

Why is this and do they get paid on Friday like wot I do?

I suspect this coz £200k/week is much more emotive than £10m/year.
All you think of when you hear £10m/year is bloody hell that's a lot of money that big star is getting and then you move on with your life.
When you hear someone's on £200k/week you think, crivens he could get a new house every week and let them all out the bugger.
We can relate to £200k, not £10m. Consequently we get much more cross when we hear about the former.

Is my theory anyway.

Funnily enough I believe Ferguson that it really isn't financial. I too think he'll end up at City and it's down to Colleen.

Tbf though he's about to hit his peak years and Utd are about to hit all time debt for any club in the hostory of world football with no solid basis for the debt being removed any time soon.

IMHO they need him a lot more than he needs them and it could easily be the best move of his career if he goes to somewhere like Real or Barca.

Title: Re: Rooney on his way

Rooney crossing the Atlantic and taking up hockey would be pretty immense.

I picked the NHL coz I didn't want to deal with too many names.
My post of people who get paid more than Rooney would be far too long if I chose NFL, MLB or NBA to make my point.

Isn't the EPL one of the biggest leagues in the world? Should the salarys of it's top players (of which Rooney is undoubtably one) not rival those of top leagues from other sports?

If Rooney did move over the pond and got 200k/week from some mad MLS team, he still wouldn't make the list of the 50 best paid athletes in the US.

Title: Re: Rooney on his way
Post by: TightEnd on October 20, 2010, 12:26:59 AM
TV deals for the major US sports dwarf the EPL TV deals. The disparity is pretty much in this

A 21yo top NFL player, draft picked straight out of college can get say $50m over 6 years before he has played a down and ANY NFL team can afford to pay this if selecting that high in the draft as TV revenues are distributed equally.

Then there is the Salary cap

Baseball a little different as the shar of TV revenue depends on size of market you are in, so the Yankees etc can buy their way to somewhere near the top year after year

Fair enough Tighty, just trying to fight Rooney's corner for a bit.

He's arguably the biggest player in arguably the biggest club in arguably the biggest league in arguably the biggest sport in the world and yet there's literally hundreds of athletes who get paid more than him.

When he wants to make a move for a little more money* the redtops** and pretty much the whole of my facebook*** look upon him as being monstrously greedy.

I'm pretty certain that its personal life/relations with Man U thing first and foremost.

Would be really surprised to see him go to Spain, you just couldn't see him and family being happy there

I bet he finds that really useful.

Like most of us there's little doubt that all his bills come at the end of the month so being paid this way will make managing his monthly outgoings much easier.

Very much downhill fast since Giggs and Scholes are also going to quit soon.

It's not looking good for ManU at all ATM and I reckon they can look forward to years of mediocrity unless they bring in some proper players.

Not sure why someone who is one of the best footballers in the World earning a fortune, likes a beer or two and bangs £1200 per night hookers really takes career advise from his Missus.  Wouldn't be suprised to see him at City but not because of Colleen.   I liked Harry's comments about getting the Spurs Chairman to see what they can do to sign him.

I doubt that he'll move to City because of Colleen TBH..he might move abroad to save his marriage (or because he's fed up with her) and stay out of the tabloids..but moving to City because of his Mrs doesn't make any sense. If he moves to city it will probably only be for the money. (Or because he realises ManU are on the way down, that he's the best player at Man U and will have to carry the team for years to come as the owners might not allow SAF to sign any decent new players.)

Essentially he might feel he's in a similar position to Stevie G's at Liverpool but without the loyalty....will be interesting to hear Rooney's thoughts on this one...though I doubt we'll ever hear them

I really don't understand where people are coming from with regards to Rooney lacking loyalty.A footballer is a job at the end of the day,He has no ties to Man Utd.If there's anyone he should've possibly been loyal to it's Everton but even there they got there moneys worth for what they invested. If in your job you where on Rooney's money and a rival company would give you £x million more then you could get where you are in a business where your retiring mid thirties I very much doubt there's one person on here who'd say no.GL to him wherever he goes next.

True, except that a few months ago (and really justa  month or two before he apparently told SAF he wanted out) he told everyone publicly that he wanted to stay at ManU till the end of his career.

what's changed in those few months? (Other than getting caught going to a prostitute)

Whatever he may have said a few months ago is irrelevant really,.. he's changed his mind, but doesn't mean he wasn't sincere when he said he wanted to stay at United his whole career.  People get married every day and at least some of those people are sincere when they say until death do us part, most are divorced soon after.  Circumstances change, we just don't know what they are in Rooney's case.

true enough..but obv if he goes to City the circumstance will be money related. Moving abroad I would have no problem with as he could very well be doing that because of unwanted tabloid attention.

Ambition seems to be the issue. Rooney's is bigger than United's.

"I met with David Gill last week and he did not give me any of the assurances I was seeking about the future squad," said the England international.

Seems that way.

His issue is with the Glazers then, if we take him at face value. Lots of debt=less team strengthening, and presumably not so much wedge for the players

What a kick in the bollocks Rooney's statement is to his team mates.

He has a point though, the midfield is so weak.

fair cop in my opinion, Man Utd have become a selling club, rooney wants to play for an ambitious team like City.

Unless they are planning on selling his team mates.

What a clown

LOL why is that? he's prob got an extra wedge in his paypacket, he's prob got assurances on deepening squad depth with quality, he's finally got contract negotiations out of the way(which were definitely having an effect on his performance), this will(maybe strangely) endear him to the fans more. I think he'll now have fire in his belly and go on to have an awesome season.

It will probably give the whole red half of manchester a major lift which is needed this season- meant or not prob a masterstroke!

Genius!

Wayne Rooney has made a shock U-turn and agreed a new five-year contract at Manchester United just days after announcing his intention to leave.

Is it possible they've just asked him to sign this so they'll defo get a fee for him in the summer and it gets the press and fans off their backs for the rest of the season? It's quite a u-turn after some of the things that have been said.

Good point...this way they can still get £50mill for him..but surely Rooney would never do this? It would make him even more of a hate figure if he leaves now.

Amazing U-turn and I wonder what concessions/assurances SAF and Gill have given him, will ManU spend big this summer?

I think they're gonna hate him anyway.  I can't believe there's anything Ferguson could have said to him last night that he hasn't said these past few months since he's known about Rooney's intention to leave.  Rooney said Ferguson's convinced him they can match his ambition, but surely he'd have already have said this?  Rooney must have known he was burning his bridges with Ferguson and his teams when he gave his various statements, not sure you can just erase all that by signing a new contract.  Think it's far more likely they've agreed a compromise and he'll be gone in the summer.  Similar kind of deal with Ronaldo.

No I mean they would have hated him had he left in January anyway, so couldn't hate him much more if he now leaves in the summer
