Title: Boring, probably stupid, question Post by: easypickings on December 22, 2010, 04:04:06 AM Ok, this is probably going to sound stupid, I think the answer might be quite simple.
If I make a big check-raise on, say Jd Jc 8d 6h 3d, that's a nuts or air move. I'm polarising my range. My question is, what's the opposite of polarise? If I want to bluff someone off a wider range, I'm probably best making a medium size lead, giving myself a much wider range. But what's the word for that? Maybe just de-polarise? Title: Re: Boring, probably stupid, question Post by: Dubai on December 22, 2010, 04:18:45 AM You can still merge ranges in situations where you look polarised. Such as check raising 99 on the board above, could be considered a merge

And I have seen plenty of players make a big CR with a small flush there, believing it to be the 'nuts' bit of 'nuts or air' Title: Re: Boring, probably stupid, question Post by: action man on December 22, 2010, 12:17:42 PM lol a good 2 pair doesnt come under the air bit, but it comes in the nuts bit if someone is sat there with AK thinking "nuts or air"
Title: Re: Boring, probably stupid, question Post by: Simon Galloway on December 22, 2010, 01:46:59 PM And what happens to a good 2pr when someone is sat there with KJ and says "I know I'm beat but..."
Title: Re: Boring, probably stupid, question Post by: Dubai on December 22, 2010, 01:53:37 PM The reason why its a merge is occasionally people fold better and call with worse.
Id say 77 is probably a better example on that board, because people might bet fold an 8, or bet call a 6 depending on the action. Title: Re: Boring, probably stupid, question Post by: Amatay on December 22, 2010, 07:49:35 PM Interesting little thread. I known along time what polarising your hand means and i guess i've also known what a merge is although until reading this i didnt know that was the name of it. I recently saw A E Jones refering to the term merge on the big game with DN and thought wtf is he on about
