Title: POKER FOR HEROES Post by: littlemissC on March 05, 2011, 08:53:42 AM Iin may Cheryl Routledge has oragnised a great tournament which dtd have kindly said they will host in houner of her son corporal Liam Riley.
There are loads of amazing added prizes on offer including an £8000 EPT package,GUKPT seat and lots of online entries just to name a few.The poker world have done a great job donating prizes so lets get as many people as possible to support this comp. May 29th-30th at dtd £125 buy in no reg good luck to Cheryl and her family she has put her all into organising this I for one cant wait to play http://www.facebook.com/#!/event.php?eid=129859087085251 http://www.heronet.org.uk/event.php?event_id=1889 Title: Re: POKER FOR HEROES Post by: The Camel on March 05, 2011, 09:27:21 AM Is the money raised going to Help for Heroes or Liam Riley's family?
It doesn't make it clear on the website. Title: Re: POKER FOR HEROES Post by: The Camel on March 05, 2011, 09:35:23 AM Also, am I right in assuming there are no cash prizes?
Again, no mention on the website. All the entry money will go to the "cause"? After the Poker4Charity farce, they should have learned they need to totally transparent with financial matters. Title: Re: POKER FOR HEROES Post by: dik9 on March 05, 2011, 10:09:50 AM Hi Keith,
This is a totally different animal to poker4charity (In hindsight maybe we should of called it something different lol) I will try and answer any questions people have on this event. Cheryl wanted to do something for helpforheroes in memory of her son, and asked knowing that my son was in the army if we could do something for h4h, as poker is her passion and mine it seemed natural to raise money via a poker event. The money is going straight to helpforheroes and it is a registered event for them. We have absolutely NO ADMINISTRATION COSTS. The buy-in is £125 for a reason, originally we wanted an event that all entry money would be returned to the charity and the prizes would be the donations, however we expect a very high turnout. We wanted a £100 freezout but as there are no registration fees we decided to raise the buy-in to £125 simply to give us breathing space with the prizes. If it is a low turnout then the ALL the £125 will go to charity, but if for some reason 400 players turn up the extra £25 will be used as additional cash prizes to make at least 27 stepped prizes relative to the field. I will answer any questions anyone throws regarding this. This is a third party event at DTD, it just so happens that DTD have kindly donated the premises and the staff for the day. Any questions regarding the charity itself can be answered here http://www.helpforheroes.org.uk/ Cheryl has worked her butt off trying to get the pokerworld to come together for this, and I personally have never seen a poker event on this scale where the majority of sites have donated. Fire away (if I don't answer straight away, forgive me (it is a deepstack weekend)) Title: Re: POKER FOR HEROES Post by: The Camel on March 05, 2011, 10:21:14 AM Hi Keith, This is a totally different animal to poker4charity (In hindsight maybe we should of called it something different lol) I will try and answer any questions people have on this event. Title: Re: POKER FOR HEROES Post by: paulhouk03 on March 06, 2011, 01:31:59 AM do you know what will be the main prize?
Title: Re: POKER FOR HEROES Post by: dik9 on March 06, 2011, 01:35:12 AM The biggest donation we have had so far will be the main prize, which will be a £5000 London EPT seat and £3000 spending money (donated by Stars), if we have to add more cash that still may be a possibility. It all depends on runners tbh, it may end up that 1st place has 2 prizes?
unless you can think of anyone that may donate a bigger prize :) Title: Re: POKER FOR HEROES Post by: dik9 on March 06, 2011, 02:08:54 AM Cheers bud much appreciated
Title: Re: POKER FOR HEROES Post by: trout3 on March 06, 2011, 02:50:18 AM Great idea - I'm going to try and rearrange a few bits to get to this. As well as being a good poker day it'll be a good social - and obviously all for a great cause. Do you know if the Coldstreams are getting behind this and if its being advertised in Soldier mag etc? Alot of lads play poker but are unaware of DTD - and its difficult arranging any real tournaments because of the 'gambling' rules/implications... hi, im cheryl routledge who has organised this.. i have in mind to approach some of our sponsors before the event to sponsor some some soldiers into the event.. i have very close links with the coldstream guards as my son was attached to them whilst out in Afganistan and would definately be contacting them if this comes off.. i think there could be a chance of some football/sporting memorabilia being donated by steve walsh he owns a memorabilia bussines and is well known for his charity work he recent organised a poker night at leicester gala, which he got some ex sporting legands to participate in http://www.legendsuk.com/about-steve-walsh.html http://www.premierpromotionsuk.com/ Title: Re: POKER FOR HEROES Post by: leethefish on March 06, 2011, 05:50:49 PM Lee by coincidence the Royal Anglians were battlegrouped with the Coldstreams on the last Herrick. wow ... if there is anything i can do to help in any way shape of form please let me know i would be more than happy to help in any way possibleJust digging out the e-mail Cheryl Title: Re: POKER FOR HEROES Post by: Woodsey on March 06, 2011, 05:59:19 PM Organiser, you should probably write to some sports stars, or their management companies for memorabilia to donate. Lawrence Dallaglio is a big supporter of HFH, pretty sure he could sort out some England rugby stuff for you.

The fact that it's for charity makes it worth playing. Just a quick glance through the prizes though shows that it's highly likely to be great value competition anyway. The donations are fantastic and are worth at least 20k. If this competition is advertised well it will get 400+ runners easily. See you there. I am not 100% sure I will be available on this date but if I am will definitely be there, and if not will support in other ways. Really would urge everyone to play this if you can, not just for the prizes but for the fact you will be doing something for someone other than yourself. Title: Re: POKER FOR HEROES Post by: Geo the Sarge on March 23, 2011, 11:16:25 PM Worth a bump.
Also, can buy in be done at the club from now? Do you think theres much chance of getting in on the day? At the moment there's been a lot of interest shown but ATM only 7 people have bought in online, however I do think (hope) that it may sell out. There will also be 4 levels of alternates for any reserves. As an addendum we have have had confirmation that Neil Channing has donated a season of his poker workshops worth £750 And Mad Marty has kindly agreed to host the event. If people are interested in playing this game then I would urge you to buy in online ASAP just to calm my nerves lol Title: Re: POKER FOR HEROES Post by: craigbetts on May 01, 2011, 02:20:02 AM I bought in tonight at the club, I can only emphasize how much this means to me!!!!!! Title: Re: POKER FOR HEROES Post by: dik9 on May 14, 2011, 11:28:35 PM The distribution of prizes will be decided on the day, dependent on how many runners. I will try and be as fair as possible with the distribution of the prizes and they will be announced and displayed once reg is over. I will try and give similar "monies worth" of prizes as if it were a normal comp.
There may well be a raffle, but we need some donated prizes to get this going. At the moment we have a signed John Terry England Shirt, if we do not get any more "raffle" prizes, this maybe part of the prizepool. Hope this answers all your questions. There will also be representatives of Help For Heroes there on the day, selling there wares. Any serviceman past or present thinking of playing, it would be nice if you could wear your colours. Title: Re: POKER FOR HEROES Post by: dik9 on May 14, 2011, 11:34:39 PM Also for those wondering about the PKR change, we originally had 2 packages for the Fox's main event, but due to the fact we had to change the date this is not possible as it is too late. They have kindly replaced those prizes with 3 prize packages to PKR’s biggest online events – The Masters ($270 buy-in), The Prestige($109 buy-in) and The High Roller ($150 buy-in). Each package will have one ticket to each of the three events for a total value of $529 each.

I remember at the pokes tables once slagging off scunny something along the lines of "never seen so many kappa tracksuits in one place, its like going back to the 70s" one guy verbally takes offence, he is a decent player tbh and didn't take it with a pinch of salt (which is what you should do with most of what i say) then i look across at another guy on my table tattood head to toe, i look at his hands and notice some wording on his knuckles, it reads S C U N T ...H O R P E. lol. gulp. luckily for me he turned out to be a proper nice guy and took it a lot better than the other matey. Now bought in. Was hoping I could use DTD account funds, but apparently not. Will withdraw some to cover it. I've not bought in via shop before. Do I need to bring anything with me to the club, or does it all automagically happen like when you used to buy in through the poker client? It's a great cause. I suspect the atmosphere in the club will be a very good one on Sunday. Have you got any numbers on how many bought in so far? I was kinda hoping for 200 plus though I am guessing the raffle made a few quid and a special mention to James Moult for digging deep'ish to purchase the signed JT England shirt in the auction.
Massive props to Rob and the team for hosting the event, I can not say enough about the place!! I vote with my feet and rarely play poker elsewhere! Title: Re: POKER FOR HEROES Post by: Marky147 on May 30, 2011, 04:52:07 PM Great day yesterday and although circumstances conspired against Cheryl with regards to the dates it was still a fantastic effort by all. Cheryl said it was around £25k which is no mean feat and hopefully the next one will be even bigger. Was great to meet a couple new Blondes, as mentioned a shame not to get to meet more but that's an excuse for another trip sooner rather than later!!
I'm paying for it now after all the walking I did on Saturday getting up to Tim's but it was definitely worth it and I look forward to doing it again soon. Was funny to see that Jason is a lot less controversial in real life too ;) Massive well done to everyone involved, sorry to George for the badbeat and for then spewing them off afterwards :D Title: Re: POKER FOR HEROES Post by: George2Loose on May 30, 2011, 05:08:38 PM Great day yesterday and although circumstances conspired against Cheryl with regards to the dates it was still a fantastic effort by all. 154 runners = £15,400 38 re buys = £3,800 John Terry signed shirt = £450 (many thanks Jim) £110.41 from buckets £1445 from the raffle Total on the day = £21,205.41 + £2140 from UKIPT event + £600 from Nick Wealthall from that event Gives a total of £23,945.41 Many thanks to everyone who helped, supported and donated and Cheryl ( you are just a superstar) In truth I was mortified by the attendance, and bitterly disappointed in myself to let it effect my mood, as I really wanted to enjoy the day and have a good craic. It still was an enjoyable day and a cracking competiton made better by the value lol. Met some great people and heard many inspiring stories ... It's not all about the pokerz! Blimey, I sound miserable but the fact is H4H is £24k better off and that will make a significant impact for some of our injured heroes so again a great big thank you to everyone that attended! That was a pretty sick hand and I was pretty happy to have so much equity when they came over :D Title: Re: POKER FOR HEROES Post by: smashedagain on May 30, 2011, 05:58:46 PM great effort all round richard.

You've made a fantastic effort and with the help of others have put on a great event. 154 runners considering everything else that was on that day is amazing. It's not easy to compete with loads of other poker comps of similar buy in + a huge music event taking over most of Nottingham city centre. You should be incredibly proud of what you've done. I agree with all of the above. You arranged a Poker competition in Nottingham on a bank Holiday Weekend and Raised £24k Will this increase 40% because of tax ? I don't understand the Tax thing for charities. You should be very proud. £24000 Pounds is MASSIVE ...WELL DONE Regards M Title: Re: POKER FOR HEROES Post by: mondatoo on May 30, 2011, 10:44:57 PM WP everyone involved.

My exit hand was AQ vs 99! with 10 bigs. probs referring to my airball jam with the gutshot redraw which crippled me? (i completely miscounted his stack thought he had a purple at the bottom so obv he was committed, although i didn't expect him to have 3 bet me oop with jq os. sigh. How did you pass 10s there?? i valued with JJ, so good pass, the river was a bit dirty. I thought you was going to pay me off with A9. Accounts are almost sorted, i have had everything blocked and new ones sent, but they said they have a new process available when so many of your personal details have been comprimised but i couldn't do that until today. I have seen you at the tables a fair bit before but wasn't sure who you was. Was good to talk/play with ya man. No doubt see you at the tables again soon. GL Well network security isn't my job really, it's just something I'm into more as an interest but yeah that's me. Yeah I was referring to your 89(?), pretty sick by both of you tbf. In our hand I felt like you had JJ/QQ and wasn't liking my call on the turn to be honest. I don't think I pay any river. I wasn't beating much. Good to hear the accounts are sorted. Nice to meet you and GL to you too.
