Its not bad for a long weekend. The markets are decent to walk around and its nice to do a day trip up to the Atlas mountains for a stroll. Thought the nightlife was a bit pants, but if your just going with a bird for the weekend you will have a nice time. There are plenty of nice hotels and the weather will be nice all year round.

I'm changing your name to Judith Charmers :D

Always fancied it, but heard mixed reports.  Yes, would be going with the missus, so not that interested in a lively night scene or anything like that.  You wouldn't recommend going for more than a long weekend though?

Maybe 4 nights would be a good length in Marrakech itself. The area is littered with nice 4 and 5 star hotels, if your happy to just chill by the pool for a couple of days I guess you could do a week. Didn't go anywhere else apart from Marrakech itself and the Atlas so I can't really comment on what else there is to do, think I only played a bit of golf other than that really.

I get a lot of ideas of stuff to do in places and what's possible in xxx timescale by looking at this site and other similar ones.

Why do you have two phones Jason?
back in 2009 my contract was up for re newal and i wanted a n97. vodaphone told me that i would have to pay £100 towards it. i refused to do this so told em to cancel the contract and i would get a new number and so the phone would then be free. i recieved the new phone and about a week later i got a phone call asking why i had given 30 day notice to quit my original contract. i told em i was not paying for a phone and they said they would send me one foc. being the idiot i am i did not realize i would be tied to two cotracts now. i took em both to vegas and gave one to the wife to use...my first months bills were both over £250 on roaming charges and internet etc. only just got a new i phone last month and  was able to cancel one of the numbers. my i phone is also smashed to bits as well now tho

Come on then Jason, if you are going to hijack my thread with your Nokia n97 talk at least tell me what you think of Marrakesh!  You have been there, haven't you?

i have to say that i never even knew that Marrakesh was not on the coast. wadey had told me that Marrakesh was beautiful and one of the top places muslims go for a break. the es saadi hotel was more than adequate for my needs and the poker/casino was excellent. i did not get out as much as i would have liked due to being in the comp so long. the club we did go to for the after party was very good and it does have a vibrant clubbing scene. we ate at some nice places which had a very french influence as is to be expected. we went to the souk and ended up bying a load of stuff we did not need and left in the room on departure. i am not sure there is enough things to keep me occupied for more than a small break but would definatly consdier going again

The thing that pissed me off was as its a muslim country it was hard to get a beer anywhere away from your hotel. Just the odd time a nice cold one after a bit of aimless exploring would have been perfect!

Went a few years ago. Stayed on the coast and went to Marrakech on a day trip.

Souk is an experience! They price something at say 2000...when really its worth about a tenth of the price. You have to haggle hard!!

Phil and Kirsty did a trip report recently:

http://www.channel4.com/programmes/vacation-vacation-vacation/articles/marrakech

...(ballon ride looks a must!!)

...and "The Apprentice" went there a couple of year ago!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8IzJs6m-lj4

...maybe a few good deals around after that bomb went off !?

Yeah I went for a donkament.  The main square is pretty cool but I reckon you could do most things of interest in the city in 2 days.  It's pretty chilled there, can only get beer at hotels obv but lots of people trying to sell weed if that's your thing.  Nice weather too.

The thing that pissed me off was as its a muslim country it was hard to get a beer anywhere away from your hotel. Just the odd time a nice cold one after a bit of aimless exploring would have been perfect!

everyone just goes to the supermarket just outside the city gate for beer or pasha for a night out

after 3 days in the city you will desperately want to leave. the locals will have driven you mad, don't ever leave you alone trying to sell you the same old shit. you'll enjoy those 3 days though, just don't ever plan to stay any longer

if you've got longer then the atlas mountains are amazing. can you ride a motorbike? hire one and head into the mountains, it's an awesome way to spend a day

or head to the coast at essaouaria which is pretty close

even longer then head to the sahara and play on camels

other option is to fly into marrakech and out of fez to see a bit more of the country. fez is like a smaller marrakech, same stuff on sale but cheaper and less hassle from locals. don't bother with casablanca, nothing there except a giant mosque apparently (I've not been but never heard anything good from people who've been)

drink lots of mint tea, it's truly amazing stuff

A mate of mine used to live and work in Agadir on the coast, he loved the place and used to rave about it. I know nothing about it and can't give you any info though.......

Used to travel to Morocco a lot with work
Marrakech weekend imo
Plenty of international type hotels most out by airport
why not try smaller hotels " Riads" in city for a different experience
Jason mentions "es saadi hotel" one with casino attached rates here can be very competitive if no big events on
much rather stay here than out by airport
as mentioned already essaouaria on coast is worth a visit
you can get Coach there from next to train station

If you want to see atlas mountains and don't want to hire car (wouldn't recommend unless your Arabic or French is good as you will get stopped by police looking for small bribes to let you of with non existent offences) risking tk joining  thread take a train journey first class of course no need to pre book just buy at train station
could go to Casablanca or fez i like fez smaller cosmopolitan feel

how are you getting there Ryan fly out of luton cheap as chips if you book early with no hold lugage

long weekend or combine with coast imo

Thanks all for the info.

All saying a similar thing that it's best for a long weekend rather than a more extended stay.   Some good advice on what to do there too :)up

Never saw it mate. But it is uncanny imo. Not quite as bad as Frazer Bellamy and Ricky Gervais.

I don't get why people go to marrakech and stay in a 5star resort. you may as well be anywhere in the world

stay in a riad and actually experience the place you're visiting
