how do you come back from a 10-7 round?

Title: Re: anybody watching the froch fight?
Post by: kinboshi on June 05, 2011, 01:27:28 AM
Yeah, 10-7 round pretty devastating, but don't think it's going to go to points, and he'll be stopped for the first time.  Kessler looking impressive and hungry for the stoppage (cue the fight going the distance :D).

Good fight, enjoyed that, the Frenchie showed plenty of heart.

I like Kessler, good to watch and classy at the same time.

I can't work out if Froch is the smartest boxer ever as he only seems to do just enough, or if he is awful, hands low, turning his back, always happy to be pushed onto his back foot.

Johnson displayed a great chin but Ward will bring a chin and a more relentless attacking style - should be a great fight.

I always get the impression Froch likes to do just enough to win, but it might be that he can't actually do any more?

I honestly think Carl Froch is the most underrated world champ Britain has ever had.  He is a superb fighter in probably the most competitive division in boxing and his lack of recognition in Britain is astounding to me.

I like froch and i'm always wanting him too win, but with that style against Ward its going to be an early bath i'm afraid..
Not go past 6 rounds...

You can have a big price with me that Ward knocks him out.  Ward has only had one man in his last seven fights on the floor (and none since he started fighting at world level) and that was Pudwill who wasn't up to the level at all.  Furtermore froch has only been down once in his career.  No doubt ward is a good fighter but he is more of a technically good fighter than a banger.

I don't mind Froch and do believe he should get a bit more appreciation for his achievements certainly within the UK, I do think his defence is sloppy though, keeps his hands far too low and unlike Haye he doesn't have the speed/movement to get out of the way, luckily for him he has a more than solid chin.
The only thing regarding Froch is a lot of his fans seem to think he is a lot better than he actually is, all the talk of him being better than Calzaghe i thought was redic. Calzaghe although he was a bit of a slapper was leagues above Froch imo. Think Ward will out box him and Bute would be the man to actually stop him.

Froch is excellent, but not in Calzaghe's league (which might make Calzaghe the most under-rated British World Champ?) imo.

Froch's fights haven't had the coverage on TV which is why he's not got the recognition.  Most 'fight fans' only watch the big fights that are heavily publicised, and that's where their recognition from the general public comes from.  That might suggest he isn't being managed/promoted correctly?

Pretty much agree with all of that, esp the Calzaghe line. Feel sorry for fight fans who only watch the biggest and most well publicised fights. a bit off topic, I can't believe how many people still haven't seen the Ortiz v Berto fight. That is literally one of the best fights i have ever had the pleasure of watching!!

Froch isn't as good as Calzaghe was. The Kessler form tells us that. Don't think that makes him less under-rated though.
I've often heard people argue Calzaghe was the the best British World Champion of all time and he won Sports Personality so he was obviously rated.
Froch's fights are always pretty exciting. Probably because he uses his chin to block with. If he's ever under pressure he sees attack as the best form of defence.
Needs to start better though as he often gives away early rounds. Hopefully he can get the final in Vegas or MSG. Make it a big enough show so that the ref doesn't think head butts are legal. I think he can beat Ward and then would want to go to war with Kessler again.

Title: Re: anybody watching the froch fight?
Post by: DaveShoelace on June 06, 2011, 01:55:03 PM
Froch was a tad unlucky that Calzaghe was top dog when he was climbing the ranks, which did deflect a lot of attention away from him early that he perhaps deserved. He always claimed Calzaghe ducked him, but the reality was Joe didnt really need him as he had much bigger matches to fight - I think Joe would have won by a decent margin, especially as Froch has some defensive issues that would have been exposed big time.

But he is a good, dangerous, exciting fighter that deserves perhaps a bit more exposure. Hope he wins.

Arguably the best fighter Britain has ever produced (even though he's a complete cock), but many disagree - that's why I think he's under-rated.

Definitely makes him exciting to watch, as you're expecting him to get clouted a few times and you hope he's going to stand up to the big shots when they inevitably land. If only he showed a bit more aggression at times.

A rematch with Kessler has to be done imo.

I personally believe he would have beaten Benn, Eubank, and Collins in their prime, given that these guys are in most 'best british (and irish)' lists, that makes him one of the best imo too.

No doubt Calzaghe is generally underrated by the general public that were brought up on Eubank, Benn etc but he is generally recognised by the general public inthe same way Ricky Hatton was.  Froch is a world class fighter in that tradition, competing against the best every fight and cannot even get a broadcaster to take his fights in this country (until Saturday).  Froch could walk down Oxford Street and most people wouldn't know who he was.  as for a price for Ward to knock him out....I'll lay 3-1 to a hundred quid which I think is fair for a fighter likely to be 1/2 to win the fight.

anyone know anything about froch's brother?  on saturday night met this huge black guy called george in dtd who claimed he was Sinclairs mate and had just popped into see Sinclair. Sinclair had gone and i was in the lobby and could see he was trying to get a look at the fight. i invited him in and watched the last couple of rounds with him and he seemed to be very knowledgable. he claimed that carl's brother was/is a better fighter but i was clueless (as normal). he ended up giving me a lift to my hotel which i bunged him £20 and a pair of prada sunnies for.

This.

Also Hatton is nowhere near Calzaghe's class because he was knocked out multiple times. Nobody ever knocked Calzaghe out.

I'm going to get on Froch by stoppage.
Sometimes doesn't do a lot early on while sizing up opponents and as his technique doesn't look great can gift early rounds. Might be tempted to get on IR if he goes bigger and doesn't actually look in danger.

No expert though - must make that clear

Froch will 100% go for the KO imo, no way will he want to leave it to the judges and he very much has a stand and bang style anyways. I will be on a Froch stoppage and probs every even round (my standard bet) I have been stung in the past with patriotic bets. But fvck it. Smash him Carlos. Getting really excited for this!

Make no mistake Ward is VERY special.  Froch is super tough but just didn't have the class.  Have Ward winning it by 8

Best outcome I see is 118 - 113

Shocked at the judges scores.

Boxing is a farce sometimes.

Just clinical and he never looked in trouble really. Think the British judge was the only one who was anywhere close to correct....

bizarre, i thought ward won it by a mile but counting up my scores he only just nicked it, drunken bias coming in i think.

Khan could learn a lot from him.

If Ward wasn't such a god botherer I would really warm to him. Can't deny his talent though. Looking forward to the next match up. Still gotta love Froch.

Really disappointing in the end, had a couple of mates around as planned but we were never out of our seats or anything.  Ward bossed the fight, particularly up close and he was quick too.

Ward by 7 I'm afraid.  Managed a full 3hrs kip before the kids got me up at 7am so as you can imagine, I feel like shit........forget the pokers today!

Stayed up to watch the fight downstairs on the settee and now i feel like i've been hit by a train, as i'm sure so does froch.. Ward was/is just too good for him and can't see any point in a re-match should that offer come up.. fair play to froch for giving his all as expected.. look forward to Wards next fight.. Would also like to say that i was really impressed with the ref after the last couple of world title fights that have just in my eyes been ref'd lolbad it was good not to see to much of the ref i ya know what i mean.. He would deffo get my pick for the mayweather/pacman fight should that come off.. million
Although it would probably be Joe Cortiz who basically ruined Hatton's and Ortiz's chances..

Froch didn't have a joker of a ref taking his world title from him. What should Khan have said, that it was all fair and above board?

As for the fight last night, only one man in it and unfortunately Froch was outclassed. Ward a different level.
