Title: Next season's football bets
Post by: Chompy on June 08, 2011, 08:20:50 PM
Backed Crawley for League Two (12/1) and Brighton to win promotion (7/1).

Thinking of adding Van Persie top Prem scorer at 12/1.

And a four-division Yankee on...

Man City
Birmingham
Crawley
Someone for the Conference, dunno who yet.

Anyone else played?

Liking Crawley at those odds!.. What are they for promotion!!

I fancy Blackburn to go down from Prem.
Hull for Championship
Huddersfield League 1

Want to get on Wigan to go down but may be about timing. Al Habsi signs they look more secure but I expect Nzogbia, Rodallega, McCarthy, Diame to be linked with moves and if a couple of them went they would shorten.
Oxford in L2. Missed the Crawley boat.

Haha I'm thinking of backing Birmingham to go down @ 50s.

If they sell Gardner, Johnson, Danns and Foster which they probably will, they are pretty snookered in a very tough division.

Atm in Cship I fancy Leicester and Hull.

Leicester too short tho so would take Hull @ 25s.

Plenty of money, lots of new young talented signings in Jan who have yet to properly gel and a decent gaffer in Pearson.

Nah, gone off that Van Persie bet. Waiting now for the prices on Tubbsy to be top League Two scorer. Anything over 6-1 is too big imo. I love Tubbsy more than he loves his mirror.

Que? Just the price I'm looking for. He's the main man for the current 3/1 favourites. Top scorer in the Conference last season.

Crawley at 12/1 is retardedly good value

In recent seasons Dagenham and Rebridge have gone up having being promoted only very recently from the BSP (admittedly they'll be back in League 2 this season), Stevenage went up at the first attempt and did so by beating Torquay who only came up a couple of seasons ago.

Given the money they're willing to spend, fill yer boots I reckon.

I thought Hull looked a decent ew shot until I heard they were linked with Dele Adebola.
Thinking Ipswich might be worth a punt. Big money from Wickham reinvested in the team could give them a chance.

To sum up Ipswich last season: Jimmy Bullard was given POTY by the supporters despite playing just 17 games for Ipswich.

They've lost their best defender (Mcauley), their midfielders are awful and they're incredible average up-front.

My mate's a season ticket-holder and I went with him 18 times last year so I've no grudge to bear against them, but they've little to no chance of even making the play-offs without a huge overhaul.

when did you back this? nowhere's bigger than 7/2

Appreciate the input. Rather you saved me cash than say nothing.
Heard they were signing Chopra and St Ledger which would improve them and if Wickham goes for 8mil plus there could very well be more signings to come.
No chance of Bullard coming back?

Victor 'I'll take that bet' Chandler, the day after they officially sealed promotion from the Conf.

Chopra's a decent striker at this level, but nothing special. Struggled for goals this season and it's worth noting that Cardiff are happy to take a 2.5 mill loss on a player they spent 4mill on last year. St Ledger would be a decent signing, but I really do honestly believe that they've got not one player worthy of Premier League football at the moment.

Bullard almost certainly won't sign for them. One issue is the wages, but recently on Soccer AM he was asked why he was POTY having played so little and he himself said it was because the others are crap. Couldn't believe that when I heard it.

Boro would be a good bet for me. Gibson will always back his managers and Mowbray's had the best part of half a season or so to come to terms with the quality of his squad so I expect them to be up there. Reading too, depending on how many go, as they've a decent squad with a solid backroom and lots of stability which counts for so much in this league. Also fancy Burnley and Hull.

One team I'd happily lay is Birmingham. Nobody knows the true extent of their financial situation and I have a feeling there'll be a few shocks to come from that club this year.

GL anyway.

Done a few, what about York for the conference, and Swindon for L2 promotion under Di Canio?

Also looks like we could be signing Lua Lua for £1.2M by end of this month - will give us (Brighton) a good shout at the playoffs, even with Bennett off.

Got it in early June with Paddy Power.

Mccormack isn't a winger no, hes a poacher, he will play up front with Becchio and play off him.

It is very annoying he has missed 2 pens in pre season tho, would've been a lot better if he was the main taker and as you say that will probably go to Max now.

If they had a decent manager I'd be all over that like a rash. Just need to sign a decent striker and they've got the makings of a good Premier League squad imo.

Is this the case? Had a look through their pre-season fixtures and it's only been 4-4-2 (mostly Ba/Ameobi).

Yeah personnel has been out. We are signing Erding tonight I think.

Will be something like..

     Tiote Cabaye Gosling

Marveux (incred)  Ben Arfa (wow)
                  Ba

Can swap it round a little bit with Erding, Barton, and also changing the formation to

            Tiote   Cabaye

Barton                    Marveux

                 Ben Arfa
                      Ba

Just having a look about at ante post bets before RP supplement comes out tomorrow. Here's a summary of what I've done so far. Some pretty stupid and some i'm happy with.
Thought i'd found a decent bet on Dembele top league scorer for Fulham @ 8/1. He scored 3 in 24 last season! I thought he'd done a lot better.

Liverpool most clean sheets 12/1
Suarez to score 15 league goals 7/2
Fryatt and Rodriguez ew Championship top scorer 33/1 and 40/1
PSG Uefa Cup winners 14/1
Dzeko, Ba and Zamora ew Prem top scorer 33/1, 66/1, 66/1
Coventry to be relegated 11/4
Charlton to win L1 ew 12/1
Newcastle w/o Big 6 ew 16/1 courtesy of BH
Liverpool to win Prem 16/1
Warnock next manager to go 16/1 courtesy of The Camel
Gervinho to score a league goal in August 11/10 [ ] checked Arsenal's opponents in August

I'd imagine this is one of the stupid bets you are referring to considering you have Liverpool down for 5th in the prediction comp.

p.s I love the Suarez bet , I wish i had a wedge to lump on that.

Yeh I thought the price would get shorter and it has but I don't even think freerolling it would get me anywhere and will tie up money for the season so now just going to leave it and hope Kenny surprises me. You've not got Europe but also not really strengthened in the way that I expected but there is still time.

Going with a few RP bets

Blackburn to be relegated @ 4-1 (Seems like this will be shorter at some stage during the season)
I like their shout for Kenwyn Jones  on golden boot handicap (+11 start) @15-1 EW.

I think the handicap for the league showed last year, during an admittedly weird season, that you should stay away from backing the top dogs in this one.

I quite like Sunderland @ 14-1. Gyan and Jones will do well with them and they are a very solid team.

Title: Re: Next season's football bets

Sunderland will struggle imo. Could end up in a relegation battle if Gyan gets injuured or goes to African Nations. Did you think they still had Kenwyne Jones? I think him Bent, Quinn and Philips are no longer part of squad mate.

Have an acquaintance who is now on loan at Rotherham

He is very bullish of what he has seen.

they may or may not keep Le Fondre but are great value at 20-1 (Hills) in L2. Crawley at 100/30 (lots of money, assumed to be going up the leagues quick) distorts that market considerably

others in the mix like Bristol Rovers and Swindon are around 10-1, I think Rotherham are in that bracket
