Until the latest HTC (which was realeased a year later) it was clearly the best phone on the market. Now its pretty close but the iphone 5 comes out in August so probably best to hold out for that or at least get a shorter contract so you can upgrade to 5 asap.
As for iphone 4 vs HTC, the iphone is the winner if you already use itunes cos its all there already or if you want better camera and video. HTC has a faster processor and the multitasking is smoother but most of the reviews say that you're only really going to notice the difference if you hammer the apps pretty hard Iphones were obv really popular in the last year or two, now apple bashing is in so everyones getting HTCs. Answers on a postcard what'll happen when everyone has an HTC and the iphone 5 gets established. I can only talk about the iphone from personal experience but I've had one since the iphone 2 and never had a technical fault. One broke but that was because I dropped it face down in the road and phone covers tilt me. HTC is probably cheaper though so flip a coin I guess if you're that unsure. Gotta be honest I'd snap get an I-phone if it weren't so damn big. Part of the reason I've still got on old sony ericsson is because phones seem to have got bigger since then and I like its portability, probs going to have to go into a shop and check them out in person. With a HTC can i put my I tunes music onto it or is there compatability issues? Quite a funny debate this as people are either sold on one or the other in the main so its hard to get true impartiality....... Title: Re: HTC Desire Phone Post by: DaveShoelace on July 28, 2011, 07:46:19 AM lol at everyone (in general not just here) who thinks they have to pick sides.
All I can say is from personal experience, I had an iPhone, then got a HTC. I liked the HTC, and agree that they seem a lot faster as both a processor and for web surfing. However, I have switched back to an iPhone because they are just so easy to use, so instinctive, and imo better for the basic consumer stuff like pictures, music, video, facebook etc. Title: Re: HTC Desire Phone Post by: kinboshi on July 28, 2011, 08:17:05 AM Woodsey, the Sensation is light years ahead of the Desire in pretty much every way.
Have you held one? Yes, it's bigger than the Desire, but the cons of that are outweighed by the pros. The desire is about 18 months old (maybe two years) and the technology has moved on dramatically. I have a Desire and it's still an excellent phone, but the missus has just got the Sensation and I want one now. As for the comparison between Android and the iPhone, it depends what you want. If you want a video/music device, with slick apps and can live with the negatives the iPhone has in terms of an actual communication device, then the iPhone might be for you. If you're after a phone primarily for calls, texts, web, emails, etc., then I'm waiting for anyone to put forward a case for the iPhone ahead of a decent android phone. I'm an android fanboy, so probably exhibiting bias. So take all that with a pinch of salt. As for the wildfire, I definitely wouldn't. Vastly underpowered. There is another choice, and StuHop is the man to ask on this one. If you want the benefits of android, but do watch a lot of video on your phone the Samsung Galaxy S II looks the schnizzle. Again it's a similar size to the sensation, but slimmer. Title: Re: HTC Desire Phone Post by: kinboshi on July 28, 2011, 08:21:39 AM Oh, here's an example of the android out performing an iPhone. I was at an event last weekend and this meant I wasn't near a telly to watch the rugby league match on the BBC.
Fortunately, I could go to the BBC website and watch the whole thing on my phone. I'd had my phone on all day, and with the demands of the screen and constant streaming of the video the battery needed changing at half time. No problem though and I managed to watch the whole match and Wigan beat Warrington and I was a happy bunny. With an iPhone I couldn't have done that. Tried everything from resets to wiping it clean and nothing has helped. even though my phone is faulty and I am willing to go on a 2 year contract O2 are unwilling to upgrade me 2 months early so I will be leaving O2 & going to vodaphone with the Iphone 4. O2 will be losing 2 long term contracts out of this issue.
Will never go back to O2 Will never go back to HTC Title: Re: HTC Desire Phone Post by: DMorgan on July 28, 2011, 11:33:17 AM lol at iphone being sheepy. After my last iPhone 4 replacement I tried an Android phone with my own money as my phone is a business contract. Ok, my phone choice wasn't the best (Dell Streak 5") but the Android operating system in my opinion is far better. Juice Defender ultimate is a good app for extending battery life Tasker (brilliant app for lots of reasons. One related to battery life is that my GPS is turned off by default, but is switched on automatically when I start the maps app, and automatically switches off when I close the maps app). Screen set to automatic dim (not sure if that's available on non-rooted phones or not, but the screen tends to be the biggest drain of battery) Oh, and I also usually carry a few spare batteries around with me if I'm away from my charger for a day or two. That means I get more than a long-weekend's use even if I'm hammering the phone. If you have a car that does 50mpg, would you not want it to be switched off when parked up doing nothing rather than left running and using fuel unnecessarily? Of course, you don't want it to cut the fuel when you need it, but why use it up when it's not required? You didn't really compare it to any other phone in terms of how it actually worked with calls, texts, emails, web browsing, etc. Exactly. Woodsey posted asking for opinions on the two and my opinion at the time was that the iphone 4 was clearly the best one available. Not really sure why you've decided to jump down my throat about it but if any personal offence was caused then my sincerest apologies. With it being the year 2010 I assumed that whatever phone I bought would be fine for calls, texts, emails and browsing and I've yet to be shown otherwise. Title: Re: HTC Desire Phone Post by: kinboshi on July 28, 2011, 10:59:06 PM LOL Dan, you can say and think what you want. Just wanted to know the reasoning behind you thinking it was clearly the best phone. Funnily enough I looked at a different phone and thought exactly the same thing.
You got upset at gatso's sheep comment, but then seemed to then go along with the iphone party line without really explaining why you thought it was the best phone. You say that it was 2010 and you assumed that any phone would do the basics well. That's not necessarily true. But let's not fall out about it ;) Title: Re: HTC Desire Phone Post by: toddswain on July 29, 2011, 03:02:40 PM Never had an iphone so cannot compare but have a htc desire and the battery life is terrible Have you ever tried any apps to extend the battery life, or even tried switching the wi-fi or GPS off? Just wondering... I have had the Desire for over a year, and not had a problem with the battery dying on me, but then again, I've set the phone up to use the battery as wisely as possible and also have spare batteries if necessary. Any reccomendations ? my wifi and gps are never on and my desire lasts about 7 hours - im at work for 9 so its kinda annoying I'm on a rooted phone using cyanogen mod. Weee, downloaded free version off this, got through work whilst battery still in green, gonna snap buy the ultimate one now, thanks alot Title: Re: HTC Desire Phone Post by: Jon MW on July 29, 2011, 06:25:42 PM Is there much difference between the free version and the ultimate one?
