lol at iphone being sheepy. Until the latest HTC (which was realeased a year later) it was clearly the best phone on the market.
Dan, "clearly the best phone" using what metrics? I'd challenge that statement and can back it up with a decent argument. Can you, or are you just an iPhone fanboy?
Sigh at having to put disclaimers on everything
When I was looking for a new contract the iphone 4 was clearly the best phone for my requirements. I already used itunes, didn't care that it was a bit bigger than other phones available, had a lot more apps than the android at that point and from trying both of them out in store the iphone struck me as more user-friendly.
I did say in my post that I'm an iphone user and can't claim to be BBC impartial
So to summarise, it was "clearly the best phone" because you just thought it was. You didn't really compare it to any other phone in terms of how it actually worked with calls, texts, emails, web browsing, etc.

i recently got the iphone 4 and have some experience to compare it against a HTC (my girlfriend has one) and what i think the iphone has in its favour its is useability.
i think you could quite easily pick one up without ever having touched one in your life and you just 'know' what to do and how to use, where as i did/do struggle abit more when using my girlfriends HTC

Watch Apple's "soon". As my old man would say, "don't get strung up by the thumbs!"

I hammer my Sensation daily and as long as I charge it at night, I'm fine.

Have you ever tried any apps to extend the battery life, or even tried switching the wi-fi or GPS off? Just wondering...
I have had the Desire for over a year, and not had a problem with the battery dying on me, but then again, I've set the phone up to use the battery as wisely as possible and also have spare batteries if necessary.

boshi is a tosser and knows very little about anything. the wife and myself have i phones. we both dropped em and they smashed so need to claim on the insurance. my step son has the htc and says its a far superior phone to the i phone in most departments. he is young so uses it a lot more than we use ours and knows a lot more about this stuff than we do. but boshi is a tosser and knows very little about anything.

Terminating apps definitely helps. What I like especially for late nights at DTD when battery power is minimal, at the touch of a button from my home screen I can turn off WiFi, Sync, GPS and 3G. That's good for about 2hrs extra battery from my experience.

I'm on a rooted phone using cyanogen mod.
Juice Defender ultimate is a good app for extending battery life
Tasker (brilliant app for lots of reasons. One related to battery life is that my GPS is turned off by default, but is switched on automatically when I start the maps app, and automatically switches off when I close the maps app).
Screen set to automatic dim (not sure if that's available on non-rooted phones or not, but the screen tends to be the biggest drain of battery)
Oh, and I also usually carry a few spare batteries around with me if I'm away from my charger for a day or two. That means I get more than a long-weekend's use even if I'm hammering the phone.

the whole "turning off wifi and 3g" arguement annoys me (same for i phone, along with turn down the screen brightness)
I dont want to be planning on saving teh battery everytime i use it - i want a battery that lasts a day - pref 2 - its called fit for purpose and I phones not having a replacement battery is teh biggest con of all

Ok just been to look at all the said phones.
- sensation is out, too fucking big I want a small phone and I have an iPad for all my multimedia needs.
- cba waiting for new I phone
- looked at the wildfire S and the desire. Have to say I liked the wildfire and is a perfect little pocket phone for me.
All I need it for is calls, texts, the odd email, a bit of surfing and photos. Any reason I shouldn't snap buy it? I know it's not as powerful as the other phones but I don't think my use will demand a powerful phone and I have my I pad for all other multimedia stuff anyway.
Any last comments to talk me out of it before I snap buy the wildfire S?

Not sure I understand. If you have a car that does 50mpg, would you not want it to be switched off when parked up doing nothing rather than left running and using fuel unnecessarily? Of course, you don't want it to cut the fuel when you need it, but why use it up when it's not required?
