Title: GUKPT Grand Final thread Post by: TightEnd on November 21, 2011, 03:06:43 PM The Curtain Rises on the GUKPT Grand Final…
The GUKPT is set to round off the 2011 Tour with a special extended Grand Final festival, held at the Grosvenor Victoria Casino from Monday 21st November until Sunday 4th December. Two full weeks of live tournament action will be hosted by the capital’s premier poker venue, its spacious 24 hour card room being the traditional final GUKPT host of the year. The £2,500 Main Event features a 25,000 starting stack and hour clock. Last year’s Grand Final Champion, Leon Bui, won a huge £144,905 after three days of play against some of the country’s top tournament players, and this year’s field looks set to match 2010 in terms of the fierce competition at the felt both for the £2,500 finale and the larger buy-in side events unique to this leg. Last-minute chances to qualify live at the venue abound, starting with Monday evening’s 10 Seats Guaranteed satellite, and continuing with the 2-day £600 + £75 Freezeout Super Satellite on Saturday afternoon. £350 + £35 Freezout Super Satellites also run on Wednesday and Thursday (1st December) so if you have not locked up a seat on grosvenorcasinos.com’s virtual felt then there are plenty of opportunities to come to enter the GUKPT’s heftiest tournament of the year. GUKPT Grand Final Schedule Monday 21st November: £300 + £30 NL Hold'em Freezeout Super Satellite 10 seats guaranteed 7.30pm (1 day) Tuesday 22nd November: £300 + £30 NL Hold'em Freezeout 7.30pm (2 days) Wednesday 23rd November: £250 + £25 NL Hold'em Re-Entry Freezeout 7.30pm (2 days) Thursday 24th November: £250 + £25 NL Hold'em 6 Max Freezeout 7.30pm (2 days) Friday 25th November: £300 + £30 PL Omaha Freezeout 7.30pm (1 day) Saturday 26th November: £600 + £75 NL Hold'em Freezeout Super Satellite to Main Event 4.00pm (2 days) Saturday 26th November: £150 + £15 NL Hold'em Turbo Freezeout 9pm (1 day) Sunday 27th November : £100 + £10 PL Omaha Rebuy 6.00pm (1 day) Monday 28th November: £200 + £20 NL Hold'em Freezeout 7.30pm (1 day) Tuesday 29th November: £350 + £35 NL Hold'em Freezeout 7.30pm (2 days) Wednesday 30th November: £350 + £35 NL Holdem Freezeout Super Satellite 7.30pm (1 day) Thursday 1st December: £350 + £35 NL Hold'em Freezeout Super Satellite 7.30pm (1 day) Thursday 1st December: £2,500 + £125 NL Hold'em Main Event Day 1a 12pm (3 days) Friday 2nd December: £2,500 + £125 NL Hold'em Main Event Day 1b 12pm (3 days) Saturday 3rd December: £250 + £25 Double chance PL Omaha Hi-Low 6.00pm (1 day) Sunday 4th December: £300 + £30 NL Hold'em Freezeout Bounty Booster 5.00pm (1 day) Title: Re: GUKPT Grand Final thread Post by: George2Loose on November 21, 2011, 03:34:30 PM The Curtain Rises on the GUKPT Grand Final… The GUKPT is set to round off the 2011 Tour with a special extended Grand Final festival, held at the Grosvenor Victoria Casino from Monday 21st November until Sunday 4th December. There was even one of Neil's Black Belt types winning a seat, hope he's not spending Black Belt money on a Grosvenor event or Neil will have to stop telling us his company doesn't support the tour any more :)

Obviously it is their sponsorship money and they can do what they like with it. They do rely on my input a little though and I told them I would rather put my money into the Stars tour which is not perfect, but which seems to try a bit harder for the customer. I know that if I had a customer at Black Belt who played £200,000 (the whole BBP team) worth of poker tournaments with me one year and £1090 (I played Luton) thenext I might wonder what I'd done wrong, I might communicate with them, I might try and win them back and I might listen to their complaints/criticisms. Obv Grosvenor don't work that way, best of luck to them in this market. My main complaint about the tour was dealing standards, followed by floor standards, followed by too many events at the wrong times in the wrong places. I don't have that problem in the Vic to the degree I would have in say, Blackpool (two years running at the crucial stage hands are mucked by dealers who are dozing off). Therefore I will play the main event next week safe in the knowledge that the Vic employs good dealers and the prizepool will be good. Title: Re: GUKPT Grand Final thread Post by: Bad Beat on November 25, 2011, 12:25:08 PM You'll be pleased to hear I ventured down to play the £250 6-max side event last night Jeff. Didn't see you.
Not sure about the Genting Tour Karl. I'm sure our guys will be playing them and I think they had to go for £400 or £500 (it seemed obvious Stars would go to £700 and I definitely don't see any problem with that, guaranteed it won't be the thing that effects the numbers - less telly coverage might). I didn't really like to spend a lot of money on time, hotels and travel to go and play the £500 UKIPT events, but I justified it because they had big fields (nice 1st prize), television exposure (love being on the gogglebox), interesting places to go (I went to Edinburgh twice, Brighton once, DTD once and Manchester once), winning carried a lot of prestige, they had a £1500 High-Roller which helped to make it worth travelling and I could pitch my wares to a bunch of players that might fit the Black Belt Poker profile. They also have good dealers and floorstaff and I like some of the people behind the tour. Which of those things can you offer me and would you think exposing lots of my players to a major competitor brand is a good idea? (obviously Stars is a competitor but I've long since accepted that all our players know lots about Stars and play on Stars and that if we can just make ourselves into everyone 2nd favourite poker site we'll be doing pretty well. We'd like to be the Fulham of poker. I haven't been in too much this week as I'm playing a bit of online. The iPops 1 on Monday had an $11,000 overlay, I think the $50 rebuy tonight with $150,000 guarantee will have one too. Don't really mean to come and spam here but iPoker really have got the guarantees wrong on these. It baffles me how they can't find somebody who knows about these things to speak to in advance. I told them the second they gave us details but apparently it was too late. The main event will be ridiculous. Since I've been involved in this business the levels of incompetence among senior people in the industry should suprise me more. They are staggering. Funding (currently due to the genorosity of donations) 2. Permission from the venues 3 Schedules (events may clash eg DTD, Genting and we don't know the look of the 2012 GUKPT yet) My list in order of prioirties would be 1 DTD Monte Carlos and Deepstacks. Possibly include Grand Prix too 2 UKIPT 3 GUKPT 4 Genting 5 Others In practice, with Genting doing their own blogging and permission being an issue at UKIPTs I would think we'd be doing well to do DTDs and one other tour, but that is entirely down to being able to afford it, as ever Title: Re: GUKPT Grand Final thread Post by: smashedagain on December 01, 2011, 07:55:43 PM is it me but is the live stream that D4 events produce nowhere near the quality of what awop used to do. even tower is having to wear two hats these days.

Are Kings No Good?? Lee Taylor makes it 2100 to play from the cutoff, Daniel Laming three bets from the small blind to 5100, Tamer Kamel then thinks for a while in the big blind before four-betting to 12,000. Lee quickly gets out of the way. Action comes back to Daniel who moves all in for 40,100 more (52,100 total). Tamer goes DEEP into the tank...... counting his stack and it would leave him with 20,000 if he was to make the call.... He checks his cards again, still in the tank for another few minutes... He then says "I'm going to live to fight another day" and folds pocket KINGS face up!! The rest of the table are pretty gobsmacked as was I. He's known, I think, as "40 year heater" in Luton, where he plays the regular £50's & £100's. His brother, Chandra, is known as a "philanthropic poker player", & in fact was very philanthropic last week. John Gale, too, WSOP PL Bracelet winner. Yes, old school, big time, but I like the man immensely, he was a good friend to me back in the day, & he's been unwell for some years. Cody, of course, would be the favourite to win this, & quite right too, the boy has everything. Amazing how, suddenly aslmost, the UK has 5 or 6 "Cody's", too. Guess an argument could be made for Moor, but he hasn't won one yet and I wouldn't put anyone within the 'Cody/Trickett' bracket yet Title: Re: GUKPT Grand Final thread Post by: tikay on December 04, 2011, 12:06:49 PM Cody, of course, would be the favourite to win this, & quite right too, the boy has everything. For sure there's a lot of great young UK players. I wasn't saying there weren't. Bar Trickett, none have come close to Jake's level of success. To save anyone else the time googling it. A stooge is a person who is under the control of another. Being called a stooge is an insult. Stooge can also sometimes be used to mean "idiot". You do know getting me on sky poker would put your ratings through the roof and elevate you to the god like status of Jeff stelling. ;bumwiggle; ;popcorn; Edit: I have never had relations with Janet Watson and am sorry for any offense I may have caused to their family and friends. [X] just need to get all the good people of Scunthorpe to sign up instead of viewing as guests and my work here is done Title: Re: GUKPT Grand Final thread Post by: mondatoo on December 04, 2011, 12:42:51 PM GLGL Jake.

The GUKPT Grand Final with its £138,750 top prize has been won by German pro player Fabian Quoss after a six-hour final table battle against tough opposition including triple crown winner Jake Cody and Irish Open champ James Mitchell. This huge win represents the first cash by Fulham-based Quoss on the tour - however he has been playing professionally for three years and has amassed more than $1.24 million on the live tournament circuit. After his sterling performance against a total field of 195, Quoss says that he “ran better than any time before,” enjoying two straight days of top cards. The modest London resident, 29, sums up his experience as “a pretty sick run.” He finally toppled Jake Cody heads up after the two of them had started the final table with half of the total chips in play spread equally between them. Cody narrowly fails to make the full set of trophies but took home £96,300 for his efforts. The final leg of the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour 2011 brought what might best be described as an ‘action field’ to the capital. The biggest buy-in event of the tour created a prize pool of £487,500 and the two-week festival running from the 21st November-4th December saw the Victoria Casino’s 24-hour card-room host 15 events alongside cash games running day and night. |
