In Bulgaria at the moment!

I have been here a lot in the last few years as my parents live out here. In the main it is very cheap for food and drink, weather is good during the summer and it is pretty safe etc.

Regarding stuff to do, it isn't one of those places where there are loads of sightseeing things to do, though it is quite a scenic country. I have not been to the black sea coastal resorts which is where most tourists go in the summer, so don't know how geared up for families they are.

thanks longy

just found a website that has made our minds up http://www.sunny-beach-bulgaria.com/tourist-information/day-trips-sunny-beach.php

but its always good to find out direct from people i think.

is the food geared up for English ?
(me and my eldest daughter are very fussy .....lol)

The food isn't spicy, mainly based around potatoes, veg and meat. They don't really do fast food, burgers, hot dogs etc. Lots of stews etc..., though Breakfast is a complete write off (Bulgarian idea of breakfast is coffee and a cigarette)

Having said that i would imagine Sunny beach caters for the British crowd and you will find English fry ups etc.

Sunny Beach is more 18-30's Lee, been twice  wouldn't go again with the kids.

LIke LOngy says though BUlgarira is dirt cheap so would give Golden Sands a try.

Benidorm would fit the bill, and not cost as much to get there. How olds the kids?

Benidorm is awful, stag do's only imo. Place is a massive crack/vice den, not safe to walk around alone late on + the ugliest place i've ever been #concretejungle.

Was there in September on  a stag do, 5 mugged out of 16 lads over 3 days  :D

Been to Sunny Beach last 2 years.

Went first year, and was best holiday I have had. Second time round it wasn't, full of 18 year olds! It is a mini Ibizia, only open in the Summer so would avoid.

Pokerfan- Thats because you were on a stag do, no doubt centred around the square which is awful. Avoid that area and its a great place.

Yeah obv, but it's more widespread than just the square.  Shocking  how the locals can let it get like that imo.

All the locals are in the old town, which is down to the beach and turn right and walk maybe 10 minutes the difference is unbelievable. I've done the stag do thing and thought it was just Blackpool in the sun. Holidayed with someone who knew the area and could'nt believe it.

Bulgaria is a poor country and the money being spent by these 18-30yo is big money to the average Bulgarian. Them giving the brits "what they think they want" is for the ££££££.

Ah had the misfortune to go there in my early 20's, it was still classier than Playa das Americas in Tenerife tho!

So we go to Bulgaria in like 12 days wiiiiii

Were staying at a 4 star hotel half board ..hotel Globus.

I thought I would learn a few words / phrases and found this

http://www.learn-bulgarian.net/subscribers-100-bulgarian-phrases-and-words/

Very similar to what I learnt in Bosnia........18 years ago

Which was called serbo/Croat if my memory serves me correctly maybe jjandellis or Geo will correct me !

I thought I would update this as we have now been home a few days!

The Hotel
The Globus 4star
Very nice friendly staff ( most of the time)
Clean interconnecting rooms, clean towels everyday
Facility's very good indoor and outdoor pools games room bowling alley etc
Food
Worst hotel food I have ever seen!!...cold, no varity, not even proper milk for tea/coffee
But after speaking to others from different hotels they where all as bad (everyone eats out)

eating out
We found two really nice restaurants
The Jupiter &
Djannys
Several that we're just ok!!
We paid  on average 60-75 leva £20-£30  for 5 of us (all adult meals) including drinks
Plus kids got free ice cream and we got shots!

Pint of beer average at 60p a pint !

Bad points on eating out
A lot of the food was just warm we think everything was pre cooked and re-heated
Me and Alison where both quite ill with bad gutts for days !!
Lewis a bit as well ....but the girls where fine!!

Sunny beach itself
Very busy ...but was the busiest week of the season
Loads to do for all of us
Water park
Shopping
Bars
Resturants
Go karting
Paint balling
Water sports
It has everything
The beach and sea fantastic

Bulgaria

What a beautiful country
We went on two trips
Blue mountains
A boat trip
Both good value.

We also went to old town nessebar
Which is really nice ....got on a bus (jammed in like sheep)for 40p each .....great place a lot of the boat trips go from the harbour here.

would we go again ?
Yes but not for 2 weeks was ready to come home!!

lee, looking to book up last minute with a couple of the lads, were all early 20's but not looking for your typical lads holiday to magaluf. obviously we'd like a bit of nightlife and ladies but not too in your face. would also like a few relaxing beachs/pools and bars to chill in. Reckon this place would fit the bill? is it mainly english working in the bars/hotels etc is the beer pretty cheap everywhere or just in the non touristy parts?

cheers

Will be bang on for that ^

More geared to the youths than families imo.

Beer cheap all over but dirt cheap a couple of rows back from the beach.  Globus is bang in the middle of it if you can get in there.
