Driving home from football in man A's car...

Police stop car and fine Man A £100 because man C wasn't wearing a seatbelt in the back seat.

a) £50 each
b) £100 for man A
c) £100 for man C

Technically it's the drivers responsibility to make sure everyone is wearing a seat belt, however, matey that wasn't should do the decent thing and pay the fine.

B + c's mixed up, but wouldn't expect driver to pay if it was me.

ok. what about if MAN B wasn't wearing one either? 33£ each?

Law says A pays but pretty sure that Man C pays this every time. (Maybe not if he was tied up and thrown on the back seat)

unless A is C's carer and therefore responsible for putting on his belt then anything other than C paying the lot is just laughable

Man B offended but wasn't caught? Probably doesn't HAVE to pay but might have been Police not being harsh or just can't issue a fine for same offence at one time. They've made their point and issued a fine.

If i get pulled by the fuzz and all my passengers dont have belts on do i get stumped with the lot? Pretty sure its ur own responsibility if your over 16.

You don't need to wear a seat belt if you're:

    a driver who is reversing, or supervising a learner driver who is reversing
    in a vehicle being used for police, fire and rescue services
    a passenger in a trade vehicle and you're investigating a fault
    driving a goods vehicle on deliveries that is travelling no more than 50 metres between stops
    a licensed taxi driver who is 'plying for hire' or carrying passengers

almost. passenger is classed as an adult and responsible for wearing a seatbelt once they hit 14

so girgs would be fined for a 13 year old not wearing one in his cab but not a 14 yo

Ty very much. How do they get a 14 year old to pay up. Does the fine then pass on to parents. Just asked my 8 year old nephew what he would do. He said he always puts his belt on coz my drivings awful :)

The seatbelt exemption for taxi drivers, which was last reviewed in 1993, is in place because of concerns that wearing a belt would make them more vulnerable to assault or robbery.

Sheriff Way said it was not certain that Mr McCabe's life would have been saved if he had been wearing a seatbelt, but added he could see no reason why taxi drivers should be exempt from the law.

He said: "The risk to the health and safety of both drivers and passengers which these regulations engender is, in my judgment, wholly disproportionate to the perceived risks to drivers of physical abuse and the like from passengers.

"In my judgment the exemption fosters an attitude of mind amongst taxi drivers that it is their professional 'right' to be exempt and acceptance of this blinds them to their own health and safety."

Sheriff Way said specially designed taxis all now had fully isolated taxi cabs to reduce the risk of assault or robbery and that private hire vehicles could be adapted in such a way.

If you are still driving Private Hire Girgy the law is/was you must wear a seatbelt when you don't have passengers in the car.

I know mate ;) I always wear mine anyway.
