Whoever does that job, there is a major rebuilding ahead. (Cech, Terry, Lampard, Drogba all need replacing in the next 18 months)

AVB didn't get the time to really start it, doubt Abramovic will give the next guy time to do it

he seems unwilling to throw the money at it he used to, I dread to think how much they have paid out to sacked manager.

Successive Chelsea youth teams have been good. All these teams have found their way blocked to the first team by foreign imports. Understandably, but less successfully in the last 18 months

This probably has to change. McEachran and others need to get their chance in this rebuilding

AVB's 3yr contract worth £14m. On top of that, CFC spent £28m paying off Ancelotti & Porto. Thus his 39-game reign cost over £1m a match.

Do you not think a half decent manager should be able to walk in to any team that's filled with world class players and be able to at least beat the likes of West Brom? (just using them as an example, they've been poor all season)   I just don't see how giving him more time would be of any benefit to the club in either the short term or the long term.  Martin O'Neill for example walks in to Sunderland and gets them playing better football pretty much straight away, not outstanding, but better than they were and I would think any monkey to be able to go to Man City and win a few games.  Similar with Chelsea, they have the team, they need managing, not completely clearing out.

Reputedly, a problem at Chelsea is a very strong dressing room and Player Power. Much more difficult to make an instant impact if the players think they know better.....

That's why they need a stronger manager.   A workman can't always get rid of his tools because he can't do his job.

Is it that good a team though? The back 4 is terrible.

appointing di matteo achieves nothing and jt lampard and cole will be overjoyed today

either appoint / back a new face or appoint jt/ lampard

A strong enough manager to counteract the player power isnt going to come to a struggling Chelsea side, especially without the CL next season.  So the puppet (Di matteo for now) will just be happy to be there, will give in to all the players demands.  GG having the 'spine of the team' still in place in 2/3 seasons time.

They needed a transitional season, maybe a season to early but still needed to be done.

AVB will have sympathy, and can walk into 90% of jobs in Europe with 20 mill in the ban

Haha would be too funny if JT and Lamps got the gig as joint managers!

Those senior players should be ashamed of themselves. No football club can have players dictating what happens.

The new manager will need to get rid and assert his authority.

You mean like AVB tried to do without the public backing of owner, other players or the fans.

Mourhino has apparently been spotted house hunting in London in last two weeks which either means he is in for the Chelsea job, spurs job or england job. Either way i think we will be seeing a lot more of the special one next season..

Which can only be a good thing

Mourhino back at Chelsea and just having him in the premier league would be so sick, please one time!!

AVB was doomed to failure from the start and was probably not the correct appointment in the first place.  The Chelsea squad is in need of a major overhaul, the spine of the time has all got old at the one time and there are a large number of other players who just aren't good enough.  You could get away with having the Malouda's, Kalou's, Mikel's in the squad when you had world class players along side them.  Now they no longer have that they are being shown up for what they are.  Distinctly average.

The biggest problem Chelsea have is the power Lampard,Terry and Drogba hold.  Again this was fine when they were world class operators but they are nowhere near that level yet still hold massive influence.  Perhaps a more experienced manager would have dealt with this situation better although there would still likely have been major resistance.  The new man needs to undertake a complete rebuilding job.  Personally I think Abramovich should have given AVB the time to build his own squad and backed him to the hilt with funds and supported his decisions but it was never going to happen.  The new man will have a very tough task on his hands and I predict the next 2 or 3 years at least will be tough for Chelsea unless they spend big and wisely.

Rafa Benetiz makes sense if Abramovich is determined that Torres is going to be given every possible chance to succeed at Chelsea.

AVB to Inter looks possible.

The problem at Chelsea is you need a manager with a strong personality to get the respect of senior players but a manager with a strong personality won't tolerate Abramovich calling the shots. Abramovich wants a yes man when a yes man wont work.

They need someone like Warnock to go in and tell Lamps and co. where to go :)

I think Leeds were a little better then the current Chelsea team, having just won the league and to be fair clough spent the previous 3 years saying how he hated Leeds and the players at Leeds were cheats and cons. Not a great comprison tbh.

Brilliant line from Brendan Rodgers on why he won't be leaving Swansea for Chelsea: "I'm trying to build my career, not destroy it."
