Title: Just sayin....
Post by: parker on April 25, 2012, 06:33:02 PM
Im new to the blonde community. Some of you know me from playing at luton, a few of you know me from here, but on the whole im an unknown.

Still.... Im an unknown keen on being part of the community (the hilarious banter), learning/improving my game and helping others (although thats unlikely!)

Something I feel I want to make absolutley crystal clear is that I will not be reaching 300 posts and asking to be staked.

I find the mere thought of it beyond cheeky.

Im sure I would benefit from an outragous proposition but thats missing the point...

Im not someone that has a lot of money in life. Im far from any sob story... but ive made my own way in life from a young age. Life happens.

Not a winning poker player, but a player that does a little better than breakeven.

i have 50 dollars in my stars account, i grind 3.50/7 dollar turbo sngs, when i make 100 (or need the cash) i cash back out down to 50. (still a losing account from my degen - life not happened yet times but on the up!) I have bills to pay and a retarded car to fuel (rather have a fast car than do my balls on booze and drugs FTW)

I have had some final table results live, my fair share of retarded, he runs well [ ] and in the past done okay playing 20nl on someone elses account to learn my faults and eventually get grinding.

But.....

I play when I can afford to or when a close friend/poker mentor/well respected poker and utter life degenerate insists. Often if I have/built a roll, life gets in the way and i have to start again and im totally cool with this.

Although I feel my game has massivley improved, (backed up from people whos opinion holds weight with me) to ask a community for money, just because theyre obviously more affluent than me is utterley ridiculous and outright ****ish. Personally I would class this as begging.

This is in no way intended at a specific post on this site, merely my own thoughts.

I fear that new members to this community may be tarnished with a brush - a target of getting 300 posts.

This may seem a little brash and possibly, even, that butter wouldnt melt in my mouth (far from it at the table i can be THAT guy that doesnt shut up) but i have respect for other players on the whole and as people... I wouldnt ask for anyone elses money. It is their hard earned.

Not going to lie when i first joined this site and viewed the staking thread the oppurtunities that seem to be there for a trusted player are outstanding. I long for the day that after having some serious results, Im approached to be staked.

But until the day I feel their money is in as safe hands as possible I would never even dream of suggesting it. I dont feel like I have an insane edge in any game and I doubt there are more than 0.1% of players at any level that have any edge in their field. I would think its probably relative to their buy in.

Im trying not to repeat myself and say the same crap over and over so I'll just shut up now.

But im concluding that just because staking happens, doesnt mean its there for the taking.

Obviously peoples moneyzzzzz is their own personal thing... who am i to suggest what people should do with it.

I hope that this doesnt come across as some reverse give me your life kind of thread. My sentiment is just of something that completely wound me up. Im doing it the hard way so why should a mouth with balls get a better shot.

Maybe its a whole too proud to beg scenario. Maybe if i grew a pair of worldly bollox and didnt care about how much of a tool i looked i might get a shot. But how cool would it be to be a regular winning player knowing you did it off your own back!

Its payday on Monday so maybe ill see you at the g soon! Say hello, I may even buy you a pint if you dont ask

How on earth could you read that post and pick up on ANY kind of jealousy?!?

What could I possibly be jealous of?!

There is a definative culture of brown nosing on this site and being a sheep. All I was doing was speaking my mind.

As for implying I had some backwards motive.... If i was offered to be staked by anyone that I dont consider a close friend I would turn it down.

also...

If youre going to make a pety comment showing you obviously havnt read the thread properly and then not reply to it how am I a timewaster?

In reality there are degrees of appropriateness of being a straight shooter, sometimes its right, sometimes its wrong. I personally operate quite regularly in the grey area, that's all I was trying to say, although I know others don't like that, but we are all different and that's just life.

I'm new to the Blondie community.

This may seem a little brash and possibly, even, that butter wouldnt melt in my mouth (far from it at the table i can be THAT guy that doesnt shut up) but i have respect for other players on the whole and as people... I wouldnt ask for anyone elses money. It is their hard earned.

I have had some final table results live, my fair share of (B)retarded, he runs well [ ] and in the past done okay playing 20nl on someone Else's account to learn my faults and eventually get grinding.

But.....

Although I feel my game has massively improved, (backed up from people who's opinion holds weight with me) to ask a community for money, just because they re obviously more affluent than me is utterly ridiculous and outright ****ish. Personally I would class this as begging.

To be frank, I'm not going to rip the whole thread to pieces because I haven't got time. But...

This may seem a little brash and possibly, even, that butter wouldnt melt in my mouth (far from it at the table i can be THAT guy that doesnt shut up) but i have respect for other players on the whole and as people... I wouldnt ask for anyone elses money. It is their hard earned.

You say butter wouldn't melt in your mouth?? Please see bold references A and B - you manage to use the word "retarded" not as a one time slip of the tongue, but TWICE in 2 sentences. This leads me to believe that you are a) full of sh!t and b) not very intelligent. Please see http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2134999/Shock-Rupert-Murdoch-refers-David-Camerons-son-retarded-testimony-Leveson-Inquiry.html as a recent case of why this is unacceptable. He is however 81 and occasionally senile. From your posts I'm assuming you're early twenties and the "fast" car you're referring to is a VTR or GTI of some description - or worse, a "flashy" BMW that's about 10 years old and worth a couple of grand - If this is not the case and you're older than that then there really is no excuse for your ignorance.

As a side note to that, for the second reference in which you refer to you "retarded" car, you say that you would

Rather have a fast car than take drugs

Could you please explain to me where to two became a mutually exclusive necessity? When I drop my son off at the school I see people with fast cars, I presume it's safe to assume they don't take drugs? The rather worrying side of that is I drive a lovely little car that doesn't go very fast, does that mean I should be speedballing meths and passing out crack to the kids?? Unless your comment is a thinly veiled attempt at some kind of congratulations with a "look at me, I'm smart and talked to Frank and listened when Mr T. said don't do drugs"??

With regards to the bolded sentence regarding "affluence".

Although I feel my game has massively improved, (backed up from people who's opinion holds weight with me) to ask a community for money, just because they re obviously more affluent than me is utterly ridiculous and outright ****ish. Personally I would class this as begging.

This is where your perceived immaturity comes shining through in my opinion, almost as if you have based your view soleley on how much money someone has without taking into account their personal situation. From your post it seems you don't have much money or responsibilty either. You regularly need to cash out £30+ from your stars account to pay for bills and spend a lot of money on fuel for your "fast" car. We have a 3 bedroom house for the 4 of us, we have a small family car and a company car. We have childcare costs for two children, school uniforms to buy, nappies, babysitters, prams, pushchairs... the list quite literally seems endless and to be quite frank I have zero spare cash at the end of the month. So what's my point? Well you see. I play poker regularly at a low stake level and do ok recreationally with my tiny account on SkyPoker. I am however enormously +ev in live tournaments at the £10-100 buy-in level thanks to regular min-cashes and a big £2k+ score last year (for those buy-in prices that's not too shabby) - not because I have an "insane edge" as Mr. Black might refer to it, it's because I ran well. I don't have a roll, I have a family and don't have the time to build both so I chose one over the other. So if there was a £150-£500 buy-in tourney on and I was free I could put up a staking request, put my achievements on it, outline my intentions and effectively lay an offer on the table to see if there were any takers. The "more affluent" on here can then make an informed decision if they would like to back me or not. Most "affluent backers" will go on far more than just a staking request. If they do not know the person directly they will go on previous posts, PHA thread comments, skype conversations, referrals and all sorts of evidence both +ev & -ev. If a "beggar" asks me if I can spare any change for a hot drink I don't quiz him on his previous employment history, job interview techniques, dress sense or question why he should be given my hard earnt 10 pence... (or question any mark-up)

See this thread for my "Mr Black" reference and a reason why Staking threads are good. An initial request is taken badly but just read through and see that massive positives came from it from both sides... http://blondepoker.com/forum/index.php?topic=57492.0

You can see the staking threads as a beggars thread and if that's your prerogative then so be it. I see it in a very different light and am thankful that something like it exists and can't see why it can be anything but positive!

I'll admit I "bit" at the flippant use of the "retarded" and appreciate I may have come across a little strong. But I hope that the second part of my mini-rant explains my point.

Now how about we settle this in the old fashion way and play hu 4 rollz - I'm going to put up a staking thread to cover me, if you're interested I'm selling at 1.1... ;)

Massive +1. Pic n Mix are too good. Even though they do cost like £50 when you weigh in. Always leave the snakes til last.

I'm a nit, a cunningly hidden giant back of Harribo starmix usually finds it's way in with us. As well as the trusty camelback reservoir filled with morrisons own double-strength Apple and Blackcurrant squash - I can barely justify the ticket price, never mind the sweets. I'm fairly certain that gram for gram the sugar in them works out more expensive than gold - at least that's how it feels!!

I have salt and sugar on my 'cooked until it's solid' porridge.

Boooo to Haribo and their weird European-style adverts. I'm sure it's good shiz but all feels a bit Belgian or summit. Gimme good old British cola bottles yep.

Cinemas are massively reliable on folk spending in the foyer. The mugs buying their salty or sugary bits of cardboard with its 95% profit margins keep them ticking over.

Haribo are bloody excellent. That's partly the reason we're part of Europe.

Obviously they're not as good as Maoam though, or their sweet wrappers:

Going back to the OP.

300 posts means nowt except you can ask for staking.

The chances of a new poster getting staked if he has no record or no-one knows him are slimmer than Woodsey would be if he hadn't discovered a popcorn addiction.

The nut sweets now are Percy Pig and Colin the Caterpillar from Marks and Spencer.

They now get smuggled in my pockets when I go to the cinema.

Percy Pigs are flavoured perfectly.  Just don't get enough in a bag imo.  They're not just sweets, they're expensive sweets.

Well I'm quite looking forward to getting to the gargantuan 300 posts . Taking almost 3 years to achieve and going bust several times in the process I can't wait to put up some ridic + ev staking / begging requests. After all me and the Terrier need to eat and it beats chopping wood  in the rain for peanuts.
May even win for all those would be stakers out there.

' it could be you '

: )

As this is my eighth post (a true blonde newbie) I now only have 292 to go before my staking request. So look out for it around next Tuesday.

Seriously though, I will not say anything negative about decent staking posts cos I wouldn't want to be hypocritical if I do ever decide to enter the world of staking requests. Though at the rate I am posting that wont be for a very very long time.

Seems a lot of Blondie's are Luton regs so I should know you and maybee you me as I have been a reg there as well, although not so much recently. I'm Terry.

I busted the in £110 there last night and going back for more tomorrow, Day 1b re-entry

I mostly go in search of medium buy in live tournaments with good structures.

Its a shame because Luton used to run decent daily tournaments which were good for getting a fix between the bigger events but they have slashed the clocks to 25 Min's on most days so I have given them a miss. Do occasionally play Sunday night though.

Before you all jump on the 'Oh my god what is she thinking' bandwagon, dont knock it till you try it. It really is something special. :)
