The prices are $499 in the States for the basic version of the new one and £399 here so you save about $100 all told but as Woodsey said it is a different plug but they are fairly cheap to buy I think and the adaptor is the same.

If you want 3G just check out the right oner get, I think it's the AT&T one. I'm getting my 3 in Vegas to replace my dead 1

If you're using it mostly for movies and TV shows I would definitely go with (at least) a 32GB iPad 3. You'll need 32GB to fit a reasonable amount of movies/episodes and the higher resolution screen on the new device will be more satisfactory for viewing. A power plug for an apple product is what £10? The warranty is intl, you can take it to any apple shop.
