Title: England Cricket Summer 2012
Post by: Woodsey on May 18, 2012, 11:45:10 PM
Need a thread I guess to kick it off for this year  :)

I find it interesting how often the guys under the spotlight often pull it out of the bag, glad Straussy did it though (http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c168/WildCat69/banners/f-cricketuk2.gif)

Who cares, let's not look for the negatives, if it gets him back in form for the main event against the saffies it doesn't really matter  :)

Meh, we should thump the Windies in truth. The South Africa series is the true test and should be really good.

Got tickets for the Sunday of the Trent Bridge test, love going to the cricket.

KP quits international one day cricket.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/cricket/18280196

Well, he tried to only quit 50 over games, but the ECB said that 50 over and 20/20 come as a pair - you can't quit one and play the other - so just before the World 20/20 we lose our best player.

Sigh.

Stupid rule he can't play 20/20 especially given the selection policies for both forms England (and every other country have). Our 50 over captain doesn't even play 2020!

I agree Longy its like were shooting ourselves in the foot i dont like making exceptions just to help one player but surely the ecb could say you can play 20/20 world cup and retire after that if you want

I think its understandable to try and maximise revenue for him the 50/50 format and 20/20 international just arent there at the minute. Test match cricket will always be the hight of someones career and im glad hes stuck with it.

Buit when you can make hundreds of thousands of pounds for a few weeks "work" over in india i think he would be mad not to take that up for the last few years of his career!

Not on sale yet, I have mates who will be on priority lists for both venues and nothing has happened so far.

After so long relying on quicks, it looks like the Windies' future may lie in spin. Some mystery spinner is going to get his debut this week.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2012/jun/06/the-spin-email-sunil-narine

Will be interesting to see what impact he has, given how much our players fell apart against spin in the winter, even if a soggy, cold Edgbaston is hardly a spinner's paradise.

I have a ticket for Friday and have an unbroken record of not losing any play for rain or bad light over my years of watching Tests. I fear that record will go this year and I'll be spending Friday morning in a Birmingham pub.

Been a hell of a test match.

Why are we only playing 3 tests against South Africa again?

Thank god to be honest cause we've been quite comfortably outplayed. Dont think our bowling attack is 100% sharp, the top 3 look nervy and out of touch, our fielding has been quite shabby with costly drops which really isn't like us recently. Also the kp thing can't have helped!!

That philander is something like!!

We play India next and, if we win that series, we get the mace back.

SA apparently only play 3 match series, with occasional back-to-back home and aways, like they did with Australia.

We've been outplayed in all departments but we shouldn't get too disheartened by it

Also, I was kinda gutted when Boucher retired, because I actualy think them having ABD keep wicket massively strengthens their team. And I don't think there's any world 11 ever that jacques kallis wouldn't get into, just oozes class

Might I just add how pleased I was with today's performance by the mighty Bears for their - at least thus far - demonlition of Worcs at New Road? We are edging closer to that championship.

With no Bell and no Trott, we have still managed to get runs. Missing Woakes on Lions duty and in ODI squads has been frustrating, too. Really believe Woakes could be a genuine player at England level. About time someone tapped Bopara on the shoulder and told him he's had his chance(s) and now it's time to step aside.
