Was meant to happen the other day but the weather wasn't right.  Amazing stuff.

Apparently he'll break the sound barrier within 30 seconds of the jump as the air is so thin, and after a while will slow down to below the speed of sound because the density of the air as it becomes thicker.

Mad stuff!

Felix Baumgartner is the bloke doing the ascent and then dive. He's a skydiver from Austria.  He's a bit mental.

28,000m up now - so that's getting close to four times the height of Mt Everest and already three times the height an airliner cruises at.

@FelixBaumgart Live from space! World you are beautiful.

Now gone beyond 115,000ft - so now the highest ever manned balloon flight.

It's taken him 2 hours 5 minutes to get to 35.3Km - which is slower than the elite marathon runners travel - but a little faster than I can run :D

About to do what they're calling the "egress checklist" before the jump.

1. Have you got your keys?
2. Have you switched the iron off?
3. Have you been to the toilet?

bit special that, thought he'd lost it at one point he seemed to be spinning out of control at about 700mph unreal.

Hadn't realised that the bloke at mission control who was taking Baumgartner through the checks before the jump was Joe Kittinger!
