Title: Cruise Chronicles, Day 5 Post by: tikay on January 18, 2006, 02:40:06 PM Well, after what seems a lifetime, I was awoken this morning by a phone call - the phone has not worked since leaving Miami. And at last, the Lappie has fired up. The 'phone call was from the Channel 425 show "4/5", & they want me to do a live phone-in this afternoon, Spamming this week's Poker 425, at around 5pm UK I believe. It's 10.30am here, as I write. How surreal. So, while the connection lasts, I am gonna get some pics & stuff Posted. Oh, where are we? Moored in the Port at Antigua. Being cut off from you guys for so long was horrible. Never realised I woild miss you all so much. Title: Re: Cruise Chronicles, Day 5 Post by: charmaine on January 18, 2006, 02:44:06 PM I was actually worried about you Tikay , must be my motherly side coming out .

OK, here come the pics, and as a special "thank you" to all the blonde Ladies, here's a little beefcake. Careful though, he's spoken for, eh Anna? This is Nottingham Nick. [attachment deleted by admin] Title: Re: Cruise Chronicles, Day 5 Post by: tikay on January 18, 2006, 02:58:39 PM Ruthlesss's Post? I suggested she Posted a question on the Forum, & promised her she would get lots of help. I've not seen it - yet - but I am sure you were all dead helpful. She was reluctant to Post, because she Posted "elsewhere" & got flamed to bits, & I promised her it would not happen here.
One last Nottingham Nick pic. This is typical of a guy having his pic taken - note the "breathe in" posture....... Title: Re: Cruise Chronicles, Day 5 Post by: tikay on January 18, 2006, 03:01:45 PM More beefcake. This is Fattymara. No idea how he gets that name. Luckily, I caught him in a good mood. You should see him when he's in a bad mood.

This was the sight we awoke to yesterday - Tortola, British Virgin Islands. Dunno why it's called "Virgin" though. [attachment deleted by admin] Title: Re: Cruise Chronicles, Day 5 Post by: tikay on January 18, 2006, 03:07:44 PM ...and another view of Tortola, BVI.

[attachment deleted by admin] Title: Re: Cruise Chronicles, Day 5 Post by: langboy on January 18, 2006, 03:11:37 PM Tikay,
In Heritage Quay (which is the port you have docked in, in Antigua) there is a duty free shop. Just walk straight on after you leave the jetty for about 150 yards (pass Kings Casino on your left and you are nearly there) and you can pick up 200 fags for something like 13 US dollars !!!! This is the cheapest you will find smokes in the whole world, mate. So stock up while you can The shop is on the left and is under an overhang, behind and beside an electrical shop...failing that ask anyone where the chepest liquor store is, and that will get you there too...or look for someone with mauveish-pinkish duty free carrier bags. ;) Give my regards to St Johns. Mike Title: Re: Cruise Chronicles, Day 5 Post by: tikay on January 18, 2006, 03:17:26 PM I was dining alone when I was joined by this man - Bruce "Elvis" Atkinson whilst I was having an open-air breakfast on deck this morning. How WONDEREFUL! Scrambled eggs, baked beans, toast, tea, ....... PS - Get the shirt. [attachment deleted by admin] Title: Re: Cruise Chronicles, Day 5 Post by: tikay on January 18, 2006, 03:21:21 PM Thanks Mike. Here's another Antigua view. [attachment deleted by admin] Title: Re: Cruise Chronicles, Day 5 Post by: langboy on January 18, 2006, 03:28:46 PM For what its worth,
In the photo above, the light blue building just left of centre is the office which I used to work in and is currently where a fellow blonde (Cromaa) is working.....Hi Steve! On the right is a brown and fawn coloured building which is a very plush but still unused hospital. It was built by the previous (but corrupt) government, who spent so much money building the place, they forgot to budget for all the hospital equipment and fittings that are needed to run a hospital efficiently. Also, there is currently a major power outage in Antigua which has knocked out power to many of the offshore bookmakers based there...Including the one that I work for. >:( Title: Re: Cruise Chronicles, Day 5 Post by: tikay on January 18, 2006, 03:30:29 PM We had better mention Poker I guess, so here's a Pic which neatly links to poker.
On the left, 2005 World Series star Conor Tate, who has 7 kids, & seems to have most of them with him on the boat. They are very well-mannered, even saying "how do you do, pleased to meet you" & shaking hands. Lovely. Middle is skalie, aka Jon Kulmer, who is leading the Main Event by a good way, (with blondeite Stuart Fox in 2nd, whahoo, a blondeite 1-2). On the right, is Marc Goodwin, aka blondeite Mr Cool, who is leading the $500 event, which is down to the last 6. I busted out of the $500 in about 35th place, it was a 260 runner field, & the $$$'s were in sight. A sort of misunderstanding arose, and all the chips went in when I held K-Q on a K-J-T flop, which I thought was pretty decent for me. But the geezer with J-T was thinking along the same lines, & there being no improvement on turn & river, that was that. Excuses, excuses..... I reckon the girlie is saying, "John, I've always loved you, we shall meet again in heaven, & I shall transprt you there in my heart, which is yours forever". And he's saying "how we fixed for one last bit of humpy pumpy?"....... Title: Re: Cruise Chronicles, Day 5 Post by: tikay on January 18, 2006, 03:54:15 PM Boo! Trust you to lower the tone. Totty? Can't say I've noticed. Sat next to a stunningly beautiful French lady last night in the $1-$2 game. Hair pulled back - love that - sort of, I dunno, long hot pants, they came down to just below her kneees, & a loose, off the shoulder top, with, so far as one could tell, no, err, "means of support". Not that I noticed. The old pulse was racing, I can tell you. Heres another Antigua view, I love Mike's feedback. [attachment deleted by admin] Title: Re: Cruise Chronicles, Day 5 Post by: tikay on January 18, 2006, 04:03:16 PM Chili! You wanna see me in action? Careful what you wish for....... Hope the "business business" is going to plan. Jen & snoops have sloped off to Copenhagen, least that was how I left it, the lucky blighters, while I'm here in Antigua, & you are in Grantham. Life's unfair sometimes, eh?
Just a quick aside to anyone who is awaiting a reply from me. There are, inevitably, a heap of unanswered PM's in my inbox. Bear with me, I'll respond as soon as I can, I just wanna get these pics up first. Here's "The Main Man" - Mr Jesse May. Am thinking of getting a bandana like Jesse's. What you reckon? [attachment deleted by admin] Title: Re: Cruise Chronicles, Day 5 Post by: tikay on January 18, 2006, 04:08:00 PM Would you believe it? Was strolling along the deck, & this coouple approached me - "are you tikay?". Hehe, gotta love THAT. We get chatting, turns out they live in Denmark, but they are both avid blonde readers, & they think the Live Updates are THE best. They said they are "very funny", I said they are not supposed to be bloody funny......And they said "and Denmark is NOT in Norway". What? Whatever makes them think that? [attachment deleted by admin] Title: Re: Cruise Chronicles, Day 5 Post by: Sunday8pm on January 18, 2006, 04:09:25 PM tikay i dont think a bandana would be any good, looks like you got a skinhead! ;)
Title: Re: Cruise Chronicles, Day 5 Post by: tikay on January 18, 2006, 04:15:09 PM I mentioned the other day that I thought World Heads-Up champ Peter Gunnarsen had put a bit of weight on - facially mainly, & he looks well on it. Maybe that's what love does to a fella. Here he is with his beloved.

[attachment deleted by admin] Title: Re: Cruise Chronicles, Day 5 Post by: langboy on January 18, 2006, 04:21:11 PM Aha!!!
The picture about 4 posts ago (with the blue barge in the foreground) looks like an area to the north of St Johns which is a bit shanty-ish, to put it politely. It is an area of dubious doings and the occasional trading of wacky-backy and stronger substances takes place at this end of town. I have been told there is a Night Club in the neighbourhood where, if the DJ plays a tune (reggae music kinda thing) that the yardies really like, they fire off rounds of ammunition into the ceiling which is corrugated iron!!!! :o This is a story which reached me third hand during my 1½ years in Antigua, but I can honestly say I have no first hand experience of that particular establishment. Title: Re: Cruise Chronicles, Day 5 Post by: tikay on January 18, 2006, 04:30:40 PM These two, espying I was sitting alone, came & joined me for a drink. He is either Hale or Pace, I can't recall which, but he's deffo one or the other, at least that's what someone told me. I gather they are comedians. I remarked how alike he looked to one of my great heroes, the much-maligned Lord Archer, he did not seem impressed at all. The Lady - who is either his Sister, or his wife, I forget which (I think it is his sister) reminded me SO much of one of the "Two Fat Ladies" who used to be TV cooks. I said "you remind me of someone, but I don't think I had better mention who". "Tell me, tell me" she implored, "PLEASE". So I said, "well, a MUCH younger, & VERY much slimmer version of one of the Two Fat Ladies". At which she slaps me, walks off in a huff, & has not spoken to me since. Meanwhile, Hale - or is it Pace - says "serves you right tikay, but fair play mate, you are a braver man than me". Women are so weird, but you gotta love them. Your suc a name dropper tikay! Title: Re: Cruise Chronicles, Day 5 Post by: tikay on January 18, 2006, 07:05:22 PM Now, bear with me, this is convoluted. Today it's the $10,000 Ladies Freeroll. I was priveleged & surprised to be asked to "help the ladies" last night, in a sort of "poker training/coaching" session, most of the Ladies have never played poker, & need a bit of help before tonight's comp. So, 30 ladies showed up, split into 3 tables, one table had Roy Brindley as their mentor, another had John Gale, & the third table drew the short straw, me. We had a GREAT time, I got them all revved up blonde Bash style. Every time a pot went off, they were all high-fiving & whooping & hollering, it was wicked. The other 2 tables broke after an hour, but we carried on for hours, until we got thrown off, they wanted the tables for cash games. It was SO satisfying. I was wandering around on deck this morning, & the lady in the pic below, who was one of my "pupils" last night, said "hi" & thanked me for the fun we all had last night. Now it gets spooky. She said "I know you, you helped my daughter out a few weeks back"........ Sheesh, beads of sweat appeared, I am thinking, I've been good for ages, what have I done? She went on "you recorded a TV Programme just before Christmas. 6 newbies get trained by you in "live" poker, & then play a comp. You wrote to one of the contestants afterwards, said how well it had gone, & that person, who'se name was ******* ******, is my daughter-in-law". What? 'Tis true - the "contestent" in question is blondeite Sn8wQueen, & perhaps on of you at home will send Sn8WQueen a PM, with a link to this thread, she will be THRILLED to see Mum-in-Law's pic. Not done yet, here's the real spooky bit. The TV Programme was the Sporting odds Peoples Poker Challenge, it's being aired for the first time TONIGHT on Channel 226. Think it's been re-named "Power Zone" or summat similar. We recorded it just before Christmnas, & I only put the commentary on it last Friday, for which I had to delay my flight to Miami. We are gonna record Episode 2 the week after next, 6 new contestants, & we are recording it in a VERY special, & VERY famous, venue, at least, famous to film buffs. It will be in a Gym in Repton, and the comp will be played in a boxing ring, the very ring featured in Guy Ritchie's Lock Stock & 2 smoking barrels. So there you go. A chance encounter with a blondeite's mother-in-law in Antigua, & I somehow turn that into a spam for a TV show I made. Is there no end to my vanity? PS - Connectivity here is awful, can a Mod or someone send a PM to Sn8WQueen please, linked to this - thanks! [attachment deleted by admin] Title: Re: Cruise Chronicles, Day 5 Post by: tikay on January 18, 2006, 07:16:44 PM Sorry At-It, it's a rotten job, but it's gotta be done.
You want name-dropping? Here's Mad Marty Wilson - note he is not talking. There's a first. He's not as bad as some peeps make out, not exactly renowned for stimulating conversation or deep thought, but he has great enthusiasm, and it's hard to dislike him. He has blotted his copybook once or twice down the years, but has fell on his feet with Sir Barry Hearn, for whom he works very hard. No idea how he came to be not speaking when I took the pic. We shared the opening table in the Main Event, & the bugger moved all-in on me after I made it 300 to go with 8-8. He made it 10,000! AK, obviously & patently. I bottled it. It's hardly subtle, thinking man's poker, but it's difficult to play against, & each to his own. It gave Marty great satisfaction to go running round the cardroom "I went all-in on tikay on the second hand". The players were all laughing too. Not entirely sure whom they were laughing at, mind..... Bless him. [attachment deleted by admin] Title: Re: Cruise Chronicles, Day 5 Post by: tikay on January 18, 2006, 07:28:41 PM Here's another villain of the peace, Roy The Boy Brindley.
He has earned himself a bad name in some quarters, his TV Commentaries in particular are too blunt, some would say rude, for many viewers. I can only speak as I find. He & I exchange e-mails from time to time, & he's always been very civil to me. Knowing I am alone on the Boat, & seeing as everyone else is with their partners, he & his partner, the really lovely Mags Manton, of The Merrion Club, invited me to dinner the night before last, which was most kind of him. We had soup, & starter, & then they gave us this sort of sorbet mouthwash "palate cleanser" they called it, followed by Pork, then Cherry Jubilee for afters. Lovely. No pie though. [attachment deleted by admin] Title: Re: Cruise Chronicles, Day 5 Post by: tikay on January 18, 2006, 07:39:32 PM It's a super-duper ship, & I'm very lucky to be here. But it's been crossed off the tick list, & I don't believe I would do it again, at least, not unless I had a partner/companion. I hate queuing, & we have to queue for literally everything. It takes an hour to queue for Brekkie, an hour to get your seat allocation for each comp, & I just can't be doing with queues, never have. And it's very "Corporate". Take this, as an example, which I find wryly amusing in SO many different ways, though maybe I'm just a weirdo. In my Cabin, a bottle of water appeared on Day Two."Dannon Natural Spring Water", very nice. Attached to it, via sellotape, was this note, which I reproduce word for word....... "To quench your thirst, Celebrity Cruises is pleased to provide this bottle of water. Please note that for your convenience, we will automatically bill you $2.95 plus 15% gratuity, to your Celebrity Sea Pass Account, should you choose to open and/or consume this. Thank you. Celebrity Cruises". I guess you think I'm ungrateful, but you'd be wrong. I guess you think I'm a cynic. You'd be right. I hate Corporate. The Americans have a trick or two to learn when it comes to PR, & People Skills. That Bottle of Water note has to be the clumsiest piece of Corporate Speak I've seen in many a year, but they think it's wonderful. Bless 'em. I will try & post the situation in the Main Event & $500 before we do. If I fail, we arrive in St Marteen in less than 12 hours, hopefully there will be internet access there.
Here's one for the Walsall Boys. [attachment deleted by admin] Title: Re: Cruise Chronicles, Day 5 Post by: tikay on January 18, 2006, 10:32:48 PM Another one of Antigua, as the sun goes down. Title: Re: Cruise Chronicles, Day 5 Post by: RED-DOG on January 18, 2006, 10:59:14 PM What is this life, if full of care
We have no time to stand and stare But then alas, we are aware We can't, cos we're not bloody there Title: Re: Cruise Chronicles, Day 5 Post by: tikay on January 18, 2006, 11:00:10 PM Holding hands Tracey? I was hoping for more. The picture? For the technically minded, it was taken on a Nikon 67ZZ3, with high speed prolax reactor, 16/32 shutter speed, on Agfa 98hpm film, with a delayed exposure to accentuate the sunset, & developed it in a special, secret, compound. Mum in-law played in the Womens Free-Roll yesterday - still waiting to see results on Ladbrokes. Enjoy the rest of the cruise. 8) Title: Re: Cruise Chronicles, Day 5 Post by: SKIPPYSKIP on January 19, 2006, 01:43:37 PM Some great pictures tikay, glad to see you have fun

Title: Re: Cruise Chronicles, Day 5 Post by: snoopy1239 on January 20, 2006, 01:01:14 AM Well it's hardly the Steward's fault - correction, "Stateroom Attendant" - in my case, a young Phillipini boy, name of Pascoal D'Costa, who's prob earning 3 quid a week. I don't get upset or cross or mad at these things, they just amuse me. And it amuses me even more that the Americans fall for it. How dumb do you have to be not to see through that? There's another note in my Cabin telling me "for my convenience & pleasure" that they have installed a telephone especially for me. And I can use it for $7.95 per minute. It's a bargain folks. I know!? A celebrity?! Well, they're not pulling the wool over my eyes. This must have been sent to the wrong room. |
