Title: Ippy help please. Post by: tikay on February 07, 2013, 11:02:48 AM I have an i-Pad, not sure what spec, but I have had it for nearly 2 years. It is NOT 3G enabled. I have previously been able to get stuff like "SKY GO" without a problem, until two weeks ago. I now get a Message saying, something like, "you need to upgrade to allow the latest features" bla bla bla. When I try to install the latest App Update, I get this message..... UPDATE REQUIRED This app requires iOS 5.1 How do I get, or do that, please? Title: Re: Ippy help please. Post by: bobAlike on February 07, 2013, 11:06:27 AM Settings->General->Software Update

Title: Re: Ippy help please. Post by: outragous76 on February 07, 2013, 11:07:34 AM Im surprised your settings tab doesnt have a little "1" next to it telling you thta its time for an update of software.
If its an older i-pad, plug it in to your computer and do a standard backup and update, your laptop/PC should ask do you want to update software, say "yes" - give yourself and hour or 2! It does, but it does not tell me how to Update it. When you say "plug it into my computer"......how, where, with what? It has no cables that I know of (I still have the original box, so they may be in there). What do I do if I find the cables? Plug it in & then what? Title: Re: Ippy help please. You will need to stay with the process clicking various options, but when the i pad screen goes black, with a little silver updating bar on it, you could squueze in your afternoon nap at that point ;) Title: Re: Ippy help please. I had assumed you have i tunes, as I thought you needed it to set up your ipad on day 1. Did you buy this new? Yes, (see previous Post) the man in the Shop got me to sign up to ITunes, & that was it, I went home & started using it. As it happens, I've never been able to use the e-mail functuion for some reason, it does not work, but I'm not fussed. I have a Yahoo e-Mail Account I have had for 20 years or so, & that does not seem to work on the i-Pad - I can receive e-Mails, & see them, but I cannot reply to them. Title: Re: Ippy help please. Is there anything on this I pad you dont want to lose? Not sure what you mean by that? I just use it to get on blonde when I not in front of the PC, & place bets occasionally if I am not at home. Also for SkyGo. Think that's about it really. I took a photo of a reservoir with it once but don't know how to download it. Title: Re: Ippy help please. Post by: outragous76 on February 07, 2013, 01:05:22 PM Apple store is a great shout! Do that! The good thing is, when you update to the next operating software, the I Pad can then self update without a PC! So get this one out of the way and you are flying! Yes, I was referring to photos, notes, contacts, whatever you store on it really. Doesnt sound like you keep too much on there (which in your case is good) As far as the photo is concerned, get the Apple people to set up your email account properly, so that you can send e-mails, and just email anything you want to keep to yourself - et voila - a back up copy! GLGL getting sorted, apple are usually very good. Title: Re: Ippy help please. Post by: tikay on February 07, 2013, 01:34:02 PM Thanks Guy. I just have a few photos, nothing else.
Will I need a googlemail account for the e-Mail? I currently have my Yahoo Account, which I've had for what seems like 15 or 20 years, & my Company (Outlook) Account, but I don't use that on the ippy. Title: Re: Ippy help please. Try and save the pics if you want to by navigating the ippy via windows explorer. Obv the ippy needs to be connected to the pc to do this. When and if you have accomplished this you can then proceed to restore your ippy as a new ippy. Again this is assuming that you're happy to restore it as new. Title: Re: Ippy help please. Post by: DMorgan on February 08, 2013, 03:48:43 PM Tony, when all this is over you should definitely plug your iPad into a PC at least once every few months so that you don't get too far behind on software updates.
If you're only updating by one or a few versions then its as easy as plugging it in and you can download and install the update in a single click. Jumping from years old software to the most recent version can be a minefield, especailly when one of the updates along the way has changed the way that the software updates are delivered! Yes, your Google Drive and gmail accounts are one and the same. The same account you 'log in' to your phone with when you set it up. The same one you use to download any apps, syncs your contacts, etc. Title: Re: Ippy help please. When I open google Drive & click "Gmail" it says...... Add Gmail to your Google Account NameFirst name First Last name Last Choose your Gmail address @gmail.com Mobile phone Your current email address By completing this form, you're upgrading to Gmail, email from Google. Gmail works on any device, blocks spam, and much more. You'll be able to sign in using your new Gmail address, which will become the primary email address associated with this account. We'll send account updates, invitations, and other notifications to your Gmail address. (XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX).com will become an alternate email address on this account, and you'll still be able to sign in with it. If you prefer, you can create a new Google Account with email, and leave this one as-is.. I'd rather not have another e-Mail account, in truth. I have two already (my personal Yahoo one, & a work one), so do I now have to start & use another? To be fair, the Yahoo e-Mail is absolutely crap, but I've had it for so long, & I CBA to send everyone a new Addy. How are we supposed to keep track of all these Accounts? Title: Re: Ippy help please. Post by: kinboshi on February 12, 2013, 03:05:09 PM You don't need to keep track of multiple accounts. You can use one and have the others forward to it.
Gmail integrates nicely into the android phones (which it should, obviously), and you can also make it more secure than your yahoo account. Next time you're at DTD I'll take you through the benefits of using it when you have an android phone already. Title: Re: Ippy help please.
