Title: Microsoft excel help Post by: outragous76 on March 07, 2013, 04:38:43 PM Can you customise the "auto move" of the cursor/cell selector to jump in a non uniform manner - ie not just l/r u/d?
Title: Re: Microsoft excel help Post by: doubleup on March 07, 2013, 04:40:43 PM you can copy and paste the cell contents if thats what you want?
Title: Re: Microsoft excel help Post by: outragous76 on March 07, 2013, 04:44:05 PM no, I am going to be typing in numbers, but rather than the cell selector just go down to the next box, or sideways to the next box, i want it to move in a specific order when i hit enter
Title: Re: Microsoft excel help Post by: doubleup on March 07, 2013, 04:50:38 PM you can just type in a number then click on the next cell you want to type in - you don't ned to press enter. Don't understand what the prob is.

Don't understand what the prob is. he means you enter data in a column, type info press enter, it moves down one in the column. he wants to have it go where he wants. if it doesn't change each time or use a formula, then it should auto do it as you manually select the first few I thought. so if you enter in column and then click to the cell 3 over and down one, in future it should move like that as you enter data I thought. maybe this is not applicable to post 03 excel though. I dunro. Title: Re: Microsoft excel help Post by: millidonk on March 07, 2013, 05:08:42 PM I know how to change it from down to up, right and left etc. (Options, advanced, after pressing enter, move selection - Choose dropdown)
But what do you mean in a non uniform manner? You want it just go anywhere randomly? Why? This I do not know how to do. Title: Re: Microsoft excel help Post by: doubleup on March 07, 2013, 05:22:45 PM he means you enter data in a column, type info press enter, it moves down one in the column. I know that. I'm saying he doesn't need to press enter he just types in the data in cell b5 or whatever then without pressing enter clicks on cell C6 and types his next bit. Title: Re: Microsoft excel help Post by: Jon MW on March 07, 2013, 05:59:03 PM If it's to do with data entry then you can a create a form in excel which will probably cover what you want, although I've never bothered so you'd need to use the help menu to see how.

A1 B1 A2 B2 A3 B3 so like a1 b1 a2 b2 a3 b3 Title: Re: Microsoft excel help Post by: EvilPie on March 07, 2013, 08:12:33 PM he means you enter data in a column, type info press enter, it moves down one in the column. Title: Re: Microsoft excel help Post by: Jon MW on March 07, 2013, 08:16:58 PM Okay forget about the form I'd put it in with
A1 tab B1 return A2 tab B2 return A3 tab B3 return etc - and now don't really see the problem, thought you meant something complicated Title: Re: Microsoft excel help Post by: EvilPie on March 07, 2013, 08:23:22 PM Okay forget about the form I'd put it in with A1 tab B1 return A2 tab B2 return A3 tab B3 return etc - and now don't really see the problem, thought you meant something complicated Yeah this. Either that or use your right and down cursors as they're closer together than tab and enter. Either that or use your right and down cursors as they're closer together than tab and enter. You press enter with your right little finger and tab with your left one. If you use the arrow keys the return will just put you on the line below in the same column, if you tab then return it puts you on the line below in the column that you started with. If Stu has a faster way of doing it than tab and return it would be interesting. Title: Re: Microsoft excel help Post by: kinboshi on March 08, 2013, 09:38:54 AM I use a program called 'Powerpro' on my PC. It does loads of stuff (clipboard extender, gives me additional menus to access programs, recent documents and folders with a single click, etc.), including the ability to create macros for keyboard entries or mouse movements or clicks. You can set these macros to work all the time, or only on specific windows or applications.
If there's something I need to do in Excel that is repetitive, I often create a macro in PowerPro and I can map this to a specific keyboard button (or combination of buttons) - so I can map the F1 button to send 'return, down, right, right right' (or whatever) to Excel. http://powerpro.cresadu.com/ (the website looks awful, but I've been using this application for about 15 years now and can't recommend it highly enough). Title: Re: Microsoft excel help Post by: doubleup on March 08, 2013, 01:04:20 PM You guys really don't know about typing in spreadsheets!!! it took me about a second to type data in the cells, in the order, by just clicking on the cells like I suggested. If you really think I didnt try key pad first .......................... |
