Title: Clothes refund?! Post by: aaron1867 on March 26, 2013, 12:28:37 PM I am sure someone can help me out here...
I have bought 3 tops from USC/Republic over about a 3 year period, but they all have the same fault. I have contacted the brand, they have told me to go the store and they have asked for receipt, I don't have one, these was tops I purchased months and years ago, but the faults are exactly the same on them. Do I have a leg to stand on? Title: Re: Clothes refund?! Post by: action man on March 26, 2013, 12:35:08 PM is the fault a slight change in colour?
Title: Re: Clothes refund?! Post by: aaron1867 on March 26, 2013, 12:37:08 PM is the fault a slight change in colour? Nope. It's holes in similar position of the top in all 3 tops. I wondered if it was the washer, but hasn't happened on anything else. Title: Re: Clothes refund?! Post by: kinboshi on March 26, 2013, 12:39:11 PM You'd have more of a leg to stand on if you'd bought trousers ;)
As for your rights, if the items aren't 'fit for purpose', then you'll be able to get a replacement/refund. If you've had something for a few months and it falls apart and you'd expect it to last 12 months at least, then it has proven not to be fit for purpose. Getting your money back on a top you bought three years ago will be a little more difficult I'd expect, especially if you've gone on to buy similar ones subsequently. Title: Re: Clothes refund?! I wondered if it was the washer, but hasn't happened on anything else. Had the same problem with a couple of Diesel and All Saints tops. Tiny little hole no more than 2mm square and no obvious reason why it's turned up. Very annoying because it's not like they're cheap. I thought it could be the washer but then why is it just one tiny hole in each top? Best thing you can do is throw them away and buy new ones. No need to thank me. Title: Re: Clothes refund?! Do I have a leg to stand on? You only need to produce a receipt to show proof of purchase, so I would recommend that you forget taking this up with USC as the brand have asked you to do Is the brand exclusive to USC/republic? In my opinion because of the time that has lapsed since you purchased the items this is a question of 'good will' and nothing legal really comes into it, as it's hard to proof that the clothing has a specific fault that's not caused by you and then to quantify the results of the fault over 'your wear' and what the brand deem to be 'everyday wear' Contact the company again and insist that you send the clothing into them for review I'm sure they'll replace the items for you. In the meantime don't buy anything of the same brand again.. Title: Re: Clothes refund?! Post by: aaron1867 on March 27, 2013, 01:49:59 PM I am sure someone can help me out here... The brand is G-Star, something of which I never wear at all these days, but I still wear the shirts under a jumper/hoody. I contacted G-Star and they said to contact the retail outlet. It's not ideal that I have had shirts for 3 years, but they are still showing the same fault. Title: Re: Clothes refund?! Post by: kinboshi on March 27, 2013, 01:57:33 PM How long would you expect a shirt to last, if worn regularly?
Title: Re: Clothes refund?! Post by: aaron1867 on March 27, 2013, 02:05:46 PM How long would you expect a shirt to last, if worn regularly? How long would you expect it to take until you found a shirt from brand without the same fault? Title: Re: Clothes refund?! Post by: kinboshi on March 27, 2013, 02:08:58 PM How long would you expect a shirt to last, if worn regularly? How long would you expect it to take until you found a shirt from brand without the same fault? That's a different question. If you had one with the fault and had bought it a month ago, then I'd expect an exchange/refund - as it's not of merchantable quality. But if a top develops a fault after three years, then I'd say it's possibly fulfilled its purpose. I bought some Philips earphones for running. The first set I had developed a fault in the jack (one ear stopped working basically), so I got them exchanged. I thought the fault might have been a freak thing, or something I did to them. Anyway, I've had the second set now for 5 months, and this one has developed the same fault. So it appears as though there could be a design fault with this product (or I've been unlucky). I wouldn't buy another set of these now would I? If I don't get them replaced I'll probably try another make instead. Title: Re: Clothes refund?! Post by: Marky147 on March 27, 2013, 02:12:08 PM So you noticed the fault on the new shirt, checked the other 2 and they have the same?
Title: Re: Clothes refund?! Post by: RED-DOG on March 27, 2013, 02:13:20 PM So you noticed the fault on the new shirt, checked the other 2 and they have the same? Objection! - Leading the witness. Title: Re: Clothes refund?! Post by: BangBang on March 27, 2013, 02:13:53 PM Write the company a letter, just seems odd to me, my guess would be that it's a fault caused by something you're doing (storage, seat belts, belt buckles, button ups, washing machine, beetles etc etc) but if you want to take it up with the company you have every right to.
