Title: So you think you know Football?
Post by: tikay on May 09, 2013, 10:56:51 AM
Assume Mr Moyes departs Everton for Man Utd, which looks likely.

Can you predict the Managerial merry-go-round that will follow?

For example, say, Martinez or Laudrup gets the Everton gig, who will replace either at Wigan or Swansea?

Or.......if Rafael Benetiz got the Everton gig, & Jose replaces him at Chelsea, but who gets the Real Madrid job?

So, for starters, (& assuming Moyes goes) who will Moyes replacement be, & who will replace him at his current club?

Even Tighty will struggle here. Betcha.

Moyes to Man U

Pereira to Everton

Mourinho to Chelsea

After staying up by a point, Newcastle sack Pardew and go for Laudrup to replace him

Laudrup leaves Swansea

Norwich sack Chris Hughton

Relegated, Wigan want to keep Martinez and Swansea think about bringing him back but eventually recruit Gus Poyet after Brighton are cruelly denied by Leicester in the Championship Play off final, on penalites. They promise their fans a contunuation of the attractive football played under Martinez, Rodgers and Laudrup

Norwich, swayed by a fan base bored by Hughton's prosaic managemenent style decide on Neil Lennon who decides the SPL is not the challenge the EPL is and leaves for East Anglia

The Stoke board are fearing the worst for 2013-14, and feel it is time to move on, pushing Tony Pulis into a director of football role. After someone who will fit in with the team and Pulis, they give Ian Holloway another crack at the top division

Pardew returns to Crystal Palace where he played for many years

At Brighton, forward thinking board go for Uwe Rosler to contunie Poyet's work

I think Martinez to Everton is a decent shout.

Who would replace him at Wigan is a tricky one although Dave Whelan seems to be a very shrewd judge of character.

Bugger, Tighty killed the thread.

I do think Rosler is destined for bigger things though.

I don't follow Premiership footy that closely, mainly as my team haven't been in it since 1999 (gulp!)

Why is Moyes rated so highly? Is his likely appointment down to SAF annoiting a successor or has Moyes got some factor I've totally missed?

With Mancini's exit, time to revise the scenarios.

Moyes went to Man U.

? went to Everton.

Mancini goes to.........?

?........goes to Man C.

Include possible changes at Leicester, too......

From a banter perspective, Jose to Man C would be nut-nut.

If Foxes are running a tighter ship next season then I'd think Pearson would be as safe a pair of hands as any?  Still think they'll give him the boot though.

this is very true

Much better than some glory appointment who has to cut the club's cloth and won't have the skills to do so

Our owner is a Thai duty free magnate who uses the club to push his products though, and is £80m deep into a so far failed attempt to be able to push those products to a Premiership audience so what might make sense (sensible manager, able to develop young players, live within FFP, transfers value for money) to me might not make sense to him (look Di Matteo, Look Mancini, look you are a big name )which was the mistake he made with Sven.

Title: Re: So you think you know Football?
Post by: luther101 on May 17, 2013, 02:24:21 PM
I think Pearson getting the boot would be madness.

To me, a very eloquent man who seems to know his football - with a side that posed more problems than most other sides to Watford's season, bar Chompy Utd.

I'd say they're a couple of signings away from being a 'shoe-in' for promotion next season - but, they really do need a striker who doesn't 'fade in & out' of form.

I read somewhere that Leicester's attempts on target on goal outstripped any other Championship side going into the Play Offs, at 597.

Pearson ain't doing too much wrong if his team are threatening the oppos goal 13 times a game - his strike force is letting the side down!

Ah that explains Wood's form going AWOL - let's hope that they haven't phuqqed him with all those hypodermic jabs    .....     many a good player has been ruined by serial pain killing injections.

I was really referring to Nugent - he really does have some long barren spells, that lad.

I'd fear a bit for Stoke without Pulis, a bit like Charlton without Curbishley

Did you know that in the 190 Premier League games Stoke have played they have only had greater than 50% possession in 13 of them?

you do now.

it is kind of hard to imagine them without him

however it looks like the squad has had enough of his methods this season for sure at least for part of it

and when you look he has not half spent a lot of money for a middling side and they have a very high wage bill

Title: Re: So you think you know Football?

Stoke in the Premier League under Pulis; 12th, 11th, 13th, 14th, 13th with points totals of 45, 47, 46, 45, 42

Will be interesting to see if they go for more of a footballing manager and try to kick on from those totals and see if the squad can be reshaped without it all back-firing

Bit like Allardyce's sides and style of play, Pulis has done enough to keep them up every year albeit with quite an old expensive squad

this tweet was interesting (to me anyway)

Last 5 seasons transfer spend: Stoke: £80m spent; Arsenal: £37m profit; Newcastle: £25m profit; Everton: £12.5m profit; Spurs: £7.5m spent.

and then

Stoke may play lower league football but they're not a lower league club. Just Man City, Liverpool and Chelsea have bigger net spend.

"Stoke may play lower league football but they're not a lower league club. Just Man City, Liverpool and Chelsea have bigger net spend."

You need to add in wages though as well surely.  I'm sure Stoke's won't be small, but I imagine Spurs would have spent more net on transfer and wages (for example)

that's fine though, it's pretty well accepted that having the largest wage bill will make some contribution to league position, but net spend on transfers makes almost no difference.
