Title: Making a kids dream come true..
Post by: suzanne on April 07, 2014, 06:52:55 AM
I feel a bit desperate posting this on here but I dont know what else to do.

My daughter is 16 yrs old and has been a HUGE WWE fan since she was tiny as her big brother was a fan of wrestling so she grew up watching it.

She is autistic and fanatic about Wade Barrett. I have tried so hard in the past to make her dreams come true. I bought front row seats at a ridiculous price last year but he walked past her and she cried for weeks :(  We have stood outside hotels in the rain for hours and I am just too bloody old to be doing that year after year.

There is an auction for charity with the winner meeting her idol

https://www.charitybuzz.com/catalog_items/491123

I cant afford to bid as high as its likely to go and it breaks my heart that I cant do this for her.

I am not asking for charity, I have satted into a UKIPT seat..I wish I could sell it but thats not an option so I am up for any suggestions to make this happen for my girl?

Suzanne there is a very small chance I might be able to help you here.

When I worked one of those things known as a job in media, one of my clients was WWE. I went about 5 times with them to WWE shows and some of my colleagues went and met people like Big show etc. It's been a long while since I've left but I still keep in touch with a few colleagues and I'll see if there is anything I can do to at least get an email to our client and see if they can somehow set this up. Long shot but there's a chance.

Suzanne, much like Greeky I have a long shot.

My Wife's younger brother was lost to cancer a few years ago and he had been granted a "make a wish" and that was to attend Wrestlemania.  Sadly he never made the date but some months later Vince Mac and the WWE "machine" contacted the family and paid for the older brother to go to Chicago to watch a show etc - I have to say they were fantastic at every point of contact.

I still have various contact details for people at WWE, happy to send some "fishing" emails if you want.  PM me if interested and I will get some details from you.

Suzanne I know absolute nothing about WWE, but like the boys say, its a good idea to try and get hold of a contact in his management/PR company.
I've done this a few times in the past with the record/film industry for various reasons and had some good outcomes.

Good luck!

Any idea how much the auction will go for ?

Will throw $500 in. You could sell %s to the ukipt at a really high markup- if the auction sells for $2500- only need to sell 50% of ukipt at cost of $50 per %. Obviously it's a high markup but I like idea of making kids dreams come true so will start ball rolling with $500 towards it, irrelevant of whether I have a % in ukipt or not.

Let me know

ya good justification for markup. IN for bowl amount due to having not much money. but good causes ftw.

This a a great idea.  I did a similar thing for the hospice where my dad was, sold at 2.0 and have people option to donate more - people very generous.  Great think with this is the auction is for charity anyway so it's win win if you get the right bid in. My thread is in staking - I only sold 30% from memory and made 2k for hospice.

Sorry about the delay in my reply guys.

The bidding didnt go well. It was at $1050 up to the last minute so I hovered hoping to steal it but as soon as I put a bid in (it went up by $250 each time) to $1400 it added 10 minutes to the auction  :'( I was outbid at each attempt and the guy with the deeper pockets got it for $2550. I just couldnt afford to pay that much nevermind any more. My daughter as you can imagine was very upset.

Thanks for all the offers of help, it really is appreciated.

I have tried tweeting him but he just doesnt answer. I have sent messages to a "friend" of his but she hasnt answered either. I just dont know what else to do.

Suzanne.

Please try to see this post in the spirit it is intended. If I'm wrong, I apologise in advance. You know my intentions are good

Sometimes, it's better to let your kids know that there are some things they can't have, no matter how much they want them.

Continually trying to meet Wade Barrett seems to lead to a string of dashed hopes and disappointments. Hearing that she is not going to meet him is just one disappointment and then it's over, plus you can spend the money you're wasting on something that will soften the blow.

I don't understand autism very well and I don't know if her illness will allow her to understand this concept, but if it will, that's great, it will be a fantastic lesson for her. If it won't, then there is no point in doing it anyway because a 5 minute meeting at an exorbitant cost will only lead to the next 'impossible' want.

I was going to post something similar but im not very good with words and didnt want it to come across wrong.

I know someone who is pretty very famous and get told regularly it will make all there dreams come true if they met the person and there life is not complete without meeting them and its very hard to let that person down. But the reality is the "chase" is probably better than actually meeting them a quick minute or two and it will be over so don't over stretch yourself to achieve this.

I hope you do find a way to make this happen but its also not the end of the world if it doesent.

Good luck

You have only said exactly what my older son keeps telling me Tom. If and when she ever meets him....what next as it wont stop there and i know you are both right but she wants this so badly.

I have tried explaining that its not easy meeting famous people but the problem I have here is that she is friends with "fellow fans" who HAVE met him so her logic is if they can, then why cant she. One young french lady in particular will post pictures up on facebook regularly and always seems to know which hotel he is staying in. Unfortunately she is reluctant to share any of this info. I do suspect she may be a little more than just a fan which is how she knows so much ;)

Some autistic kids will pick on a subject and it will literally become an obsession and Wade is hers. I had hoped over the years it might fade away but that hasnt happened. Her last year at school she had to do a school project on a subject of her choice and this is what she did  http://blogs.fossewayschool.com/2013/05/wade-barrett-possibly-the-best-wwe-wrestler-in-the-world/about-wwe-superstar-wade-barrett-2/  Both her teacher and I were gobsmacked as we didnt think she even had it in her to produce anything  of this standard. She also managed to get herself blocked from Wades twitter account while writing this as she asked him what his parents names were (tough times)  ::)

To give you some idea on her way of thinking. Last year we went to see the much awaited Dead Man Down film in which he had a small part. She was very excited and we were there for the first showing with best seats in the house (wasnt hard as there was only 6 of us in there). She kept letting out these little squeals every time he came on screen so I was quite glad it was empty. He had a part playing a bodyguard so it didnt take me long to realise he was probably going to end up dead..ooops. I kept saying to her you know this is pretend and not real...yes mum I know she said. Wellllllll not only did they kill him off but they BLEW HIM UP!!! She let out this enormous scream, staff came running in wondering what was going on and she was sitting there crying in hysterics. OMG it was awful.

Now try telling a kid like that, that she cant meet her idol. Trust me ive tried.

Just wanted to say a HUGE thank you for the very kind offers of a staking in the UKIPT to help.

I did seriously think about it and didnt know what to do to be honest.

My conscience got the better of me in the end. Realistally I have next to no chance of cashing in this so it would have been wrong of me to take anyones money. I am expecting to get chewed up and spat out but I will enjoy the experience nevertheless :)

IMDB has contact info for Pro members which you can get a free trial for.   I'm not sure what it shows you as I've never tried it but could be worth a look if you have 5 mins spare, it may give you his management company if you still want it.

This looks promising  ;cheerleader; ;cheerleader; ;cheerleader;

WWE Superstar, Bad News Barrett and Diva, Paige will be signing a selection of new WWE DVD titles* at our HMV store in Cardiff on Sunday 18th May at 1:00pm.

Entry to the signing is strictly ticketed. Details on how to acquire a ticket will be released soon.

I hope the tickets dont become available on Friday, Saturday or Sunday as I am supposed to be at DTD but I will just have to cancel if that happens as this is more important.

This is probably the best chance we will have to make this happen...so fingers crossed x

Possibly but its unlikely to be Wade if there is a meet and greet in Notts. Cardiff is perfect for me really as I am only an hour away on the train. I am trying to work out on a plan to cover all possibilities as I really dont want to miss UKIPT as its the first time I will be playing and am very excited about it. Just need to wait for the announcement and take it from there.

Do you live in Cardiff Suzanne?

If so, go in to HMV this week imo - ask to speak to the manager, explain the situation and even offer him/her 50 quid if they can make it happen etc.

I live in Bath Cos which is about an hour away on the train.

I have spoken to the manager on the phone and he said he doesnt actually know whats happening as they dont have the tickets. He doesnt think he will have any say in what happens either as it is all being dealt with by WWE. The only thing they have said so far is that he will not be signing any memorabilia, only DVDs which are bought from the shop  ::)

A quick dash to Cardiff and mission accomplished :D
