Title: TV Streaming Box
Post by: Woodsey on August 27, 2014, 05:17:02 PM
I'm reliably informed that its possible it to basically watch just about any TV channel in the world free of charge with one of these boxes, but you need to know how to install the apps for each channel. Any one got one or know how to install the channels to get it working? And is it easy?

And is it legal?

And by legal, I mean, can you get away with it mostly?

I'm getting something like that when I sort a TV out for my office, but these have everything done for you

Couple guys I know have one of these, and they say they're the business, as long as you have good broadband.

The latest quad core and fastest android tv box
This is the best you will find anywhere
True 1080p - Most boxes are not
This is the only box that comes fully loaded when you receive it
No having to use a wizard to install addons after you receive it
Or when you factory reset it as ours restores everything including the addons

That's from the advert, so it looks like you just have to plug it into your TV.

By the looks of that ad, the forums and stuff should be able to clear up any problems that crop up, and the lads I know with them love the things.

I'm still a way off needing mine, because our living room needs sorting before I can pinch the TV out of that, and replace it with a new one.

I have one in my apartment  in China ( obviously cheaper as thats where they are made) and thouroughly recommend them.
I have the previous model #7  and I love it. If it comes fully loaded thats great but there is  more apps to add which is straight forward to do through Google Play or the internet. I recommend you get a wireless mouse as the remote control that comes with it is a pain to navigate. It has a built in keyboard but you may also want to purchase a wireless one too.
Make sure it comes with a VPN so you can access all the channels from around the world or you can add one.  Holla is the VPN app I use which works fine . The only downfall of the box is there are so many things to watch you don't know where to start lol

Would this be in addition or instead of having sky.

Ii mostly only use sky for sports everything else we already download and watch by the series.

Very tempted by this and by saving on Sky buying fibre broadband.   You guys think that would be best plan?

I would not bother with Sky if you get one of the Android boxes to be honest. You can download an App called Mobdro  which you can view all sports channels from around the world including all Sky Sports channels. All you need is a good internet service as you will be streaming the channels. Most of the Movie/Tv Show Apps have a download feature on too is you dont like to stream the shows.

A good thing about these boxes is you can take them anywhere if you travel. They are so compact, all you need is  a TV and internet connection. They are so simple to set up , its just a HDMI cable from the box to the TV, connect to the internet and away you go.

Had this box for a couple of days now and can confirm it is the bollocks even though I still don't understand everything, don't think there is anything I want to watch that I can't now. The only caveat being you probs need Internet speed of 10mgs+ for streaming, more for HD. Downloading is possible also for non live streams.

If you're just using the computer to watch things (and are happy doing that) you can download XMBC for free and watch all the sport you like (and other stuff)

True I forgot about that. I've been using the modbro app for the streams so far. However there are loads of streams on XMBC also, in fact there were a couple of really good ones but my Internet isn't fast enough for them to stream smoothly. If it was the picture would be excellent.

Can you use Modbro on your Iphone/Ipad. or is there an alternative?

Pretty sure it's only android mate, not sure about an alternative.

As Graham said you can download XMBC to your computer, but it's not easy adding all the various channels, you need to know what you are doing. This box is all set up and ready to go with a ton of things loaded up already.

I've just seen this http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00KQEJBSW/  The Amazon Fire box (apologies if that's a referral code, I just grabbed it off HotUkDeals).  You can apparently install XMBC on the fire box, perhaps a cheaper alternative wanting a box.

So what sort of internet connections do people have who are using these boxes?  For example, would a 50meg connection be enough to watch a match in HD on a Sky Channel?

I'm guessing it's going to fall between having Sky/Cable HD telly and the crappy streams on the net you can use to watch live sport on your computer - or is it actually a genuine replacement for an HD Sky box?

Title: Re: TV Streaming Box
Post by: Graham C on September 04, 2014, 05:25:05 PM
It'll never be a long term solution, it's watching illegally broadcast streams at the end of the day.  Remember Eurovox?  That was great whilst it lasted too.  These things come and go.  One day the streams won't be easily accessible in the UK but you have to make the most of them whilst you can.

If ur getting 50 meg you could watch HD easily mate.

My Internet is probably mostly 6-10 I would say and I can watch all the normal non HD films, tv shows etc no problem. Live streams of channels are fine and watchable but not perfect. I suspect if my Internet was better the streams would be a lot better but until I try it I can't say for sure.

To be honest for a 100 quid I'm delighted with what I've got and it's better than sticking the computer in the back of the telly when I want to watch something on a big screen.

I get a max of 60meg, so pretty decent - although I might be moving soon, but fast broadband is a major consideration for me anyway.

For £100 can't really go wrong.  It'll be better than watching the dodgy football streams on wiziwig anyway.  Are all the boxes much of a muchness, or is there something to look for when choosing one?

Title: Re: TV Streaming Box
Post by: Woodsey on September 04, 2014, 10:42:47 PM
Ok so just done some tests to give you guys an idea. My Internet was pants on a few speed tests I did, basically running between 2 and 5 when I did it watching the various things below.

Just watched a game of thrones episode, you get 3 choices of resolution, low med high. I picked med which is normally a very good picture and normal TV standard I would say, it was a good as usual but maybe every few mins froze for 2 or 3 secs or so, I don't usually have this problem as my Internet mostly runs faster than this.

Sports streaming channels- perfectly watchable but a little bit 'pixely' if that makes sense, better than a lot of the sports links I've watched in the past.

Movie- normal res, great and no problem and totally smooth throughout, I had a choice of about 20 links I could have watched, 75% HD but I know my Internet is not fast enough for that so chose normal. It looked like I was just watching it on normal telly.

The real beauty of this box is they make it dead easy and install a bunch of apps and all the XMBC add ons, which are basically the links to the movies, shows, and streams which are not easy to do yourself. Trust me I did it with. XMBC myself a while back and it took me ages to install only icefilms which is one link to a tons of movies. I have at least 10 things like that already installed and a tons of apps to make life super easy.

Maybe I'll take some shots of the screen so you guys can see what is what.

I should be on commission from this guy FFS lol.

Should also add that the remote it comes with is not great. I'm using my own mouse to navigate and it's dead easy to use.

So let's go into the showbox app where all the films and TV shows are.

It shows all the fils and TV shows and you just click on what you want to watch, you can stream or download stuff in this app.

Just about everything you want is here.

You also have the XMBC player which is another way of doing the same thing.

If we click in movies we get this drop down menu

Then select new releases

Don't really know about the boxes themselves mate. All I know is there are some selling them with all the channels fully installed so you literally just need to turn it on and and you are good to go when it arrives, that will save you a lot of hassle.Other than that I don't know to be honest. Just another quick point on this one folks I done a speed check other day and it showed d/l speed of 16.4mbps but when downloading a movie my d/l speed is about 1.3mbps

Seems my original supplier has stopped doing them and it seems a bit of a minefield out there. Any one got a rec for a high end android box loaded with all the necessary stuff?

Not sure if mine is an android, but a mate of mine is in that game, and it's the best one he does.

Like a sky system, but you get every channel, including all PPV events, and with about 5000 films/tv boxsets that are constantly updated, too.

Think it's £30 a month, but will have to check, as I paid for a year in one hit when I was pissed up.

Mostly just need an android box that has Mobdro and showbox apps and Kodi would help too. Not willing to pay a subscription as there is no need. Just need a box powerful enough to deal with the streams and would rather be ahead of the curve and get a good enough one so it lasts for a couple of years or so...

Yeah I've tried doing that before but unfortunately I'm an IT donkey especially when it comes to Kodi and adding stuff, just couldn't suss it despite following various instructions online, hence why the fully loaded version is preferable.

Get an Amazon Firestick, have someone put Kodi on it. Whole thing costs 40 - 60 quid. If u down Bristol way anytime soon I have a supplier who also does customer support

Get an Amazon Firestick, have someone put Kodi on it. Whole thing costs 40 - 60 quid. If u down Bristol way anytime soon I have a supplier who also does customer support

He's saying that there are people who will buy a fire stick, load it up and resell it e.g. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Gen-2-Amazon-Fire-TV-Stick-Alexa-Voice-Remote-Loaded-Kodi-16-1-Beast-Mobdro-XXX-/302136296909?hash=item4658ba05cd:g:X8QAAOSwx2dYGITU (not an endorsement, I just put up an example).

I own one of these, it seems fine but I haven't played with it that much.

Ok are the links you get set up on Kodi continuously refreshed so you can always find what you want?

Just asking because that's why I like Mobdro and showbox apps, I can always find what I want....

yes they update.  sometimes apps just go down or are blocked though.  Modbro sometimes changes version, but you can just go to their site and add the new version.

Basically if you can add an app to kodi, you will be able to get whatever you want.

Just got Kodi after my usual downloading place seems to have quit on me. It's come on a lot since I first tried it a couple of years back that's for sure.

Woodsey it's dead easy mate. I'm a donkey with these things as well but I found a decent youtube vid that got me all sorted in about an hour and now I seem to be able to get absolutely anything I want.

Give it a go. I wasn't happy about having to change but my usual system packed up too so I had no choice. This really does seem straight forward.

I have an m8 quad core box. Think it was about 35 quid 18 months ago. Said id get a cheap one to try it out and if i liked it id pay a bit more for a better one. But i still have that box now and does the job!

Best thing i ever did was wipe it completely clean of everything it came with. All I have downloaded on it is "exodus" which i use for tv and film, has 99% of everything and in cracking quality too. And i also have "s.a.l.t.s" stream all the sources which I'll try if for some reason exodus doesn't have it.

I also pay 26 pounds for 6 months for a sports subscription. I know you say you can get all the channels for free, but the sports subscription i pay for is incredibly efficient, you dont have to search for links that work, as they work perfectly. Things like skysports, bt sport etc they have 4 or 5 different links for each channel including HD and SD options. All the 3 oclock kick offs work flawlessly. Boxing, WWE ppv absolutly perfect. And they have pretty much every sport channel in the world i can think off. They also have a facebook support group so if your struggling with anything they can help you, and if you see there is a channel down you can tell them and they sort it out. I've had about 6 or 7 friends sign up too and no complaints.

It's the best 26 quid i spend.

If anyone wants the name, PM me and I'll point you in the correct direction. Obv not sure if blonde would want me naming it!!

Pretty much what I did before mate, now I'm confident with them I just want a more powerful one.

A know a couple of people that have the minix brand and they tell me they are excellent, so I'm going for one of those....

Beware the Minix one I bought was blank without any of the fully loaded stuff on it so you'll have to do that yourself, which doesn't sound like what you want.

Nice of them to get Keith Lemon to do the voiceover on their video.

Looks like I went and bought a sky now tv box when I was pissed Saturday night, what a clown. I remember browsing them when looking at all this but have no recollection of actually buying one, just seen the debit on my card now  ;grr;
