I know Sky have to sell the Henry factor but its tilting me that they are claiming he was the best to play in the premier league.  He wasn't even the best Arsenal player in EPL over the years.

I'd put Bergkamp ahead of Henry at Arsenal.  Perhaps even RVP on basis they haven't replaced him, when Henry went I don't think he was as big a loss.

Drogba, Cantona, Van Nistelrooy, Ronaldo, and Shearer  all get there ahead of him in terms of what they brough to their clubs imo.

Could make a case for different reasons for Shearer, Bale, Ronaldo, Weah, Schmeichel, Cantona and even, yes, Giggs.

But I'd put Zola a short head above Henry.

Henry and Bergkamp were special.

I remember seeing Giggs at Loftus Road before the QPR decline set in about 22 years ago.

He made one pass while rampaging at top speed at the home defence which instantaneously took 3 defenders out of play.

I doubt anyone in the stands even saw the possibility of the pass, let alone could have seen while running flat out.

I remember leaving the ground and thinking "bloody hell that kid is good"

Not a lot wrong with claiming Henry was the best. He wouldn't be my personal choice but it's splitting hairs. Incredible player.

Few tough decisions in there, and pretty sure you could argue the case but Gerrard at his peak better than Lamps.  

Completely forgot about Scholes who was a tremendous player and also better than Lampard. 

Can't be having Becks in over Ronaldo, just not happening. Is Becks even in the top 5/10/100 for RM?

For that one season it's very hard for somebody to have been more effective than bale he turned into a beast overnigt and was regularly scoring 25+ Yard goals.

I'm not sure why over the last few years Bexkhams reputation declined. He was way more than just a set pieces man.

He worked tirelessly. He scored many fantastic goals, West Ham chip, Tottenham whip that were totally underrated because people knew he had good technique. He didn't have a trick to go past somebody, but he didn't need it he was the best crosser he leagues seen and rightfully holds the place as best rm imo.

Sticking purely to 4-4-2 it's definitely incredibly hard to pick a team, if you pick players on effectiveness over short sample sizes then bale and ronaldo would admittedly go on ahead of Beckham and Giggs.

Strikers wise it's just so hard, Shearer, Henry,  Bergkamp, Drogba, Andy Cole, Zola all worthy in different ways

to my mind 9 pick themselves - only one of the centre backs and left back are really up for debate

the two best teams we've had are United 1998-2005 and Arsenal invincibles. of the above only Shearer and terry are not from those two teams

Scholes > Gerard interests me.

I know the game has changed in the past 29 years and I detest Ashley Cole as much as you do but he really was an amazing left back. He actually could take a good penalty too! But admittedly not as good as Irvin.

It's hard to judge players even from a 20 year span as irwin/neville would struggle these days but I guess it's all relative.

Amazed Irwin was not mentioned until Tighty did

He would be fine today, could get up and down all day attacking threat and good defensively

This would be very close to my team with one or maybe two changes.

Giggs - should be in every team in this thread
Henry - probably the best all round forward
Shearer - see comments re Terry, but that goalscoring record is amazing for someone with so few medals

Lol! The best player hasn't even been mentioned yet! The best player to grace the Premier League was Paul Gascoigne. And if it wasn't for Dennis Bergkamp it wouldn't even be remotely close!

Gascoigne's best was a long way behind him when he made his PL debut
