Title: Clocks going forward Post by: The Camel on March 29, 2015, 09:50:36 AM I think most everyone changes the time on their watch and the main clocks in their house..
But when the clocks change do you alter the time on the clocks in your car and on the cooker? Title: Re: Clocks going forward Post by: booder on March 29, 2015, 10:00:13 AM Car - yes , cooker - no.
Title: Re: Clocks going forward Post by: tikay on March 29, 2015, 10:01:15 AM I don't change any of them. Title: Re: Clocks going forward Post by: The Camel on March 29, 2015, 10:10:25 AM I don't change any of them. Jeeves does it for you obv. Title: Re: Clocks going forward Post by: Doobs on March 29, 2015, 10:57:14 AM I change them all eventually, but some slower than others. I have only just changed the date on my watch to reflect the fact February doesn't have 31 days.

Didn't change the one on my bike last time because I couldn't work out how to do it, it's sorted itself out now anyway ;whistle;
Title: Re: Clocks going forward Post by: DMorgan on March 29, 2015, 01:36:46 PM They still have cookers that don't change themselves? :D
In third year at uni in a house of six 21 year olds we managed to angle the landlord for a new oven. I think the seals were going but the major win was that we dodged having to clean it. We couldn't get the new oven working between us, ate soup and takeaways for a month before the landlord got someone out to have a look at it. Turns out you need to set the clock before it'll turn on. Title: Re: Clocks going forward Post by: kinboshi on March 29, 2015, 07:04:43 PM When you say oven, you mean the kettle for your Pot Noodles?
Title: Re: Clocks going forward Post by: Junior Senior on March 29, 2015, 09:43:42 PM Yes. Why wouldn't you?
Title: Re: Clocks going forward Post by: tikay on March 30, 2015, 08:03:45 AM Yes. Why wouldn't you? I don't think many of us need a watch or clock to tell us the exact time of day, our body clocks can generally sense it to within an hour. We DO need the minute hand though, for appointments, or knowing when a TV programme, football match, train is due, poker tourney or whatever is due to start. The correct time is all around us, & automatically corrected for BST, on the TV set, 'phones, computers, websites, everything. It's hard NOT to know the time. Title: Re: Clocks going forward Post by: Tal on March 30, 2015, 08:16:12 AM Every clock. Great fun to be had, twice a year.
Title: Re: Clocks going forward Post by: DMorgan on March 30, 2015, 11:58:56 AM When you say oven, you mean the kettle for your Pot Noodles? Never had a pot noodle, keeping it classy (http://www.poundland.co.uk/wordpress/poundland/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/09959-Batchelors-Pasta-N-Sau1.jpg) Title: Re: Clocks going forward Post by: Junior Senior on March 30, 2015, 09:08:18 PM A clock is pointless unless it tells the correct time. May as well set it correctly.
Title: Re: Clocks going forward Post by: tikay on March 30, 2015, 09:18:46 PM A clock is pointless unless it tells the correct time. May as well set it correctly. Not at all, we only need to know the minutes, we don't need a timepiece to know the hour. It is July, your 3 year old is shouting in your ear "it is morning daddy", do I look at the minute or hour hand before deciding whether to tell her to go back to bed? FWIW I have no oven by my bed and the car is parked outside. Title: Re: Clocks going forward Post by: Tal on March 30, 2015, 09:52:45 PM A clock is pointless unless it tells the correct time. May as well set it correctly. Not at all, we only need to know the minutes, we don't need a timepiece to know the hour. I had a watch repaired last year. When I went back to collect it, following its return from the factory in Switzerland (I'm assured...Could have been a workhouse in Small Heath for all I know), I was given a piece of card which declared that the time was correct to one one-hundred-thousandth of a second. A few weeks later, the clocks went forward and I had to change it manually. Suppose I could have sent it back to Switzerland. That would have been the Posh EV play. I'm surprised you aren't a timepiece man, tikay. I would have had you as someone who would while away many a happy day at the Shepherd Gate (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/6/61/Greenwich_clock_1-manipulated.jpg) Title: Re: Clocks going forward Post by: The Camel on March 30, 2015, 10:11:48 PM A clock is pointless unless it tells the correct time. Where is your requisite OCD? Title: Re: Clocks going forward Post by: Tal on March 30, 2015, 10:19:36 PM A clock is pointless unless it tells the correct time. May as well set it correctly. Where is your requisite OCD? I could have kept it in a drawer for six months til the clocks went back, but I would have only wanted to pay half the price for it. If you wear a watch that's an hour wrong, you'll have a hard time convincing people it's better that it's virtually perfectly accurate...an hour ago. I feel like writing to the Esquire Agony Aunt, as I know AA Gill would know what to do. Not sure about this new one at GQ, mind. Or move to Iceland, where they're on GMT but don't follow daylight saving in the summer. Title: Re: Clocks going forward Post by: MintTrav on March 31, 2015, 04:17:50 AM Why does anyone wear a watch nowadays? Or have a clock in their house? As mentioned above, the time is everywhere. It's on my computer at work, my computer at home, plus numerous appliances. When I'm out, it's on my phone and in the car, plus available many other ways on the one day I might not have my phone with me and need to know the time.
Watches are redundant. Title: Re: Clocks going forward Post by: Tal on March 31, 2015, 07:49:37 AM Why does anyone wear a watch nowadays? Or have a clock in their house? If I had an analyst he would say it was caused by a childhood spent reading out of date copies of National Geographic while being totally boracic. Anyway, I spent a lifetime trying to find the perfect watch, which for me means accurate, maintenance free and virtually indestructible. I found it, bought it and wore it for the first time on 09/11/2001. Back then it cost < £300 and is not much more now. Save for a few seconds here and there, it's been on my wrist 24/7 ever since. There's a watch I want to get, and it's a Citizen. Unfortunately, the one I want is only available as A Japanese domestic model. Nice watch though. http://citizen.jp/promaster/lineup/sky/jy8025-59e.html There shouldn't be any problems with it, but if something did go wrong it'd be a pain in the arse to get it sorted under the warranty. Was a pretty decent looking watch, but I've never worn it, and can't even remember where I put it :D |
